I am a friend or relative of a resident

My aunt moved to EPOCH Boylston Place at Chestnut Hill and she was very happy there. The facility was high-end. The rooms were quite spacious even the studios. The dining room was open from 7 am to 7:30 pm everyday. There was a nurse on duty 24/7. They had physical therapist and occupational therapist that could come to the room and helped out if the doctor ordered it. They had computer lessons for the residents, which attracted my aunt. There was a private car service seven days a week, so she did not have to worry about getting public transportation or getting rides to her doctors or church service. I would recommend this place to others.

I visited this facility

We visited Boylston Place at Chestnut Hill for my dad. It was a very nice facility. It seemed really great. Their staff also was very nice. It just wasn't so much assisted living and it was more like a retirement community. There was not as much assistance offered there. We just thought that with my dad's particular needs, he was going to need more assisted living.

Boylston Place offers luxury apartments for both independent living and assisted living appropriate residents. It's adjacent to Epoch of Chestnut Hill, a skilled nursing facility and shares a courtyard and some amenities. One of the advantages of being at Boylston Place is that residents are given priority at Epoch Skilled Nursing and Rehab. I've referred clients there and have visited a number of times, so I know it well. The facility initially served a mostly Jewish population, but now there is more diversity among the residents, and the programming is diverse and inclusive as well. It's located in the Brookline/Newton area in Chestnut Hill. It's within walking distance of shops and a movie theater, but it's right off a main road and a little distance from public transportation. Parking is an issue in the area generally, but they offer valet parking. Boylston Place was built about 15 years ago and has 48 units. It was intended to be a high-end, premiere facility, and it still is. It's exclusive, with comparable costs. Each unit is elegantly furnished, using high-end furnishings and materials and has a full galley kitchen. The staff works hard to cater to each resident. This is particularly evident in the dining service. They have a special sound loop that allows residents to change the setting on their hearing aids in the on-site movie theater, to hear the soundtrack without interference and limo service for doctor appointments, shopping, other errands or trips out of the facility. The staff has been very stable, with little turnover, and they're quite attentive. They have RN service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Many of the residents also have private attendants, with the expense paid by the individual resident, which makes it possible for them to age in place for a longer time. The food is excellent. It's restaurant-style, 4-star dining. They have both a seasonal menu and meals made to order, and are open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. They also have a high-end activities program that includes a fitness trainer five days a week to staff their fitness center.

EPOCH Senior Healthcare has excellent staff. Everyone is friendly and always smiling. The facility is immaculate. I always find my father clean and well cared for. They do a great job, from receptionist to floor nurses. I have been very impressed!

I would not recomend, this facility. Very uncaring unfriendly staff. Glad to get my mom out of there. But saw some things if your loved one is suffering from dementia I would watch them and if they say something believe them. Very sad the way they treat people. Would highly not recomend

My father has Alzheimer's and has been a resident at Epoch of Chestnut Hill for a little over a year. The nursing staff is great and the activities staff are amazing and very caring. Instead of having Dad wander around the secured unit all day they bring him down to the first floor for all his meals and most of the activities are on this floor, too. The entertainment is great and they even have a secured courtyard so we can bring him outside when it's nice. Great place for memory care!

I am a friend or relative of resident

My 90 year old mother has lived in Epoch of Chestnut Hill for 1 1/2 years.  They could not have been more welcoming when she moved in.  They have consistently been kind, warm and caring towards her.  She spends every morning and afternoon involved in activities with the 'life enrichment' staff.  These activities help to keep her mind active and keep her socializing with other residents. I usually have to schedule my visits to her around her schedule.  She does not want to miss  "her activities." The nurses on her floor have been wonderful.  The patience, care and knowledge they have provided for her has been outstanding.  Every person there is looked at as an individual and they work together to plan out the care for each resident.  They have been very responsive to her needs and I am so happy and appreciative that she is living there.

Wow, we could not get out loved out of there quick enough. The Dementia unit is a joke. Most (not all) of the aides are lazy. I witnessed them letting residents sit in his own waste for hours. I told the aide who said "oh yeah?" and stood outside the room even longer looking bored. They sit all the patients in the same room with no stimulation or interaction. The staff is not trained in Dementia care. The staff argues wtih patients or ignores them. Even the charge nurse had no Dementia nursing skills. You'd think with vistors around, they'd be on their best behavior so it makes me wonder what happens when nobody is around! Dont let the beautiful building fool you! The staff is uncaring and unskilled for Dementia!

Epoch is a skilled nursing facility that shares a number of amenities, including a courtyard, with Boylston Place, an independent living and assisted living facility that's adjacent to it. One floor of Epoch is dedicated to dementia care; another is used primarily for rehab. It's located in Chestnut Hill, MA, which is located in both Newton and Brookline, MA. Parking can be difficult, and it's a little distance from public transportation, but they do offer valet parking. The rooms are average in size and set up like a typical hospital room"“-though with nicer colors, furniture, and wall coverings. They're mostly semi-private and all have a private bathroom. One of the nice things about having Boylston Place adjacent to it is that the rehab. Staff can follow patients back to assisted living for outpatient or follow-up care. They also have programs for dementia patients off the nursing floor. Another program offered is near the nursing floor and is a comforting setting for end-stage dementia patients. It's a quiet space that's quite peaceful, with lowered lights. They play soft music, and make sure patients are hydrated and comfortable. There's a good ratio of caregivers to patients. The food is basic and rather institutional. The activities are geared to function level, with separate activities for separate groups, including bingo, films, chair exercise, flower arranging, and beading.

Best Facility for Rehab and Dementia Care

The Epoch Senior Health Care Center is a wonderful place because it is staffed with caring professionals who are always concerned about the safety and comfort of its residents. The nurses, care takers and service staff understand that every resident is someone's family member and loved one, and treat every resident with great respect and dignity. The facility is wonderfully designed to have everything a resident could want, including a mini-cinema that plays daily movies, and hosts bingo games. There is also a lovely gift shop and even a beauty salon. One of the great things about EPOCH is that there are no specific visiting hours. There is a receptionist until 7:30 pm (weekdays) but visitors are welcome any time, as residents are meant to feel at home rather than as guests. Dining rooms are available for families to rent for larger gatherings. These are just some of the many features this facility has to offer. Wonderful physical therapy programs for the residents, special unit for individuals with dementia, and great administrative assistance to answer all your questions. I highly recommend the Epoch Senior Healthcare if you're researching for a fitting facility with a difficult decision at hand.
