I visited this facility

Pioneer Gardens looked interesting. When we first stepped in, it looked welcoming and promising. It was very nice. My mother was looking forward to moving into that place. The rooms would be furnished, and everything was nice. Miss Harris was extremely professional. We enjoyed talking to her. The food was good. They had an occasion, so we ate there and we enjoyed it a lot. There was a balcony on the second floor that goes around the whole building. They had a TV room, and we went to several areas where things were going on for the residents.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother is in Pioneer Gardens, and he's in his second month there. We are elated. It's wonderful. We appreciate them. We love them and the accommodations. He's so happy. He was so sad before, and we were so worried. We were scared. I'm like, "My brother's going to be homeless." However, they accepted him. We're just overwhelmed with happiness. He said that everyone is just wonderful and attentive. Everybody is working with him. They give him his medicine. They will give him a ride to the doctor and pick him up from the doctor. He said the food is delicious. They are very clean. They even come in and clean his room for him once a week. They do his laundry for him. They have a place where he can go to buy a soda or something, if he has any little money left after paying from Social Security. It's just wonderful. He just likes sitting outside, and he'll stand on his balcony. He is not involved in any activities. If you have a low income, you have a place that is very clean.

I visited this facility

The place seemed clean, and everything was tidy when we toured Pioneer Gardens. There was no odor or anything pleasant about that we can see. The staff is friendly; we got a nice tour from the director and talked about the programs and details of how they would care for my mom. What impressed me is it sounded as though they were very concerned about making sure that she was kept busy and attended to as often as possible. They have accommodations for people who have memory difficulty. They serve meals and take care of laundry. They arrange transportations for doctors’ visits, and also make sure that the residents’ medications are taken in a timely manner.

I visited this facility

I just received a review of the building. None of the staff showed us around. It was kind of old and run down. They used a old lady with a bad back and cane. When asked do they have roaches the Sales and Marketing lady got smart and said no, that they spray every other day. What a liar! I don't trust anything that she says!

Pioneer Gardens was a big disappointment because the lady that showed me around was very unprofessional. The dining area was not clean.

I am a friend or relative of resident

This is of the worse facilities in IL. My parent was there and he experienced mental and verbal abuse from most of the staff members. The food is not healthy or tasty for the residence before and after the head chef change. Management allows the staff the run of the facility and are not concerned with the health and welfare of the residence. If you love your relative this is not a good place for them to be.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My parents chose Pioneer Gardens because they have relatives in Chicago who can easily go and see them. I have been there several times visiting them and I think it's a good environment for them to be in at this point in time. The staff are helpful. The facility is a fairly new building and it's very nice. Overall, it has been good.

I visited this facility

In reviewing the facility, I saw the apartment with a balcony and kitchen. The common dining room was lovely. Residents were gathered at the nursing station for their medication. So apparently their was adequate cares available, these did include help with getting up and going to bed if necessary. These would have been necessary for the woman I was making arrangements for.
