Thank you for setting up the outdoor visits.
They have been wonderful for our family. A BIG SHOUTOUT to Katie and the ACTIVITIES staff.
I was hoping for a Birches Resident and Family 4th of July barbecue that would be the opening day for families to get back together. But that was not to be.
However, I was able to talk with some of the Birches families over the holiday. It was nice to touch base and get caught up. We all miss our loved ones so desperately.
One of the families mentioned a new Housekeeping Policy.
Your weekly updates during the pandemic have been great and I told them I did not remember seeing a Housekeeping Policy update.
They sent me a picture of the policy and told me to ask my mother.
I asked her and she said her apartment has been cleaned maybe twice in the past month or so. That means her toilet has been cleaned maybe twice in the past month or so.
DISGUSTING!
The new policy says:
Greetings Good Residents of the Birches! Some News!
I am sure everyone is aware we are once again short a housekeeper. …
Christina has suggested she alternate between the second and third floors on a weekly basis. I think this is a great idea. …
We hope to have another housekeeper soon. …
Thank you for your generous patience and if there are any questions I can answer, please let me know.
Roland From Maintenance
Roland, I have a question for you.
Did Marybeth tell me that my mother’s apartment may or may not be cleaned each week?
I do not think so.
I think she said apartments are cleaned weekly.

What makes the Birches stand out against other communities?
The Residents and their Families.
With Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s, we get to meet so many residents and their families. Everyone is no nice. We share stories, good and bad, we laugh and we cry.
It is a shame that these family gatherings (holiday lunch or brunch) are so few and far between, and to put it mildly, so expensive given what we’re paying in rent.
So, we've come up with an idea.
For Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day have a FREE barbecue for families. All you need is burgers, brats, hot dogs, and chicken.
A BIG SHOUTOUT to the FRONT DESK staff and the DINING ROOM and KITCHEN staff. Everyone agreed the brunch was GREAT and they are GREAT.
Additionally, most families agreed, we don’t know management. Management is not here on weekends or evenings or on the holidays. We'd like management to know us and for us to know management.

My mother has been in the Encore memory area of the Birches for almost a year. The place is so clean, and the staff is so loving and caring. I see her very frequently and she is almost always occupied with activities in the company of other residents and staff. Sometimes she is enjoying the activity so much, that instead of going out, she wants me to join her. My mother was unhappy in her previous place, and it give me such peace to see how happy she is at the Birches.

The Birches Assisted Living was absolutely ideal and lovely. The rooms were immaculate, and you can choose from a 1 or 2 bedroom. I was very impressed with the entire place.

I am/was a resident of this facility
We started looking for a retirement home in the Summer of 2015, and investigated several local Assisted Living communities. We chose THE BIRCHES for several reasons, including the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff and the residents, the many services provided by THE BIRCHES, including three meals a day, weekly maid service, and many other smaller services. We moved in in Aug 2015, and have been pleased with our selection every day since. We encourage anyone in a position like us to take a look at THE BIRCHES.

I saw The Birches Assisted Living with both of my parents, and they liked it a lot. It was very impressive visually -- crown molding, very clean, very well-cared-for. We were there unannounced on a Saturday, so we didn’t get an official tour, but the head chef took us around. I actually liked that. I didn’t feel like I was getting the sales pitch and was just getting shown around, so it was nice from that perspective.
We interacted with some of the staff and some of the people; they all seemed very pleasant. They did have a calendar of activities. They have Trivial Pursuit or Scrabble or board games. They have a little nook of an area, probably 12-by-12, where they have a couple of pieces of equipment, and they have a personal trainer that will come in and do some physical therapy with people. It was good that they had something but it was not impressive. They should have a larger area for that and more physical activity available for every one.
The menu at The Birches was very impressive, very restaurant-like. They would have three or four main entrèes, side dishes, and your standard spare stuff like a baked chicken. We did see a couple of the rooms; they were very nice. They had nice oversized bathrooms so that you could get a wheelchair or a walker in there easily and maneuver. Ceramic floors and ceramic tile walls in the showers, so quality-wise, the bathrooms are very nice. Their hallways are excessively wide, so you can have two or three wheelchairs in that hallway at one time and wouldn’t feel crowded.

I am a friend or relative of a resident
It’s been four months since mom has been at the Birches Assisted Living. I like that they keep me informed of what is going on if she falls or has problems. Their staff is friendly, and the nurses are attentive to their needs. They do have different activities like they go on field trips, musical entertainment comes in, and physical therapy. The facility is well kept up. It smells and looks good. They keep everything clean and well organized.

We received many recommendations to the Birches from friends and professionals. Not a day passes that we are not so happy. Frank, my father-in-law is the resident there. Everyone we encounter couldn't be more pleasant and accommodating. When Frank's mood seemed to decline, they observed and made arrangements to have him moved to a more stress-free environment. The staff has been overwhelmingly helpful and made him extremely comfortable. Jackie, Carol, Tammy are just a few people that have made this transition easier. We would recommend the Birches to everyone.

I am a past client of this provider
At the time my mom was at The Birches, I was living nearby and a lot of our relatives also were near, so mom had a lot of visitors. It was a very small, quaint facility. They do a lot of activities and they have a lot of field trips that mom enjoyed. They only serve two meals a day, lunch and dinner and the food was very good. Mom was a very outgoing individual and she made a lot of friends there. Although there were some communication problems when she was there. A couple of times she had fallen and I wasn't informed. It was also expensive. They charge you for everything. She loved the staff and when she passed, a lot of them came and paid their respects. She was there for six years.

I am a friend or relative of resident
I have a relative at Birches, and they have really done well here. While their condition as expected is declining over time, they are more active and alert than at their previous facility. Am able to always reach my relative with Birches assistance and we're glad we made the change to this facility.

While searching for a place for our aunt to live, we decided to take a look at Birches Assisted Living, since it was conveniently located. Our aunt - and some family members have lived in the vicinity all of their lives.
We were really impressed with how well the grounds were kept and how nice and accommodating the staff were.
The communal areas all seemed to have a nice level of energy and participation. We could see that our aunt would get along well here. Aside from the many activities scheduled both inside and out of the facility, they also have a salon and chapel.
The residents are regularly encouraged to participate in a variety of activities, from exercise classes, to creating artwork, play group games and sign up to take trips into the city for all kinds of fun outings.
The facility offers a variety of living arrangements to choose from. For example, there are 2 studio plans and units up to 2 bedrooms. All of the units we saw had nice decors, fresh air and light.
They are a full-service assisted living facility - with regular meals, snacks, housekeeping, nursing care with a wellness care program, and personal care, as necessary.
The dining room, activity rooms and lounges were all nicely decorated. The menu featured many appetizing food choices. They also offer private room service if desired.
We saw residents playing games, watching television and reading, while some were in the computer room or media room watching movies.
Based upon what we saw, we consider Birches Assisted Living a very nice place for seniors to reside.
Memory Care Reviews for The Birches Assisted Living
October 31, 2019
I visited this facility
The Birches Assisted Living had both assisted living and memory care. The memory care place was a smaller area, but it seemed very good. They had activities going on while I was there. The place was luxurious and very beautiful. The food was excellent. The memory care was quite expensive. The staff who took me on the tour was excellent. The rooms were a bit smaller than others I've seen. They have a waiting list, and if you can afford it, it's a very nice place, especially for the assisted living. The memory care area had a nice outside area. However, the luxuriousness of the building itself and the excellent food, when you're in memory care, gets to the point where it really doesn't make any difference, so you will be paying something that would not be appreciated by the resident. I would highly recommend it for assisted living. For memory care, I would be a little bit less enthusiastic about it.
