Our residents will be between 65-95. Average age will be late 70s, early 80s. Their favorite 'things to do' will hopefully be life long learning, and truly embracing becoming self-determining decision makers.
What programs or activities does The Heathers Senior Homes offer to enrich residents' well-being?
We refer to 'activities' or 'engagements' more as what they actually are, gardening, walking, yoga, dancing, arts, life-long learning. Since our residents are self-governed, it up to us to facilitate what they're interested in doing.
What places are near The Heathers Senior Homes or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
We have a Yoga Studio and Dance Studio within walking distance. We also have paved walking paths of different surfaces to assist with balance and agility. We are close to parks and a local marsh; and with our van, we can accommodate many different destinations.

We do have a van.
What makes the chef or dining program at The Heathers Senior Homes exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Nutritional, well balanced and delicious. Again, our philosophy is that of self-determination; so we will adapt our menus to the liking of our residents; as well as have the typical 'take-out' night.

Our outdoor areas are secured, and our entrances are also secured. Additionally, we are using advanced technology related to Alexa and safety pendants.
How does The Heathers Senior Homes keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
Through CareMerge, we are able to communicate 'real time' situations to family members.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at The Heathers Senior Homes during daytime and nighttime hours?
We do not operate on a ratio concept. Our care is never more than 30 steps away from a resident; regardless of time of day.
If The Heathers Senior Homes accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
At this time, we do not accept dogs or cats. However, family members can bring them to visit and our outdoor areas include grass for their enjoyment.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
All of our onboarding as well as ongoing training is in compliance with Section 295 of the Illiniois Department of Public Health regulations. This means that each care partner and staff member receive greater than 32 hours initial training, plus a hour each month. Additionally, we subscribe to a best practice of having ALL staff trained in CPR as opposed to the required 'one per shift.'
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We have care partners present 24/7 throughout the day and evening, and awake staff overnight. Each house will have at least four staffers during the day and one over night.
What safety features or security measures does The Heathers Senior Homes provide to protect residents who wander?
Those residents that wander will be secure because of our secured environment. Additionally, families can provide a wander guard.
What programs or activities does The Heathers Senior Homes offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our care partners are trained in dementia care and have specific training on the Validation Method as well as the Positive Approach to Care of Teepa Snow.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
All residents, regardless of assisted living or memory care require an initial physician assessment for both health and cognitive functioning. The assessment is conducted quarterly, or sooner if there is a change of condition or unscheduled hospitalization.
What techniques does The Heathers Senior Homes use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Our residents are individuals and if their mealtimes need staff support, it will be conducted in the kindest, most dignified way possible. Food can be pre-cut prior to presentation, plate guards can be added, larger utensils can be provided.

Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital would be considered our 911 hospital; however, we also have a Medical Director who is supported by our Telemedicine program.
