My sister-in-law is at The Sheridan at Tyler Creek. I've had two family members that have lived there. My mother-in-law was in there from 2016 until 2021 and passed away in there. Her daughter is on a memory unit on the third floor. The sad situation is there's one CNA to 16 patients. There are two different wings. There's a total of four CNAs on the whole unit. My sister-in-law doesn't get a lot of brain stimulation or activities. Usually when we go visit her, she's sleeping or laying down. It's not a facility that I would put a memory patient. It's very understaffed, so that creates a really big issue. In memory care, you have to be attentive to them and help them every day. With limited amount of staff, getting them in and out of the clothes, getting them to brush their hair, brush their teeth, it's an all day process; there's just not enough care for her. The whole facility is just not a good facility. She's in a shared suite, so she and her roommate have their own bedroom. They share a double sink and a bathroom. The rooms are nice. They're average (nothing fancy), but sufficient. Sometimes, they'll paint the ladies' nails in the dining area. They'll do trivia with them. Sometimes they'll watch programs of people singing in the lower level. As for challenging her mind or anything like that, that's not done. I don't think it's done for a lot of people there. Sometimes I'd see all of them just coloring and talking. I've actually been there where there have been no CNAs, and I had to intervene with two people who have bad memory almost fist fighting. The dining area is nice, but the food is average. What's kind of nice is even though they're confused, they will ask each one of them what they would like to eat; they have options. They're overworked, but they're trying the best they can. They're not mean to anybody there. They're not bad people that work there.

The Sheridan at Tyler Creek is the closest to where I live from a convenience perspective, but it's the most expensive. I've been there to visit people who used to live in my neighborhood who now live there. So I have a tour. I saw the facility, and then I had a conversation with the placement person. I was able to go up to the assisted living apartment. It's relatively new, but it's very well maintained. They had protocols and procedures in place when we went in to make sure we signed them and we had our masks on for COVID prevention. There's a nice public area for people to socialize in, and on each floor on the landing, as you come out of the elevator, there's a little reading area, little shelves with books, that people could walk from their apartments just down to the elevator to pick up a book to take back to their rooms. When we visited our friend, we were very impressed with how big her apartment was. It was only one bedroom, but she had a very large bedroom and had access from both her bedroom and the entryway into the apartment, into the bathroom, so she had multiple accesses into the bathroom. The bathroom was very big and generous. If she were in a wheelchair, you could handle her access in that room. It had a small kitchenette, a full-sized refrigerator, and it was a nice space. The staff that I met were very friendly, and the one thing about it when I called them back to see more detail about the benefits that they had for mom, they are pet friendly and that's one of my criteria for my mom, is a pet-friendly place because she has a puppy that she will not be able to be without. I observed that there was a table with a jigsaw puzzle and people were working on the puzzle. There were people in the lobby just talking and in another location where people were watching television.

My mom was a resident of The Sheridan at Tyler Creek. They were understaffed, undertrained, under-qualified, and overmedicating. It's not a good situation over there. They're nice when you first move in. Then as far as your memory care disease progresses, they don't want to deal with you. They just like their patients to be sedated. They could improve on training to learn how to deal with a person with dementia. Also, with communication with their actual doctors who prescribed medicines, and when their medicines are doing way too much. They overmedicated my mother and didn't even let the doctor know. Some of the staff were good and some weren't, so it's hard to say who they were. Some nurses were good, some of their CNAs were terrible. The cleaning lady gave my mother more attention than the CNAs did. If she didn't wake up in the morning, they said they saved her food. But I don't think she got it because she lost so much weight. They sit and eat, and watch television all on like diner chairs. It's not homey, not welcoming at all. It's like they would watch television in a hospital cafeteria, that is basically what it was like. The facility is clean, I know they do spray scents and stuff around for when it's smelly. All their activities are done in one room, television, socializing. It's a diner. For activities, Amber did a good job.

The Sheridan at Tyler Creek was very clean. The staff was very friendly. We were able to see just about every place that we would want (i.e., the dining and the movie theater). There wasn't much activity going on at the time. I believe the folks were all still in their rooms. It seemed very homey and very welcoming. We were impressed. We saw the assisted living apartment area, but it's very possible in the next six months or so that mom will be moving into the memory care; so we saw both. The staff was wonderful and very informative. I could tell that she enjoyed what she was doing. She shared with us that she had been working and volunteering in communities like this since she was 12 years old. It's pretty much been her life. I was very impressed by her, her knowledge, and her warmth. I also liked the way she spoke to my mom and ask questions. We were very comfortable with her. The rooms were very nice, much roomier than I had expected. We went into the one-bedroom apartment and the studio as well. I thought they were both quite adequate for a resident living there. I was very impressed. It was very clean and very homey. I could see setting my mom up in there.

The Sheridan at Tyler Creek was OK. The apartments were OK. The place was just a little smaller than where my dad is. The particular apartment that he was going to be assigned to did not have enough natural light, but it was clean and nice. The staff was very good. I know they had a dining hall, an exercise room, and a courtyard.

My mom is now a resident of The Sheridan at Tyler Creek. Our overall experience so far, including the staff, has been pretty good. Her room is an apartment and it's quite nice. They have a room with a couple of equipment pieces in it, but it's not a real gym. They have a nice dining room, they have a big opening space in the entryway, but I'd say they don't have a lot of overall space. They have about five activities for the residents every day. The location is in town and they have transportation. My mother and the residents like the food, it's decent, and even my brother loves it.
