All staff go through training once a quarter on dementia. Staff that work directly with dementia care residents receive training on the BBET system.

At Highgrove, our residents are active and engaged. Our residents enjoy Bingo, live music and happy hour. The average age is 82.

We offer a robust activity calendar with a wide range of activities, such as live music, religious services, games, arts and crafts and outings. We also partner with medical services such as visiting physicians, podiatry and flu clinics.

Highgrove at Tates Creek is conveniently located in the South side of Lexington near grocery stores, pharmacies, shopping and restaurants.

We offer scheduled transportation services Monday through Friday as well as transportation to Sunday church services.

We take pride in delivering the highest quality of food service to our residents and guests. Dining service is more than just a meal, but rather a place where residents enjoy fun and exciting social events as well. All-day dining is offered daily from 7am-6:30pm in our comfortable and attractive restaurant, The Grove. Our friendly and experienced wait staff serves every meal directly to your dining table. Our menu features home cooked meals, using only the freshest ingredients, with many items available made to order! Menus are tastefully planned and prepared by our Executive Chef.

We feature a state-of-the-art security system throughout the community including door alarms, security cameras, key-pad entry and more.

We like to keep our residents’ families informed by updating them on subtle and major changes in the health of the resident, updates after an assessment, host quarterly family nights, and send activity calendars/ event invites to the families every month.

The daytime ratio of staff-to-resident is 10:1, the night time ratio (11 PM- 7 AM) is 13:1.

To provide safety for residents who wander we have personal on staff 24/7, have systems set up on doors for outside that alert the staff when they have been opened, routine two-hour checks on residents, a receptionist on staff until 7 pm, and locked front entrance after 7 pm, with code access (that is given on a need to know basis).
What programs or activities does Highgrove at Tates Creek offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
We provide numerous activities to keep the residents’ engaged. These include: music (sing-a-long and performances), daily devotionals, entertainment (dance teams, magicians), pet therapy, arts and crafts and games.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Wellness Director assesses the residents’ health and cognitive function. The initial assessment is done prior to move in, the second in done 30 days after moving in, and then done once a year after. If there seems to be a change occurring, then an assessment is done as needed. Blood pressure and weight are checked as needed.
What techniques does Highgrove at Tates Creek use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
As a certified assisted living community, one of the state regulations for residency is that the resident must be able to feed themselves. We do assist in the choice of meal. We learn from the family members of the resident what their favorite foods are and what they will not eat. This helps us to give the resident a couple choices to pick from. If what is chosen turns out to not be what the resident wanted, then we know what meals to fall back on.

We have an ideal location! We are directly next to both a residential neighborhood and businesses. We have a nice, quiet neighborhood with a park next to us. We also have two grocery stores, many restaurants, pharmacies, and other businesses close by.
Is Highgrove at Tates Creek affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
We have partnered with the Lexington Clinic for routine check-ups and care if the residents has become ill. If the resident needs the care of a hospital, then we send the resident to the hospital that the family prefers.
