I visited this facility

Sunrise of Pikesville had little apartments arranged in little neighborhoods. I thought that was a cute idea. They were very attentive to the people that they were working with. They were friendly and interested in helping the residents to become the best they could be. The rooms were not traditional in their shapes, which was kind of fun. You could make them your own. The way they had it decorated was just very cozy and inviting. I think the facility was pretty centrally located. They were off the beaten track a little ways. It was pretty. Even though it was off the beaten track, it was fairly close to the commercial areas. The dining area was a public area. They just started dinner when I visited so it was pretty active. People were coming in and getting served their meals. They had a calendar that was very filled with activities. They had bookshelves around the facility. It was like in one specific area in their little neighborhoods with a floor-to-ceiling bookcase that you could borrow books from. They had an exercise area and games to play. I was very impressed with it. It was very nice.

My mother will be moving into Sunrise of Pikesville. My overall experience was a 10, with 10 being the highest. The staff took us around and we were able to see various models and choices for living, which allowed us to better picture my mom moving into that facility. The atmosphere was friendly and it was clean. The caregivers were working with the seniors that were there in a friendly and calm manner. I chose them because it's an active senior living community where the seniors are actively engaged in activities and actively socializing with each other. They offer different activities, like workshops, walking in the morning, painting, arts, and music. I like Sunrise because they integrate holistic health, which is spiritual, mind, and body.

My brother has moved into Sunrise of Pikesville. So far, it's been excellent. The people are outstanding. They help you and they make sure you have everything you needed. They keep me informed of everything that's going on. They had dinner parties, gatherings, lunch, and a Hawaiian party. The staff is really good. They're really helpful. They told me that he got washed up. They let me know everything. My brother told me the food was good. It's nice in there. They got plenty of activities.

I toured Sunrise of Pikesville. That was nice. The person who came out, she's like the sales coordinator, and she talked about every aspect of the facility. Then she took us on a nice tour. We talked about my relative that we're interested in putting in, and she even reserved a spot, and she's holding it for like about five more days while we try and convince my cousin that this is what he needs. The apartment has a bed, dresser, and one other item of furniture that I can't remember. There's a little kitchenette. It has a fridge, a sink, and no microwave because people can get confused with those and set fires. There's a nice bathroom, it's very accessible. Everything looked nice. The person that took me around, was informative, knowledgeable, empathetic, and sincere. She had an excitement about the place, she's just so motivated about it. She's been there seven years and loved the place and her job.

The person that showed us around Sunrise of Pikesville was very helpful, very polite, and tried to answer all my questions. The memory care area seemed very nice and clean. There were plenty of areas for people to sit down and communicate with one another. They have a small central area where people could congregate for activities. Although I would have preferred a separate area with a large enough room, where people could attend certain activities. While we were there, they set up some plastic bowling pins, and the residents were participating in the game.

We went to Sunrise of Pikesville. It was very nice, but it was expensive. It's very clean, the people were very mannered. Everybody was helpful. I love the nurses, the rooms were nice. I did like it. It's just that it was, it's for the rich, it was very expensive. But if we had the money, it would have been worth the care. I believe she would have had good care there. Everybody was awesome. The young lady, Gloria, that did the tour was phenomenal. They were very, very helpful, very resourceful, gave me all of the information I needed, and were very attentive to our needs. They were awesome. Anybody that goes there, they'll see that. They were really good. They gave us flowers. They had a shower area with a bed and a little area where she could sit. It had a little refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink. They had an outdoor courtyard, no pool, and a courtyard where they had little activity, she even told me about the different activities. They took them out, they had bingo night, she showed me the little area where they eat, the little dining room. She showed me the whole facility.

We went to Sunrise of Pikesville. I knew somebody there. It's beautiful, lovely, and it was so nice. There was always something going on, and there were always people out and about. When you walk in, it's like a big hotel lobby, that's what it reminds me of, but it's people, people sitting, talking, and reading. When you're on a tour, everybody's nice, but when my friend was there, it seemed that everybody was very attentive. You have to push your little button, and sometimes they don't always come immediately, and you have to understand that. I think ten minutes, fifteen minutes is too long personally. They could improve on their response time. I think we did see one room, but I know from my experience of going to visit somebody, the studio apartment was very big compared to where my sister is now. It had a huge kitchenette. I ate lunch there one time, I had tuna, it was fair. You had a menu. You could order off the menu, which was nice. And it was just a nice big room, four people to a table. It was all on the first floor and you went from like the lobby area, but it's really like a huge sitting room and it's sections of it. You walk through another area where it's like an activity area right into the dining area. The grounds are very well kept and there's seating outside.

I visited Sunrise of Pikesville and saw their assisted and memory care. It's set up as a home family environment with individualized space for each resident. It's very warm, welcoming, and the staff was very accommodating in providing all the detailed answers to all of my questions. They have scheduled resident outings and in house events for the residents.

We went to Sunrise of Pikesville yesterday. Sunrise is a very, very nice place. It's a huge complex, and it was very clean. We loved everything about it except for there was an elderly lady sitting there when we came. She needed some attention, but she was sitting right where you came in. She said, "Somebody help me, is Mikey here today?" It was distressing, and it was sad. For the tour, we had Bianca. She was really great and down to earth. She was very informative. She gave us a lot of information that we should have gotten from the facility that has my aunt now. She was phenomenal. Those rooms were huge. They come with a little mini kitchen minus cooking accessories. The kitchens were large enough that you can probably put a table in there that can at least seat four to six people. There was lots of sitting room and lots of sun. It wasn't dark. It's got lots of sun in there and clear space. They had really large bathrooms. Some of the efficiencies they put two people in. They're really large enough for two people. They use a bathroom in between, but they were huge sunny rooms. They were ideal for people with larger families that would come and visit. At Sunrise, they had everything there. They have their physical therapists. They have nail salons, hair salons, laundry, and stuff like that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom stayed at Sunrise of Pikesville. She was in assisted living, but she was pretty independent, except for her medications. She moved into a first-floor apartment. As far as the care and the way they keep the place, I think that was good. My issue with them was billing. They got you in for the introductory rate -- I think it was $3400 a month -- then after the year was up, they tried to go to $4500. Then after the $4500, when we were already in the middle of the year lease period, they automatically changed the rent to $5400 for no reason. She wasn't getting any higher level of care -- she wasn't getting anything -- and they decided to implement a rate change. They wanted me to sign an addendum to the lease so that they could do it. I held out, and they ended up working with that, but the whole time that she was there, there were constantly issues with them billing and me watching the billing. I feel really bad for the older people who don't have people watching their billing, because they would just change the billing on you. As far the as the staff goes, how they take care of people is fine, but as far as the management and billing, billing would be the definite issue, and it really made me worry about not just momma -- I was fighting for her -- but for all the other people who are there who are just getting money pulled out of their accounts, and nobody's watching their money. I did not trust them, but everything else was fine. My mom had an incident later where she had to go to the emergency room. Basically, she was having a psychotic episode, so the nurse at Sunrise had already stated that it was unusual for my mom because she never had these issues. They couldn't figure out what was going on, but before I had a chance to find out what was really going on with my mother -- that's why I brought her home -- they already changed her rooming assignment so she wouldn't be able to go back to the independent living where she was before. I said we don't even know what's wrong with her yet; they said it wouldn't make a difference. So, they changed her rate to $5200, put her on the second floor, and my mom moved there because of the apartment. She picked the apartment, and it was nice, but that's why we ended up moving out. I found out that she was over-medicated on her Parkinson's medicines. The dopamine levels were too high, and we haven't had a problem at all for four months since she's been home. We cut her medications in half -- the doctors didn't do it -- and then Sunrise didn't wait to find out what was wrong, even though her doctor recommended it. They quickly raise her rate to $5200. I don't trust their billing; I feel like they randomly raise their rates in the middle of the year period, and they were not providing explanations as to why. She was there for three years, and that was my fight the whole time -- it was watching the billing and making sure they billed right, and I just stayed on top of it.

Sunrise of Pikesville provides very good service. The quality of the rooms was better, cheaper and higher quality than the other assisted living places we visited. The staff was very good, very knowledgeable, very helpful, and easy to approach. It was a very good experience. The dining area was very nice and easy to access and had clean tables. They had a lot of clubs like a walking club, movies, discussion groups, shopping, and outing. The facility was very nice. They would provide some limited nursing skills like certain lifts when somebody has trouble getting out of bed.

Sunrise of Pikesville was gorgeous. They looked like dollhouses. The person that was supposed to give us all the information was unavailable, so they gave us another person. She didn't know all the things and was giving us whatever she could get, but she was very good, tried to answer our questions, and took us around. They all seemed enthusiastic. They had tons of activities. If it was me, I'd go there. I did not taste the food, but it smelled wonderful.

Sunrise of Pikesville was a nice place with a dog which made things very friendly. The residents we talked to were nice. They had several different sizes of rooms, which was what we were looking for. Bianca was very nice and knowledgeable. The food was adequate and the dining area doubled as an activity area, so it wasn't cozy and separate. They had a lot of hidden fees that add up. It just wasn’t for us.

We went to visit Sunrise of Pikesville, and it’s a very nice facility as well as it’s well staff. The people are very nice. They also have variety of rooms that you can choose from. I also like the various activities that they have to keep their residents engaged

I like Sunrise of Pikesville very much. They try to do the best for their clients. They are very caring. They encourage friendship in this facility. They try to know what the resident’s background is, then they will put together residents with similar backgrounds. That way, they can meet new friends and mingle with residents of similar interests. Mom was from a rehab and she was in a wheelchair when she started living in this facility. They continued to do rehab on her through an agency and now, she can walk through a walker. As for the activities, they have music, puzzles, and trivia. Mom really enjoys it when there is somebody coming in to do Bible study and stuff like that. They also have movies. Mom doesn’t like her walk-in tub but for the most part, everything has been good at this facility.

I didn’t choose Sunrise of Pikesville because I was not the least bit impressed. I saw people just sitting around doing nothing with no interaction by the medical staff. They showed me a room and that was it. They didn't show me anything else. The room was OK, but it didn’t turn me on. It was not what I wanted for my husband. I was not impressed.

Sunrise was very nice and very clean. It wasn’t as large as others, but the grounds were very well-kept and nicely landscaped. It had a great, big wrap-around front porch that had a bunch of rocking chairs on it where you could go out and sit, which I thought was nice.

I was very impressed with Sunrise of Pikesville. They took us on a nice tour, and it seemed like a really nice facility. I've seen places that were a little more high-end, but this one didn't impress me as being high-end. First of all, we went in there without an appointment, and they had somebody give us a tour. We got to walk around, check the place out, and talk to people, and it seemed to be pleasant. They had a nice little patio, and their dining area looked like a cozy restaurant more than a chow hall, so that was kind of impressive. When we got there, the young lady showed us the various rooms, and we thought the room might actually be bigger. There was some lady who was doing an interaction with all of the residents that wanted to be there, and everybody seemed to be participating. They were all engaged and working with this lady, and they said that they do that pretty much every day. Everyday, they had something going on. I didn't have any negative thing to say about it, but it just wasn't financially advantageous and convenient to move our mother out there since I am happy with where she is now. If it was $1,000 cheaper, we might have considered it.

The Sunrise community at Pikesville actually has a live-in dog and cat, which was really fabulous. We saw a room that was available that we were actually going to be placing my father into. Super friendly folks there -- it was just really amazing. Like I said, they had a resident dog and a cat, which was really positive and uplifting for the residents, and my father would have loved it. There was so much activity going on. They had someone giving a talk to the residents in the dining area; it was like a current events' class. I thought it was really very good. We saw folks being taken outside for a walk and fresh air and that kind of thing. It just seemed to be really nice. I just loved the sitting areas; they were extremely comfortable. They felt like they were home. They have a nice television room with a fireplace. It was a very homey atmosphere.

Sunrise of Pikesville was very homey. It wasn't like what I would call institutional at all. Actually, it was kind of funny that they have a house dog there, and the dog was just wandering around. The residents were getting ready to have lunch, so it was nice to see everybody just kind of interacting. My contact there was very friendly, took a lot of time to answer all my questions, and gave us a tour, and it is likely to be my number one choice. I also asked them about respite care because, at this point of time, I still have home care for my mother, but they offered a fair program for the respite care, so I am going to keep that in mind if I ever need to use that. If and when it happens, I know which one I would probably select. I am looking at an apartment that has two people, but I really liked the architectural design of the two-person apartment. The way it was designed, it has a bathroom in-between the two of them so it was not like a hospital setting where the two beds are right next to each other. I really liked the separation, the space, and the privacy that you'd want, but it was still reasonable from a price perspective.

This is a very pretty place and that's about it. My mom's clothes were lost. Her medications were given incorrectly, and the staff (mostly GNAs or lower), didn't know how to contact her doctor or any doctor. Sunday dinner was a hotdog, with very salty chips. I wouldn't believe what we were paying for. Phone call regarding care issues went unanswered. I would not recommend this place.

I liked the layout of the rooms and the windows at Sunrise of Pikesville. However, they had a waiting list for the studios when I went there. The rooms were like upscale hotel rooms. They served three meals a day. They took us on a tour and explained things. They were rather reluctant to really tell us the monthly cost. They just informed us of the price range, which was per day. It was a very nice facility, but you wouldn't really know unless you had a family in there.

I moved my mom to Sunrise of Pikesville, and she's very happy where she is. It is not too far from where I live. It is three miles from my house. So, the location is really important. It is not huge. It is the right size. She can have the room I want her to have, and there are activities going on all day long. So she can be active. The rehab is just right there. The staff is so attentive and pleasant. You have a main caregiver. While that caregiver is on duty, that person is always looking after you. If that person is not on duty, of course someone else is. They are just so pleasant, so patient, and treat them as if they are their own relatives. Mom is 104, and they noticed right away when she had trouble lifting her left arm. They immediately called the paramedics and they called me. So, we were able to bring her to the hospital on time. The she went to rehab, and then she went back there. So, she had a stroke, but she's back the way she was. So, I cannot complain. The atmosphere there is very good. There are just so many things that work. You can even have beer and wine with dinner if you want.

Sunrise of Pikesville was very nice. My mother is at level 3, however; this facility is sort of a la carte. In addition, we are facilitating telehealth visits with health care providers, minimizing the need for external office visits.

At Sunrise, championing quality of life for all seniors is our mission and is carried out by every Sunrise team member. Based on resident surveys, consumer insights, and industry metrics, national programs have recognized Sunrise's efforts and our commitment to quality care.Sunrise communities have earned more than 280 National Quality Awards - more than any other assisted living provider. To learn more about our award winning communities, a full listing of the company's recipients can be found on Sunrise's National Quality Award page.
