I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

They lost pieces of clothing. Staff are easily offended and entitled. They removed very expensive equipment for my father and when I went to get it it wasn't in the room. The accused me of taking it and I had not. Later to find out the removed it. I received an apology but my family is listed as hostile people.

My brother moved into Good Samaritan Society - Davenport. It is good for all incomes since my brother was low income. They have a great staff there. Very clean. They have a reading room, so they have a library, a television room, and an activities room. They work hard with a short amount of staff.

My mother is in the Good Samaritan Society. It's a good nursing home, they take care of the patients, it's just very costly. The staff, the aides, and everybody there, they're good, and they've taken a lot of anger off for her. It seems clean, they have housekeeping there, cleaning the rooms every day.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I have been in Good Samaritan for six months now, and they are wonderful. You get one meal a day, the food is always good, and they give you a lot of variety. It's very clean and well kept. The staff is exceptional. Once a week they have someone who comes in, cleans your countertops, cleans and vacuums your floors, and cleans your bathroom. Then you have a Lifeline that comes with your rent, and they pay all your utilities. It's expensive, but they give you a lot for it. However, I'm at that point where I have to get something a little bit less expensive because I'm still pretty young; I'm only 65, and all my money would be gone. Good Samaritan was recommended to me by other people, and I was not disappointed. My only concern is they don't have much in the way of activities. They're trying to build that back up but because of COVID, they couldn't do much. They have bingo, and on Mondays they have someone come in, read scriptures to them, play a guitar, and sing some songs. It is very well kept. They also have elevators. I use a walker, and I'm on the second floor, so I definitely needed something that I could use to go from floor to floor. It's a nice place, and I would recommend it to others, but it's very expensive. Also the people here are about twenty years older than I am, so there's no one here around my age. We got our shots of vaccines very early, which was great. They have a TV screen, a pool table, a little gym, and a beauty salon. My room is a two-bedroom, and the laundry room is down the hallway, so I could take my laundry down there. My bathroom has a walk-in shower, and it has safety bars, too. For me, it's very spacious and very nice.

Many staff members a very nice, but it is inadequately staffed and lacks oversight. Mom has been there over 4 weeks; she's had two showers. after over two weeks and after she cried and begged them for a shower, they showered her once. They finally agreed to shower her more after she developed a rash over the back of her body. They had staff available to move her to a chair, but then left her there for hours, because they said that staff had left and they did not have the right people/enough people to move her back to bed. She'd been in the COVID quarantine ward for four weeks, although they were supposed to move her after two weeks. They said they would get mom her second shot for three or four weeks, but failed to do so until I told them I was going to start emailing and documenting this. Mom got a COVID shot the next day. All this during the period in which they had a staff member that tested positive for COVID and other staff with symptoms. Staff eventually will fix problems if you complain long enough. Mom is no longer getting therapy; we appealed this, but per Medicare, Good Samaritan has not submitted the appropriate paperwork for mom's care, so Medicare cannot process/move forward with our appeal. Unless you're visiting every single day, please do not leave your loved ones here.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The rooms were usually clean and well-kept, but the staff were often distant (physically and emotionally) and Agnes frequently complained about having to wait a half hour or more to use the restroom. The meals were always prompt and accommodated dietary requirements. I would not recommend this facility due to the consistent difficulty I had in locating a staff member to assist me. Agnes and the other residents she befriended also commented on how hard it was to get help; multiple times I was asked to make phone calls on Agnes' behalf because she did not trust the staff to follow through with them. I never saw any difference made in the staff attitudes even after frequently sending in complaints to their management.

I visited this facility

I volunteered at this facility years ago to provide additional companionship to the residents. This is a beautiful facility and would be my first choice should I need to place my mother in care someday. The grounds are meticulously maintained and beautiful. One aspect that really struck me during my visits was how beautiful the flowers and bushes were. Many residents enjoy going out and about in the spring and summer. They seemed to really enjoy the outdoors that is available to them right on the grounds. The indoors were just as well kept and pleasing to the eye as the outdoors. There's quite a home-like feel to this facility, which is always one of the goals of a facility such as this. Their staff were amazing people and genuinely seemed to care about the residents and their well-being. The staff members were there to address any concerns or ideas that the residents had. For example, a few residents thought it would be a great idea to have a craft group once a week. This was implemented into the schedule and the residents really seemed to have a lot of fun with it. They also engaged in Bingo night. Additionally, they had an exercise group that was open to all residents, accepting of limitations individuals might have. Also, they were able to have access to mental health services should they develop a need or an interest in such services. I also found it good that they had their own transportation buses that would take them wherever they needed to go. We had a really fun time riding around and viewing the beautiful displays of lights during the holiday season, which they do every year. I would recommend this facility highly!
