The Wellington at Southport was lovely. The courtyard was very nice for people to sit in. It was an inside building courtyard for non-smokers or smokers, it was gapped out so no one was together. It had a nice big porch area that was covered with rocking chairs. So, it gave them that feeling of home inside. They can walk out of their apartment and come outside and sit in that courtyard. There were flowers, rocks, and bird feeders out there. It was very nice. They also had a barber shop, but another thing that appealed to me was they had a social hour. I thought it was kind of neat. They get to have little cocktails at the facility for those who are allowed for medical reasons. They went to the state fair and they just had a carnival there in the parking lot that residents were allowed to bring family members in. So, it was nice on that part. They did a lot of activities offsite and onsite. They took the men and the women fishing. The woman that runs the activities does a lot and she keeps them busy. It's a very secure building. They still check people's temperature when you go in. It's like you walk in, you sign in, and you get a little sticker badge to identify who you are. They had onsite physical therapy. They had a lot. You only really had to leave just to go out.

My sister and I toured with Karyn. The facility was clean and pleasant. Kathyrn as well informed about the facility. We felt because of our mother's mobility issues she wouldn't be a good candidate for care at that facility.

My father has been at The Wellington at Southport for two years now. The staff does a good job at meeting the residents where they are and interacting with them. If there is a negative, I think the food could probably kick it up a notch or two, but that can be said for a lot of places. Overall, the facility is good. They have daily activities. They have movies, excursions, they take them to the stores, and they went to the fair this year. They get them out and around, and there are games and crafts. The food is fine. It's not that it's absolutely horrible. It is not easy to cook for a larger number of people with all the dietary needs. One person thinks it's very tasty, someone else thinks it's bland. It's a delicate balance, but I think overall, it's just fine, but I think it could go up a notch or two. There aren't a lot of amenities here, but my dad doesn't need a lot of amenities. This facility is really good for my father, but it would not work for my mother. It's not for everyone, but then again, no place is for everyone. For him, I guess it's a good value. Nobody is perfect and no facility is perfect. My own home would not be perfect if dad were here. They truly address issues quite well. I don't have any complaints. The staff is very friendly. I noticed that the staff kind of shifts some, but I think every place of employment is having staff issues now. Overall, I'm very pleased. If I had any serious complaints, he wouldn't be there and I'm not one that would call and complain about it, I would just simply move him. It fits his personality.

I liked everything about The Wellington at Southport. The rooms were nice. The area is secured. Everybody's friendly, but they have no rooms right now. The rooms were clean and nicely organized. Everything looked good. I looked at the memory ward and it was separate from the others. The staff during the tour was very good, and answered all of our questions. She even came up with stuff I didn't even think about. She was very helpful. Everything was clean, well organized, and nicely laid out. They had a courtyard, a barbershop, laundry services, they have their own physical therapy there, and they have therapy animals come in.

The Wellington at Southport was all very nice, except for the size of the room. It was too small for us, but it's nice and well-kept. The lady who toured us was very thorough and very nice too. They have a crafts room, game room, movie nights, bingo, a large dining room, and quite a few other things.

I went on a tour at The Wellington at Southport. The staff was nice. They were cleaning some carpets, so they had a fan going that was loud at the front desk; the staff apologized. We took a tour of the building. There's nothing open in memory care, which is what I'm going to need. She took me to an empty room and showed me what that looked like; it was nice. It's close enough to the house, but there's still places closer than that to me. I simply don't have the time to look at them right now, not this week. They showed me one room, which was being remodeled. It really wasn't the way it's going to look in the end, but there were wooden floors, which is good for old folks. I went to see assisted living or memory care, depending on how it was set up. The staff who accommodated me was very nice. We've talked before on the phone. They were going to have a microwave, a refrigerator, and a small sink in the room, which would be nice. I don't think Mom knows how to use the microwave, but we could do popcorn with her when we come over in the evening. She could keep her pop in the refrigerator. It was all in one room, like a studio. It has a walk-in shower (which old folks need) and then a seat to sit on if she needed. Right now, she doesn't. Somebody has to assist her with the shower. The room I looked at had a nice view, and we would be able to put a bird feeder or something there. Their memory care is full, and they have people waiting in assisted living to go to memory care. Everybody was nice and polite. I didn't get to go into memory care unit, and I don't think my mom would be OK in assisted living because the hallways were too long. It is not accommodating for my mother because she got Alzheimer's.
