I found this facility old and poorly maintained and staffed. None of the drinking fountains worked and the floors were stained. The medical staff seemed to be preoccupied with their cell phones and didn't respond to resident's questions. Many residents were just sitting by themselves in the hallways alone. There was a prevailing smell of urine in the halls.
I saw food stained shirts and faces. Residents sitting at old breakfast plates at 11:30 am.
I witnessed a insulin shot given in the belly to a resident right in front of me with no concern for privacy or dignity of the resident.
I was in tears at the end of my tour and the employee guide just said, "That' geriatrics in America". I chose home care service for my mother instead of putting her in this facility. I was truly astonished at the low level of care given to the residents. I can not recommend this facility.

DONT DO IT!! If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. Unprofessional staff that won’t call back or fill out forms for the family. Understaffed especially in the evening which puts all our loved ones at risk, nursing staff changes undergarments but DO NOT wash skin. My father had a urine rash all over when we brought him home because he wasn’t washed when changed and I know on two occasions I had to ask the nursing staff to give him a shower because he smelled so bad. Also had to listen to the nurses complain to me about how much work my dad was (after a stroke!). Everyone from Heather (the CCC) on down is awful and ACT like they care in front of you but when you need something...NOTHING!! We cringed every time we left dad. Do your loved one a favor and tale them ANYWHERE else!!!

We chose SAHC based on positive word-of-mouth reports and for its Catholic identity. As we had heard, the nursing staff were indeed kind, gentle and loving in their interactions with patients. However, gentle speech by nurses alone is not enough to restore a patient to pre-hospitalization functioning Diligent attention from a motivated multi-disciplinary team is necessary, Staff motivation for the hard work of genuine recovery during a rehab stay seemed lacking. The patient had been ambulatory with a walker while in the hospital, but immediately upon entering the facility, the walker was taken away and the patient was put in a wheelchair. SAHC's physical therapy mostly consisted of teaching the patient to scoot in the wheelchair by shuffling the feet! Too often physical therapy sessions were cancelled based on "resident refusal," No consideration was given to the diagnosis of dementia and how that disease impacts patient assent to therapy! The patient was allowed to wallow in bed all day and all evening on several occasions. There were also issues regarding a lack of care for the resident's personal belongings. There was insufficient physical progress (per Medicare) during the rehab stay, so it was recommended to the family that the patient stay for more time to "recover." That didn't happen, but the family did pay a HEFTY sum (thousands of dollars!) for the privilege of watching their loved one waste away, scooting around in a wheelchair.

Sanctuary at Holy Cross was clean and spacious. They have television, and there is a single room. It was pretty much whatever you want it. But sometimes it will take them a little while to respond to a patient’s immediate assistance.

My wife is in a nursing home called Sanctuary at Holy Cross with pneumonia right now, and she is bedridden. She has gangrene of the foot, and she is recovering from a broken hip. It's a nice place, but it's like every other nursing home in the world. It is understaffed, and this facility is the least of the bad choice. The rooms are double rooms and small, but clean, and the food is fine.

My mom had gone to Holy Cross a couple of times for rehabilitation. They're connected to St. Joseph's Hospital. It was a new facility. Everything was very good. This nursing home did a very good job for my mom. My mom had occupational therapy and physical therapy while she was there at both times. She had these therapies so that she could return back to her apartment. At that time, she had a very nice private room. There were plenty of spaces there too. I also tried eating there and the food was quite good. What I like best about this facility was the staff. They were very helpful and I was absolutely satisfied with their care. I would recommend this nursing home.
