I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend is in John Scott House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She went in there for rehab and it was awful. No one gave her much time at all. She never got one shower. They were really rude. No one bothered to talk to her. She moved to their nursing facility and she just called me this morning crying that she's petrified. She's extremely unhappy. She's had things missing already. This is her third week, and she's had two showers. Someone left her on the toilet the other day and completely walked out, and she couldn't get off. You walk into the reception area and they're miserable. They say they're going to connect you to your loved one and I've been on the phone for over 20 minutes and then they get disconnected. I called once and somebody at the nursing station answered the phone. There was a little bit of static, so you couldn't hear very well. I said hello and the nurse yelled into the phone, "I don't have all day, I'm really busy. What do you want?" That's my experience. I don't have one good thing to say about it. The building is extremely old. It looks like it's from the 1960s. My friend has a couple of pictures up and she put them on the windowsill area and then a CNA yelled at her because there's no room to walk in there. There is a little bit of room and she keeps all her stuff in a bag because she doesn't have much room in there at all. She has it in a big shopping bag and she has to stick it underneath a chair. It's pretty on the outside though. They have bingo and some other activities. She's been to bingo a couple of times, and she said that the seating is so uncomfortable, it hurts her back, so she can't go anymore, and they won't put her in another seat. I've seen the food. I probably would not eat it myself, but she's a very simple woman and that's fine for her.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I recently broke my ankle and was sent to John Scott for rehab. I was a little concerned about a rehab/nursing home in general based on the horrible perceptions of such facilities. All my fears and concerns were almost immediately eliminated after only a few days at this facility. I found senior management to be highly visible, extremely approachable and sincerely caring. Head nurses were continuously consulted by staff and extremely concerned with resident comfort and safety. Duty nurses were prompt, professional and caring in the discharge of their duties and all aids were prompt, compassionate and pleasant when called upon. I would highly recommend this facility to all patients requiring such services

I am a friend or relative of a resident

This nursing home facility was a great fit for my grandmother. After she fell and broke her hip while walking around my aunt's home, she went to John Scott House after the hospital for rehabilitation. The staff was very welcoming and while the rooms were modest, the nurses treated my grandmother Priscilla fairly and humanely. It is important to note though that this facility has aged much like its residents: the furniture is old and the building smells constantly musty. It is also important to note that my grandmother had some esteem and depression issues. Thus, when she did not feel mentally capable to complete her rehab, she ended up staying at John Scott because she was immobile. The environment at John Scott actually served to cheer her up more than we had ever seen her, though, after a while. The initial shock of being put into a nursing home forced her lower than she had previously ever been, and while this was unavoidable, John Scott House has daily activities and occasionally even visiting kids that made her days there okay.
