I visited this facility

I've toured here recently and was surprised at how involved the staff was. It seemed like everyone stopped to say hello and introduce themselves. I met a few residents and they were candid about living here. They had such great things to say. If you're looking for a nice place that isn't stuffy or snooty and feels welcoming, this is the place. I can't wait to bring my aunt here to tour.

I live here in a studio apartment. The size is just perfect for me and the price couldn't be matched. I have made so many friends while living here too.

I'm now living at Holiday Walden Place. I chose this place because I liked it when I had the tour, and I could afford it. It's within my budget. I also like that we could all have our pets and there's great food. I like the atmosphere so far. They have a lot of activities, and you can go to different ones every single day. It's just an adjustment because I came from a good-sized house. I like all the people and all the activities here. My apartment is little, but it's still nice and quaint. One nice thing is that it has one big window. My back door leads right to the parking lot, and I still have my car, so it is very nice. The staff are all polite and very nice. The food is excellent. They have a chef and four different options for every meal, so it is very good. There are a lot of activities. And I was surprised I found a place that I could afford with my Social Security and a little pension.

The tour I had at Holiday Walden Place was wonderful. Rene took me around. His knowledge was excellent. His personality was awesome. He was a very nice, cordial guy to take me in. We had lunch together there. The food was OK and we probably spent a good three hours together. He showed me everything and told me everything. The other staff I saw were all really accommodating, too, and wanted to be of help. They had a really nice attitude. I was really impressed with everything. If I was going to punch the ticket and go tomorrow, that's where I would go. They were setting up for bean bag baseball, but they didn't start playing it yet. We were there a little early. The people were very welcoming. The outdoors were just a bit dated, but it still was presentable and clean.

We liked that Holiday Walden Place would cook three meals a day for you and that the physical therapy was conveniently located. There was one apartment that my mom looked at where the physical therapy was right next to it. Right across from the apartment was the laundry. The facility was clean. Some rooms had it where you could open the doors, and you had a little space outside. You could have your own garden or plants. We are very family oriented. We liked that they had activity rooms where games were set up that your family could come and do with you. The rooms were just really tiny for mom, and she did not like that at all. You have to bring your own appliances. There were no stoves, but there was a mini fridge if you wanted to have snacks. We didn't see any other people of color there besides the staff. The price was a lot, too. The gentleman that toured us around was very down to earth. You could tell that he was trying to be relatable. He was extroverted. The people around spoke to him, and he helped them. He tried to show that it was a community. I think overall he was good, and he tried to be thorough and honest.

The rep at Holiday Walden Place was very professional when we did the tour. It was a very clean facility and the people were all very nice. They let us sample the food so we went at lunchtime to sample the food, and the food was good. The staff who helped us went through the whole building, and all of the areas, and went through a couple of different apartments. We were able to see the plans for the different options there. Overall, it was a nice facility. The layout was easily accessible for my brother, and they have an elevator. Everything was mapped out and simple to get to.

Walden Place is significantly larger. I was impressed with the place. It was well-staffed. The residents were mobile. Some of these folks have vehicles there, and they can come and go if they want. I think they did a really good job when we came in taking our temperatures, taking our intake information like screening, and ensuring that we weren't presenting any issues for their residents. It was much bigger than it looked on the outside. The residents were able to get around. They had a lot of elevators available and a lot of open areas for the residents if they wanted to mingle and collaborate. They had an onsite hairdressing place where people could get their haircuts and get things done there. It sounds like your activity director was active. He mentioned that they have a bus and that they could take their residents out. They have planned activities for them even offsite. Even with something as simple as going and getting ice cream, I thought was a great service to have available. They had a variety of different living situations available, too, from the studio side to the one-bedroom, to the two-bedroom. I thought that was good, too. I was impressed. I was like, 'Wow! I didn't realize this was so big.' And then the fact that they had it laid out so well for the folks here; it was very good. Eddie was the gentleman I met with; he was the director there. He was super, super helpful, and he answered all of our questions and did a follow-up with me.

I went to Walden Place. It was a great tour, they're very friendly, the housing was clean, and the residents were happy. The staff was very knowledgeable, very helpful, and answered all of our questions. The rooms were clean, roomy, and flexible. They had a variety. I viewed a one-bedroom and a studio, and both were nice.

My daughter is in Walden Place. We chose it because everybody else wanted too much money. It seems like a pretty nice and clean place. The people are real nice over there and everything. I like it. The room is really nice. She just went in yesterday. The surroundings are fine. The whole place is nice and clean. I love it. They have an exercise room, a TV room, an art room, and a chapel. They got different things that people would be into. The staff that I met seemed pretty nice. The people were having lunch, and I guess it's pretty good. They have drawing, a movie room, and different activities for the people that are there. She loves to draw, so she likes that.

My sister moved into Walden Place, and the staff and the amenities that they offer are just terrific. The staff are just so helpful and so willing to help with anything that she needs; they're just nothing but smiles. They've been just great helping my sister with the transition to independent living. Her room is great, it's not too big and not too small, and it just suits her perfectly. Their dining area is lovely, and they have a private dining room that is really nice. I myself have eaten two meals there in the private dining room with my sister and a staff member. They've both been delicious. My sister is pleased with the food. I would say it's not top-of-the-line chef cuisine, but it's very, very good, balanced, and fresh. They have something going on every single day. They have a movie-screening room, a little theater room where they go and watch certain movies or TV shows regularly, and bingo and art classes. After COVID gets over and quarantine is not such an important thing, they'll have a lot of activities outside the facility too. But there's always something going on, and there are always people in the common rooms. They've been around long enough that it's time for a little renovation, which I guess they are planning to do in the next year or so.

Walden Place is very welcoming and very quaint, and I thought it would be a place where my mother would feel very comfortable. The staff was very helpful and very enthusiastic. What really I enjoyed were the people, especially the person who showed me around. They showed me the one-bedroom. It would be perfect for my mother. It has a nice closet space and the bathroom was good. The place is very friendly, and I walked away with a really good feeling about the place; it's very warm.

My mom is moving into Walden Place. I have signed a lease at Walden Place, but I have not moved her in yet because she is in a skilled nursing facility. As for Walden Place, I liked what I saw and it was clean. Food was good. The sales people were very nice. The reason why I chose them is the range of ages of people from 55 all the way to 99. The major point for me was easy access to where we are living. The apartments were okay and clean. We picked a decent apartment. It is pretty nice, and it has a nice balcony. They are going to do whatever we ask. They are going to make it handicapped accessible, which is a plus. It did not have a walk-in shower, which is the only thing I didn't like about this. There is plenty of space. I picked a 500 square foot one bedroom apartment.

My sister is currently in Walden Place. The staff there is quite good I think, and they've been doing a good job when they have had possible COVID-19 cases come up. They've been doing a very good job of keeping that under control. It's a very friendly place, they're still doing activities, but there's probably fewer people taking part now than before the whole pandemic began. They're doing the usual safeguards and keeping people spread apart and wearing masks. They have an exercise room, and the physical therapist is working with my sister.

We decided to stay where we are at Walden Place. It's very comfortable with very friendly people, good people to take care of the situation, excellent serving staff, and cleaning staff. They do a good job, we have no problems at all. There's family-feel with the residents, like in an apartment, but you get to know your neighbors well. I have no complaints. The food is very good generally, you have options, and you can ask things off the menu, and generally they do a very good job with that also. They have a lot of different things, every day there's something quite often something special, and last week they had something for seniors for healthy living and keeping active. They have a library, exercise room, family room, TV room, and a nice outdoor area to relax in, and laundry facilities on every floor.

I visited Walden Place. They showed me a corner apartment with lots of windows, and it was very airy. We like the fact that the kitchen was very small and compact, and did not take up a lot of space. One thing I've noticed is that the lower level had a musty smell, like a carpeted damp. When I was there, the residents were playing a game, like they were trying to throw a bean bag into a hole. The staff was very friendly.

Hi Dennis, thank you for taking the time to visit us. Your review has been shared with the management team, who will review to see how we can improve for our residents. Please reach out to us if you have any questions.

The rooms at Walden Place are very good. The staff is very kind, and there's always somebody around to answer questions for you. The food is satisfactory, and I appreciate the small servings. I moved in Wednesday and Thursday and went shopping already. They have a luncheon scheduled later in the month and different activities in different areas. They have a big-screen television with a couple couches where men can watch football games or any sports they want and not be disturbed. They had a piano player the other day mid-afternoon in the dining room.

My parents like Walden Place. The only bad thing about it is the food. It's three meals a day, but they get very tiny portions. For the cost, the food is horrible. They have several activities like music and Bingo. They have a library, a family get-together room, a TV room, an exercise room, a hair salon, and a main dining room, but they only have one very small elevator for the entire place.

They do not provide transportation for residents except from 8 am to 12 pm Monday thru Friday. This means there is no transportation for going to the movies, shopping or church on Sunday.

Provider Response

Hello, thank you so much for reaching out and providing this feedback. We are delighted to hear from you, but are very sorry to hear our transportation schedule is a cause for concern. I do want to clarify and confirm seniors can absolutely use the bus during these times for activities such as the shopping, the library, movies, etc., although, medical appointments do receive first priority. On top of the bus, our Enrichment coordinator also schedules weekly shopping trips and monthly lunches, as well as regular movie outings. We'd love to see you out on any of these trips, and would also like to encourage you reach out with any additional comments you may have - we are accessible by phone at 800-370-8331, or email at bryan.bailey@holidaytouch.com. Thanks again, and hope to hear from you soon!

I visited Walden Place. It was very nice, but I wanted something in my area in the Quad cities rather than Iowa City. It is very large. However, it seemed like they had a lot of things. The staff was marvelous, and the room was nice, but we decided that my parents needed to be closer to me. The lady that I toured with was very helpful, but the place felt very crowded.

We went to Walden Place for my mom. It was a very nice facility, but the travel for us wasn't convenient. The rooms were very nice. They had a couple of sizes that they offered. Their personnel were quite helpful and willing to work with you. Their chef seemed very knowledgeable about the cooking. They offered us a meal, and it was good. The only drawback that they had was their distance from where we live. However, the overall look of the facility was really nice; it was a nice setup. I would recommend Walden Place.

Walden Place was very nice, and the staff was wonderful. We've eaten there several times, and the food is excellent. Every time I was there it was something different. They had an outdoor concert earlier this year, and that was very nice. They keep calling me because they wanted me to come for Labor Day. They have some concerts, speakers that come in and talk, and all kinds of different things. I checked on the rooms and they were nice, but right now I am in a condo by myself, and it was like too much of a downsize for me. The staff was wonderful. They were very friendly, and they'd go out of their way to help you. They even have three chefs that are on duty to prepare the meals, set up the menus, and so forth, and I was very impressed with that. They have snacks on the countertop in between meals, and it seems like there is always something around to eat.

Walden Place was a nice place. I met some of the directors and they were very nice. They had good people. The rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. They had activities like board game nights. They had people coming in. They had an Elvis impersonator when I was there. They were a little expensive but then that's to be expected for all the amenities they provided. I had two friends that lived there already. They had invited me back and I really enjoyed my visit. However, the meal time was a little slow, it took an hour for them to serve the meal and I didn't have the patience for it.

I went to Walden Place and it's a beautiful place with nice people. The facility has an older building which I really like because I don't like those modern buildings. It has hallways and each couple or person would have a two-room apartment with a kitchenette. The place is really nice, but it's not the kind of lifestyle that I need. I can't see myself living in a two-bedroom apartment. They have public spaces which are really nice. They have a computer room on each floor and a library. They also have lots of activities which seemed really corny to me. Everybody there seemed really happy. The price was too expensive for me although the services were absolutely incredible. They come in and clean your apartment every week and change the bed linens and that's very nice.

I'm staying in Walden Place. They serve two meals a day including breakfast and the food is great. The management is very caring and they do all the housekeeping. The housekeepers serve the food basically and in the evening when the housekeepers aren't there, they have students from the local college to do it. The food is superb. I have everything that I need in my room and it is clean. They have all kinds of activities like various card games and activities that will keep you physically fit. They have bingo and people come in to do musical programs. They have a bus that takes people around to the various appointments, store, shopping centers and banks. But there is no lift for my scooter. I am recommending them to others.

We've been in Walden Place for a couple of months now. The management is very kind and most people here are very nice. The food is very, very good. There's lots to do like exercises, bingo, card games, a TV room and movies on schedule. And if you don't want to participate it's all right, too. We have an outside entrance. We could go out to a patio and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. We have two bedrooms and two separate bathrooms. You can also have pets. It really fills our needs and that's what we wanted. I would certainly recommend Walden Place.
