We are planning on making a deposit on an apartment at Asbury Methodist Village. We have chosen them because they have an apartment available that meets our needs, and it is affordable for us. We're satisfied with the way the facility and the grounds are kept. There are about 1200 people there. The building we will probably be moving to was built in the 1990s, which is one of their newer buildings. It's a fairly large campus, and there are 4 or 5 different facilities for eating. So there is a lot of lot of flexibility in that. And they offer quite a lot in the way of fitness classes. They have a good fitness center with a pool. The grounds are quite extensive, so it's very easy to get out and walk in the grounds. It's a gated community, so it seems quite secure. The people that we met, including some of the residents, were pleasant and kind, and I think, we will get along well with them.

My 89 yr old mother was sent there from Shady Grove Hospital. The staff was nice but the whole reason for her stay was for the rehabilitation which was slow going. The staff would let her lay in bed all day. It's very frustrating when the health insurance will only give them so many days to stay and the cost is expensive.

A Disheartening Experience at Asbury Methodist Village Regrettably, my time at Asbury Methodist Village has been marked by disappointment and frustration, prompting me to share my experience for the benefit of prospective residents and management alike. From the outset, the facilities' upkeep has been subpar. Maintenance issues are prevalent and often take an eternity to resolve, making daily life inconvenient and uncomfortable for residents. It's disheartening to witness such neglect of basic necessities in a community that promises a comfortable and secure living environment. Moreover, the lack of meaningful engagement and activities is alarming. Despite assurances of a vibrant community life, the reality falls short. Events are few and far between, and those that do occur are often poorly organized and lackluster. Residents are left longing for opportunities to socialize and participate in enriching activities that promote a sense of belonging and fulfillment. The management's handling of concerns and complaints is equally disappointing. Feedback from residents is frequently brushed aside or met with indifference, fostering a sense of alienation and powerlessness among those who call Asbury Methodist Village home. It's evident that resident satisfaction is not a priority for the management team. Additionally, the dining experience leaves much to be desired. The quality of food is inconsistent, and the menu offerings are uninspired and repetitive. For a community that prides itself on providing exceptional dining options, the reality falls far short of expectations. Furthermore, the cost of living at Asbury Methodist Village does not align with the level of service and amenities provided. Residents are subjected to exorbitant fees without corresponding value or quality, making it difficult to justify the considerable financial investment required to reside here. In conclusion, my experience at Asbury Methodist Village has been deeply disappointing. The lack of maintenance, dearth of meaningful activities, indifferent management, underwhelming dining options, and unjustifiable costs collectively paint a grim picture of life within this community. As a prospective resident, I would urge careful consideration before committing to life at Asbury Methodist Village, and as management, I implore you to address these concerns earnestly and promptly to restore faith in the promise of a fulfilling retirement experience.

In less than a month, my husband and I will have lived at Asbury for five years. At the time that we decided to move here we were not even thinking of leaving our home of 42 years and assumed we would “age in place”. If anyone had suggested that we move, we would have been aghast at the thought. But then serendipity stepped in and within a week of first having the idea planted in our head we had “signed on the dotted line” and we knew in our hearts we had made the right decision. In retrospect, yes it was. For anyone reading this, I say to you, in my opinion Asbury has whatever you may want or need to live out your years in the best way possible. There are people here still in their 60’s and working their jobs. Some people (like us) had lived in a neighborhood that had changed, had friends who moved away for one reason or another, and life had gotten smaller for us even though we still tried to live as we always had with fewer opportunities to make that really happen. Others have waited until health problems are a reality and moving a necessity. Then, of course, there are lots of other in-between situations that bring people to Asbury. There are many options for living space here - homes with garages, various kinds of independent living apartments, assisted living and skilled nursing. Many people face the realization that while okay now, they may live long enough to need the extra help available here at Asbury. As for activities and special interests, there is most likely anything anyone could want here at Asbury - and friends to enjoy it with. For many, the garden plots are a highlight. Most everybody enjoys the many walking trails around the two ponds and the many trees that are included in Asbury being designated an arboretum by the state of Maryland. In my case, multiple ways for exercise and opportunities to enjoy nature, interesting friends, stimulating classes, lectures, concerts and trips are tops. You can be as involved or as private as works for you. About the opportunity to experience nature, here at Asbury I take walks around the ponds once or twice a day depending on the weather, and feel restored each time. While I can walk these areas, I see other people not only walking but some using the whole gamut of mobility aids- canes, rollators, being pushed in wheel chairs, driving their own scooter or electric wheelchairs. People living with assistance there with their aids. One resident here is a very knowledgable birdwatcher and sends out periodic emails with notes and pictures of the birds he has identified on campus. This week, during the height of the migrations season he reported seeing 50 different species on one morning and 119 so far this year. Being able to get outside in such a beautiful and safe place at my age is truly one of the best things about living here. About the food: there are three main dining rooms and other smaller ones including a Bistro with a full bar that is open all day. I think most everybody enjoys the food. However, I am what is called a “picky eater” and I am happy with how nicely the dining staff works with me to be sure I have what I want/need. I recently heard about a Hindu couple who moved here and are happy they can get such good vegetables. My husband and I are really happy to be living at Asbury.

I will be moving to Asbury Methodist Village. The staff is very kind, and they seem dedicated. The place looks good and well-kept. They have a lot of amenities that are just lovely. There's a dining room in practically every apartment building. There's a dedicated arboretum. On campus they have a wildlife preserve, walking paths, and a gardening area. They also have a wellness center with an indoor pool and other amenities, such as a gym. They have a cafe, a little store, and other things associated with the concept of wellness. They have all kinds of special interest clubs like dancing and intellectual groups. They offer educational things, and they have lectures. There's a huge theater there.

I toured Asbury Methodist Village. They have all the levels of care and you can stay there until you die. But the independent living is separate. It's a fabulous place. Their outdoors are enclosed, and you can see through them. It's like walking through a tunnel the whole way and you can see where you've gone, and you feel like you're outside even on a cold day. They make the apartment to your recommendations. If you want different colored tiles in the living room, the kitchen, and the bathroom, you can change the color of the tile. You can put down marble if you want. You can design and put the color on the walls that you want. They charge you for it, but it's still a nice convenience. It has tons of activities, and they have a pool. They have classes during the week and on weekends. You can have your family come eat with you. You pay a monthly fee for your meals. They have bingo and woodworking. They also have a very nice library with very nice chairs for you to sit on and read if you want, and you can also sign a book out. The outdoors is beautiful and professionally maintained. The bushes are flowering. The money that you give them as a down payment goes into the building structure and the yard keep. The food is excellent, too. They just try their hardest to get you to come to live there.
Step on to the Asbury Methodist Village campus and you just feel it. The energy. The camaraderie. The possibility. It's a welcoming environment that is unmatched at other Continuing Care Retirement Communities. As an Asbury community, we take senior living to new levels by creating a place where people from diverse backgrounds live with heart "” sharing life experiences, exploring new opportunities, and building a fulfilling future for themselves and their neighbors.
When you're in a vibrant community of people who love where they live, in a location as full of natural beauty as Gaithersburg, camera-worthy moments happen all the time.
