I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Williamsburg Senior Living Community was very clean and very nice. My sister had friends there. They have a dining room, and they make two meals a day, breakfast and lunch. When she first started there, she was able to deal with the services that they offered. She was going to lunch many days, and she was still participating and stuff like that. She had a really bad fall. After that, she declined sharply. The food was alright for institutional food. It was pretty decent. The people were friendly and nice. She had friends and neighbors in there. There was one incident that I didn't care for when my sister had maybe two hours a day unsupervised. She called for help. At that point, she had been combative. They took advantage of that and said that she would have to be covered 24 hours a day or find someplace else. I think they should have been more understanding because this is what happens many times when people are going through the final stages of life. It was the illness, obviously. It was just a short period when she seemed to be that way. Other than that, I thought it was very good. For round the clock care, it's not a facility that people should use. If it was normal assisted living or if they have a sitter come in, then it is fine. It is very clean, and they have someone at the desk 24 hours. You don't even need to worry about locking the apartment door because all the outside doors are locked. People must identify themselves if they're coming to a door other than the front desk. It is very safe and is pretty nice as far as the environment and everything goes. The grounds are nice. The apartments are small, but they're nice. They have a little kitchen and a bathroom for handicapped people. It is a nice place to have someone. If they get to the point where they need 24-hour care, you probably either need to have round the clock sitters or move the person to another facility with a higher level of care. In terms of activities, in the beginning, she was participating in some stuff. They would bring animals in. They had some miniature horses that would come in, and they would do it in a community room. They had a reading room and different eating areas aside from the dining hall.

I toured Williamsburg Senior Living Community. I liked the outside, they had a garden that the clients were able to interact in, and you could go out there and sit, read, or you could plant stuff. They also had walking trails. Because there's a bar right next door, and that's young people. So they said that sometimes when they have a band, you can hear it all, and Government Street is very, very busy. The staff who gave the tour was very nice, they came and joined us for lunch and I liked it. The food was really good. They had everything, a game room where they would engage in games. Of the three places that I've visited, this place offered the most for their clientele. It's close to a lot of restaurants on Government street, there's a lot in that area.

We did a tour of Williamsburg Senior Living Community. They have a talkative marketing director, and she talks too much. She introduces you to every single person that comes around you, and it's exhausting. When you're wanting to look at a place, you're not ready to meet people; you want to find a place. She was a bit overwhelming, but she knew her job for sure. They don't allow pets, so we were going to have to get an emotional support animal certificate in order for the pet to come. It's a nice community. It's super active and engaging with the residents. Their location is not too great. One downside is they only offer two meals a day. They clean once a week. This place did not allow pets, but they clean once-a-week and do your linens. They have lots of activities for the seniors. Another downside is, they have individual electric meters. You had to pay your own electricity, which was different.

The rooms at Williamsburg Senior Living Community are smaller. The other facility paid for the TV, lights, gas, and water, but Williamsburg did not. The staff was very nice, but they don't have a pool, a library, or a fitness center. It was very nice, and it comes second on our list. They have areas outside for sitting and whatnot. They had tables scattered around, but not as well designed in my opinion. We had food there, and it was very good. They only had two meals a day. They had breakfast and lunch, but no dinner.

Facility is beautiful and the space is great. However, the Marketing/Admission (?) person was not organized and appeared to tell us what she thought we wanted to hear. She did not listen to me nor my husband’s questions. Inconsistency in answers.

Provider Response

Dear Mrs. Clair, First I would like to thank you for touring our beautiful community. Our deepest apology for not answering all of your questions. At Williamsburg, we are eager to please from your first day to your last day. We would love the opportunity to make it right. Please come and have lunch with us in our Private Dining Room and give us a chance to properly answer your questions. We really strive for every guest to have an amazing experience at Williamsburg. Thank you!

The tour I had with Williamsburg Senior Living Community was excellent. I really liked the place. The staff was very nice, and all the people there seemed happy. The facilities looked great. There were some restrictions, but they had bingo, a reading room, exercise classes, TV night, movie night, popcorn, and they had a garden that the residents can go to.

My mother will move into Williamsburg Senior Living Community. My mom thinks she'll be happy with it. The only thing I don't really like about it, is they only provide two meals a day, instead of three, and if you want a third meal, you pay for it extra, so I don't like that about it, but the facility itself is nice. The room is very nice, but the doorways were narrow, and she could barely get through with her walker. The staff was nice, but what the lady told us when we were there was not completely accurate about the laundrya. She said normally they charge for the laundry. I told her the other place I looked at, the laundry was included. She told me they would go ahead and throw in the laundry. Okay great, then the person that was over her said "no we can't just do it indefinitely, we'll do it for a year." So, I wasn't real happy, one person told me one thing, and another told me something else. I felt like they should keep their word about it. We met with a couple of residents, we said hello.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

About a year and half ago, our Dad made a decision that he wanted to relocate from Alexandria (our family home for 60+ years) and move to Baton Rouge. My sisters and I immediately started looking for the right retirement home for Dad and after visiting Williamsburg we felt welcome from the time Karla buzzed us in to greet us, to Tonia’s 2-hour tour! Tonia introduced Williamsburg residents and staff like family and friends. Dad fell in love with Williamsburg and was ready to move in. The friendship among the residents is genuine. Love the residents and apartment. Spacious, window views from living room to bedroom with natural light and an awesome sunset. Dad loved natural light! Loved his kitchen nest and how friendly everybody was. The daily activities (BINGO), restaurant excursions, seasonal parties (New Years, Mardi Gras, 4th of July,Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and whatever day they could find to celebrate (with great food, prizes, live music and dancing were the activities that bring residents together! ) We as a family, engaged with a phenomenal staff who went above and beyond to make Dad and our family comfortable. We will miss Williamsburg and when I’m ready for senior living, Williamsburg will be home!

Williamsburg Senior Living Community was right in the middle of town, which is nice. The community was nice. I ate with them and everybody sat with us, and they were all friendly. We had a great time. The rooms were bigger than I thought they were going to be. The price was about what I expected. The rooms were nice. I was looking for a one- or two-bedroom, but they showed me everything. They had lots of community activities and a lot of people came in and did things. They had trips every week to various grocery stores and they have a bus that takes you to places. They had exercise and educational classes, like art, French, Spanish, or history. They were upgrading their rooms, which increased the cost. The staff was excellent and very pleasant. The food was good. It was very well maintained for an older building and very clean. There was a refrigerator and a microwave in the room.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Our experience with Williamsburg Senior Living has been very good so far. The service is good, and the people are nice. The facilities are beginning to show their age, but it's well-kept. It could use a little updating. The food is much better than where I used to be; it's good. The activities they have for the residents are also good. It could also be a little better on the cost; I have to buy my own internet.

Our tour at Williamsburg was excellent. In fact, had my father not passed away, we would have moved my parents there. The food was very good. We found nothing about Williamsburg to be objectionable. We were very impressed with it, that's why we were seriously considering moving my parents there. We found everyone there to be very helpful.

We visited Williamsburg Senior Living and my friend moved in there. It was a very good visit, the apartments were small, but equipped with what was needed. The staff was helpful and friendly. My friend is content with the food. She has participated in the exercise activities, they have several parties, and they also threw her a welcoming party. They have a game room, an activity room, a library, a reading room, and a social gathering area.

Williamsburg Senior Living Community was closer to downtown, but they don't have a nursing home. My visit was great. I knew someone from my city was there, and she had brownies to give to a lady in a wheelchair and they were laughing and talking. I really would like to have gone there, but they didn't have the nursing home. The staff took us through all the things that we would need to see. They had lots of things planned and speakers who come in. My friend said I need to come here and she loves it, and I did consider it. They were laughing and talking and having fun with each other, but I don't want my son to have to move me again. The staff was very knowledgeable and told us about rooms. When I told them I don't like the showers, they said they would fix it, but I would have to unfix it when I left. The dining area was nice, and they could sit in groups, but they could sit anywhere. It was nice and pretty big. The chefs come to the dining area because they know people are finicky about their food. They all did a good job. The facility was good, and everything was well kept. They must have good cleaning people. We went into the rooms, and the ladies would tell us all about it. I didn't see anything wrong with any of them.

We liked Williamsburg Senior Living Community, the rooms were nice. It was the one that had a model room and it's also used if residents have a guest staying overnight, which was really cool. They had a chapel. It is a really big and nice facility, but it was also expensive. They had a dining room, laundry room, hairdresser, and other necessary things that residents need.

Williamsburg Senior Living Community was lovely. I liked it a lot. The staff was nice and friendly to their residents, and the residents were friendly and interacted with each other. All of their residents had to remain ambulatory, which may not be possible for my dad. The dining area looked very nice. They had outings, art projects, games, and music.

I liked Williamsburg Senior Living Community a lot. It's one of my favorites. I really enjoyed Tanya, who was very helpful. I got to meet a couple of helpful residents while I was waiting and got a first-hand impression of what it's like to live there. I was very impressed. The grounds and the way the place looked were very appealing to me. They had a library, and games and different activities throughout the week. I was really impressed with the dining room.

Williamsburg Senior Living Community is extremely friendly from the general manager down to the housekeepers. It’s nice and clean -- just a great living community. It has everything that my dad would want there -- a barbershop, a little place to eat breakfast and lunch, and many activities for his age. It’s very close to my house, and it’s a beautiful location. The apartment is absolutely gorgeous; the place seems to have more amenities. It makes me feel very good knowing that he’s there and well taken care of.

Williamsburg is very nice, and I would love to place my husband there if I could afford it. It’s probably one of the best in the city, and people care a lot. They have different programs; they have a garden for people who like to garden, and -- whatever your hobby is -- they go out of their way to try and facilitate you doing your hobby. The food is good, and it’s very home-like. The staff is very caring, and the residents seem to love them. It’s really a good place.

We love Williamsburg Retirement, and she is doing great. It’s providing her the right level of support. The room is a little small, but it’s just fine for efficiency and she is very happy with the quality of the food. They have do big rooms there, but we got the smaller ones. It’s a centrally located and caring community. The staff is supportive of the residents as well as the family. The grounds were beautiful; right now they’re re-doing some parts of the outside.

Williamsburg Senior Living Community was an older place. We saw one nice room, and we only ran into the lady who toured us. I think they had calendars of activities around the clock. It’s a large place. They have plenty of people there, and there are lots of activities for them.

My mother is in the assisted living at Williamsburg. They have been most cooperative and helpful in taking care of my mom's needs and in working with her medicines. She has a one-bedroom with her own bathroom and a kitchen with a microwave oven, sink and cabinets. The dining room and the living room are all in one big room, and she has closets. They do exercises, play bingo, and have various groups come in to sing, dance, and make Christmas ornaments. They have a lady there that comes by and does their nails without charge. We are very pleased with how they treat my mom.

My Mom has been a resident here for several years. Until recently, I would agree with the glowing comments. Nice facility, affordable, clean, activities. Will say that since new management, I have heard NUMEROUS complaints about the food and the fact that the managment team responds in an arrogant manner to complaints. These people may be old but, they deserve respect and to be listened to. Not told "if you don't like it give me 3 months notice, and leave". That is not an answer, that is a Blow off. I too am concerned about the lack of dietary structure by a real dietician. News flash, these people like to eat, let them. There are other meats on earth besides pork and chicken. Potatos and rice are not vegetables, they are a starch. They have a tenant meeting on Tuesday the 12th of May. I am seriously considering going in order to get both sides of the story. If I do, I will re-post with results.

I found one, and my mom moved in already to Williamsburg Senior Living. I chose it because of the atmosphere, the location, what they had to offer, the people, the management, and the pricing. They are very helpful on giving some information and details of what they have to offer. When she first got in, they really helped her along to get established and have her settled in. They provide transportation and give them medications delivered there and things like that. The apartment she has looks nice. It's called a studio apartment with a nice kitchen, dishwasher, refrigerator, and microwave. Some places we looked at even for more money didn't have that. For the money, they had more to offer as far as the appliances and the layout. They got bingo and cards. They have ice cream and coffee in the evening. They bring them to the mall. Probably once a week, a bus brings them somewhere like Wal-Mart, the casino, or a store. She's been there for a month and a half, and so far so good.

My mother is living here now at 92 and enjoying the social aspects. She is not too excited about the food and I do have some concern that the food director is not a registered dietician. The facility is the most reasonably priced facility in the area and the staff has been great except the General Manager has not addressed a serious issue regarding the resident in the unit above my mother. The woman starts playing loud music at 4:30 in the morning and also late at night. It is taking a toll on my mother and I am worried it will begin to affect her health. The GM has been avoiding the issue but we are meeting with him tomorrow to resolve the issue.

She's already been placed at Williamsburg Retirement Community. The staff are awesome. They are great and very personal. The rooms were very large with lots of storage. The food is very, very good. They do have buffet style with white table cloths and flowers on the table. Their dining room is very elegant. They have bingo and trips to Walmart. They have a hair salon. They do exercise, do get togethers, and play games.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We opted Williamsburg Senior Living Community for our mother after several initial visits to the facility. The staff is friendly and engaging with good supportive service. The food was always freshly prepared with a loving, homely touch. They offer a lot of activities for the residents and some of them will take advantage of that, but it seems that most of the residents prefer to stay in their rooms and to themselves. Our mother has the privacy and independent lifestyle she loved with the advantages of a nice touch of personal housekeeping care and active community events. The place is well taken care of, and feels very homey, with many sitting areas, gathering space, and public rooms that feel like living rooms. They always decorate for the holidays, and the place seems festive whenever I visit. The individual rooms are fair sized: not huge, but big enough for everything the residents need, with closets, bathrooms, and small kitchen units with the bare essentials (fridge and microwave). The residents all appear to feel comfortable roaming and using the community as they please, they "get" that it's their home and that the common areas designed so that they and their guests could have a comfortable place to retreat and socialize.
