I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is at Alden Park Strathmoor. The care has been good. The people seem like they care a lot for her, and they know what they're doing. It's also a Catholic home, so I feel like that brings my mom back to her roots a little bit. I don't know if there's anything that I don't like. I don't like that she's there, but she's been fine since she's been there. Just like in any place, some of the staff is great and some I don't really care for. Overall, I feel like they're generally helpful and caring. They seem like they care about my mom and are sincere and keep in contact with me and let me know what's going on with her. I think the food looks disgusting, but she doesn't talk about it because she can't. They do activities every day with the patients. They always have activities for them. They have exercises, like where they throw a ball around, they dance to music, and stuff like that.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is currently here and in the dementia locked unit. Not that it's OK, but ALL nursing homes are understaffed. Period. My dad is happier here than he was at a different nursing home. He has constant activities keeping him moving around. We take him our for lunch, visiting family, etc. any time we want. I feel that he is very taken care of here and I have seen other nursing homes. Staff reduced the hallucination drugs he was taking. He's made an improvement coming here. I understand why now whey nursing homes get a bad wrap, its a difficult job and I tried taking care of my dad at home. You are their best advocate, ask questions, drop in unannounced.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I didn't like Alden Park Strathmoor. It's very small for the care that my mother needed, and they always seem to be understaffed. It seems like the nurses have their hands full there all the time.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Alzhiemer / Dementia unit is a 34 bed locked unit. Basically the residents have ONE hall to walk up and down daily. There is a fenced in patio area off the dining room, but the residents are not allowed to go outside to enjoy the fresh air unless the activity person takes them outside for a few activities. The only other access to the outside is when a family member requests they unlock the door and let them take their family member outside. We seldom see staff when visiting unless it is during meal time. Meals do not look very appealing at times. During some visits I have noticed the dining room is also closed off, so the residents in wheelchairs are parked up and down the hallway, while the others walk up and down the hallway. There is little to none interaction between staff and the residents. It seems to be their solution to send a resident out for evaluation and place them on more drugs to keep them under control. In my opinion the residents feel as if they are caged in this one hallway, with no where to go.
