I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The management staff does not return calls or seem interested in residents. After my Mom died, they conveniently lost many belongings. They returned her 80+ year old rosary to me in a little jewelry plastic bag. When I later opened it, it was broken into 4 pieces. Someone put the pieces in a plastic bag and returned it to me without saying a word. Almost $10,000/month for this! What a joke.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Southwood Healthcare Center was the one my grandmother was in. She really liked it. In the beginning when she went there, she was really active in all the different things they had going on; but in the end when hospice was called in, I was able to stay there with her the whole time until she passed. They had church services. She just really liked it. It was just convenient for us being close. We all made sure that someone went and visited her every day. She enjoyed it. Then it ended up that her pastor from her church ended up there as well. Then people that I had worked with went there for rehab, so I knew other people. It was just great. I really like it. They had a big room that was like a circle where a lot of the residents sat, and they had birds in the middle. People would bring their kids. I took my grandkids over. The residents just loved seeing the kids. My daughter does Girl Scouts. She took her Girl Scouts there, and the Cub Scouts had gone there too. They're just so excited to see kids. I think with it being so close, it worked out well for us. The staff was always friendly. My grandmother had to sell her house to pay for it, but after she was there so long, she ran out of money, but she was able to apply for Medicaid. They were good to her. My grandmother had a roommate; but as her health deteriorated, they put her in a room by herself so that we could come and go and not disturb the other person. It was nice that we could all be in there. I stayed there the last week, day and night with her. When they came in to bathe her and stuff, I left the room. They were really good about telling me what to watch for like her respirations, and it was easier on me than just sitting there and watching her. They were really helpful, and they made it a lot easier on us. They were pretty much dead on when they told me that her end was near. I was able to get all my family there, except for my mom (who was in bad shape herself). It made it easier on all of this, knowing what to expect. She had a lot of good years there, and she really enjoyed it. The place was clean, nice, and secure. You had to be buzzed in. I really liked it. It always smelled clean. My grandma was picky with the food, but she up until the end did really well with the meal plan. She liked it, and it seemed like it was a pretty wide variety. The staff members were great. I also thought it was reasonable.

I am a friend or relative of resident

2015, in October, After moving our Dad from the horrid Westridge Facility after just one disgusting and shocking night, we called Kindred and requested information. Immediately they sent someone to review our Dad at the other facility and approved him for theirs. The amazing things that transpired after made our decision to move him into Kindred and trusting these people with our Dad. While their social worker was taking care of the paperwork and reviewing our father, we took a tour of the place. It was beautiful from the first step into the place. It smelled of fresh cut flowers to me, and although there were a few residents in the hallway center (where there was a beautiful feature of an enclosed glass bird cage with pretty little finches and tiny birds with nests and small trees inside all chirping happily away) These residents were not moaning and crying like the ones in Westridge that called out for the nurse standing next to them and were still ignored. No this place everyone had a smile on their faces and were alert and friendly. We greeted by the nursing staff who would be his nurses for that wing, All were kind and friendly. His room was clean or immaculate even. Had his own tv, and since he was new there they even let him have his room as private. It's been 3 months now, and it's still a private room so far. They showed us lots of activities from arts and crafts to singing and dancing, they have physical therapy rooms, a beautiful dining room which we are allowed to come and eat with him when we want, they have and do everything. They even have a billiard room with a pool table When Dad left the old facility, I called and asked if they could please have a wheel chair for him, and they had it waiting for him at the door with a nurse ready to greet him. The nurses were very patient as we discussed his medicines, and were all so friendly with dad. He loved and still loves it there. They even have a beauty shop where can have their hair done. The first night one nurse came in and combed dads hair, spoke so softly to him to help him feel less afraid, and she trimmed his nails both fingers and toes. she gently shaved him with his shaver and even cleaned it out for him. She sat with him for an hour just sitting with him to make him at ease. wow, After 3 months now, I have to say that we and Dad both really are happy about this place. I've heard a few people say they have their down times too, but we just haven't heard or seen it yet. Dad has even told us that he's happy there and hopes he never has to leave it. So I'm giving them a 5 star review. Oh and every time I call them, they are always quick to do or say what I need right away. Dad says they are quick at answering him too when he calls with the button, even if it's just to ask for some Ice cream any time he wants it. And finally they also have a resident Doctor that visits, and a respiratory specialist that's there every day. Nice hmm?
