I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

All the employees at the Elaine Center showed great care in helping my Mom get better and home. Michael/Mary/Tina/Sammy all treated her with kindness and respect as if she were a family friend to them. The facilities were safe. clean and well organized.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother and father have both been in the Leeds Unit (memory care) for nearly a year and I have nothing but good things to say about the staff and the level of care. It is the hardest thing my siblings and I have ever done, to put them into care. And on top of it all, they have been there during the Covid-19 pandemic, which means that they are there during a time of lockdown, when the staff are being asked to rise to a challenge never seen before. For a period of some weeks there were Covid cases in the building. The team rose to the occasion with incredible heroism. The director was on a Zoom meeting with friends and family every day, giving us updates, letting us ask as many questions as we needed, answering us with clarity, honesty and compassion. Meanwhile, my Mom, who does not have dementia but chooses to live with my Dad on the ward, reported back on the deeply compassionate care they were receiving from the staff. My Mom's health is very shaky and frail. Before she went to Elaine she was in and out of the ER all the time. She has not had a bad incident since she's been there. My Dad, whose dementia is now very bad, is as happy as I think he could be under the circumstances -- he loves the food! Friends and family teamed up to donate money to the staff given how superhuman they have been during this crisis. This is a great team, working under extraordinary circumstances -- Thank you, Elaine.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Mom has been a resident of the Leeds Unit in Hadley, MA. She has dementia and loss of some mobility after her stroke in May of 2019. From the beginning of her stay, the Staff in the Leeds Unit has been outstanding and they are the most significant asset for the residents and the facility. We are all aware of the low rates that the State pays for the care of residents there, as compared to much higher private rates they charge for the actual cost of care. Having been on both sides of this issue of cost, I have a more practical understanding as to the financial dilemma the long term care companies face. The goal is to balance the best possible care for residents with the limited resources paid by the state. In the 13 months of my mother's care, she has had healthy food choices, clean clothes and bed linens at all times. She is bathed and cared for daily. Her room and bathroom are clean. The staff accomodates her special needs as best they can, with the needs of other residents. They bring her Ipad to her so she can communicate with us during the lockdown and regularly give her headphones so she can listen to music. I am grateful she is cared for at Elaine Health in Hadley.

I am/was a resident of this facility

i went to Elaine Center of Hadley rehab care for a short stay after having a total hip replacement being transferred from Greenfield Franklin Medical Center. I am a nurse. I noted the first thing, people were kind, sweet, went out of the way, and did everything they could for me. They had the sweetest smiles, and helped in every way possible. I was not strong, but with the help of the Rehabilitation, and Occupational therapy i was able to regain strength. I also noticed one thing which is very important to me, no one but no one spoke in a different language in the halls . The bells were answered quickly as well. I would go again, if needed to. Thank you to all that helped me recover from my hip surgery... L. G.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I write on behalf of my father who has dementia and spent less than 24 hours at Elaine Center. My mother was informed when she went to visit him that he was not welcome and had be to moved. This evening as I write he is asleep in his chair at home. My father was referred to Elaine Center by Cooley Dickinson Hospital. He was in recovery there with a 24 hour nurse due to the dementia. My father was transferred and spent the night there with the catheter he has in place. This morning, he awoke frightened and disoriented. 5 nurses came into deal with him and this placed him in a flight or fight mode. The family was called to come calm him down. My sister did go over and found him quietly in the common room. My mother arrived mid-morning to find him disoriented but quiet and visited for over an hour. At the end of her visit, a case worker informed my mother that my father was not welcome there and that they were going to transfer him a geriatric psychiatric unit an hour away. They did not ask her or suggest to her but informed her that this was going to happen. She left Elaine Center and called her children to inform them and to let us all know that she did not want her husband of 60 years taken away. My mother is battling cancer and frail. She asked that I go over there and ask them not to move him which I did. I was told that he was not a good match and that he needed to go elsewhere and that we would have to take care of his catheter. I asked if he could stay 3 hours while I completed my day of work and they agreed. I returned to work and my sisters can to “rescue” my dad. They had to fight to have the prepaid two week resbit charge returned and were informed that I lied to them and that they never said Dad wasn’t welcome. My sisters brought Dad home. He walked out under his own power and was not a problem. While at home, we called his primary care doctor to find out what to do next, we don’t know how to care for a catheter or his bed sores. Much to our shock we found out that Elaine Center took it upon themselves to contact the Visiting Nurses and tell them to stay away from our dad and that they had informed him that they were going to have my dad committed early in the morning rather than talk to the family. If my mom had not gone to visit him when she did he would have been gone never to be seen because Elaine Center does not have the trained staff to deal with a known dementia patient???? What right to they have to do this to a person who was in their care less than 12 hours. How can a nursing facility tell a patient to leave when he has a catheter in place and needs help? What kind of caring is that? My dad’s experience was humiliating, uncaring, and inhumane. I would never recommend Elaine Center to any person.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have never met such devoted and caring staff. I was treated with such respect and dignity. I was going through a very difficult time physically and emotionally and I am thankful that I was at the Elaine Center during that time. I would recommend this place very highly.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I just came from visiting a friend at this place. The nurses were all sitting around eating (7 pm). They sent me to the room knowing that my friend had just wet the bed. I walked in and there was a huge puddle of urine on the floor. My buddy, a Viet Nam veteran, asked me to get the nurse, who told me she was aware of the situation (and sent me in there anyway!). An LPN finally came and cleaned up the mess. I was with my husband and 13 year old son. It was awful seeing our friend so helpless, and outrageous that I could have slipped and been hurt myself. The nurse claimed my friend had been incontinent but he said he just couldn't get out of the bed without help, and couldn't find the bedpan. When we returned to the room the nurse instructed us to wear masks because of friend's white blood cell count. It's outrageous that she didn't tell us that the first time we entered the room! AVOID THIS DEPRESSING PLACE!
