I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Care staff is nice but RN support is understaffed. Not prepared to care for a patient with acute illness. Doctor visits once a week. Hospital recommended this facility because they said they would transport to chemo and dialysis...the transport coordinator is super, but they transported the patient to a dialysis center downtown when there is a dialysis cent er 2 blocks away....assume some sort of graft or collusion with the dialysis center downtown. Poor after hours care. In some cases unsanitary handling of patient by staff. I would try anywhere else before coming here. In hind sight, wish home care had been an option but hospital case handlers didn't think that would work in this case at this time. Best scenario for this patient would have been to stay in the hospital. Executive staff never said hello once or even made eye contact. Poor rapport. This patient had to be readmitted to the hospital. I have to admit, it is very difficult to visit a facility before actually staying there and get any feel how competent they are......this facility and understaffed staff were not competent enough.

I don't recommend this place for anyone. It is an older facility and it has many deficiencies. There isn't always warm water to wash up in the sinks in each of the rooms. There's a constant smell on one side of the building. No matter what they do they can never cover that smell up. They really don't know how to clean. The floors are always dirty. You don't want them doing laundry unless you're okay with them losing the laundry and it ending up the donation pile. The food is not that great. You'll be lucky that the food is served on time, but more often than not it's always served late. It's rare that the food is even served warm. They serve pretty much the same meals every week. Most of the nursing staff is pretty good, but there are some that just don't care about their jobs or the care they provide. Don't expect them to care if you stay or go! If you're leaving, they'll be quick to get you out of the room. Whatever you do, don't expect to get your money back if you leave before the end of the month! If you pay for the whole month, they will keep the balance if you leave before the month is up. They're trying to cater to the private payors, so expect to be sharing a room if you have Medicaid. The private rooms are for private insurance, Medicare, or people paying out of their own pocket. Basically, just look elsewhere. There are better places than Life Care Center of Boise.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother stayed in Life Care for rehab, and I wasn't that impressed with it at all. It wasn't clean for one thing. I had to tell them when her bed needed to be changed. The people were nice enough, but I felt like I had to go to them. It didn't feel like they were really on top of it. In the dining room, the tablecloths weren't changed enough and maybe the people were sloppier. But I loved their physical therapy department; they were wonderful. There definitely were things I liked, there were people on the staff that I really, really liked, but the nursing staff that came in and cared for her, I was not impressed with. The girl who helped me with the insurance, I liked her a lot. I just thought that the nursing staff was not as conscientious.

I visited this facility

About 6 months ago I taught a middle school leadership class. I had the child write cards and pick flowers to bring the residents of the Life Care Center of Boise. When we arrived the facility appeared top-notch. The Children were nervous at first but once they started talking to the amazing residents they really started having a great time. A few of the residents started crying because they were so happy to have a visitor and someone to talk to. All in all it was an amazing experience for the students, the residents, and me as well. I absolutely recommend the Life Care Center of Boise, to care for your loved ones.

I visited this facility

I thought the staff of this facility seemed very informed and the nurses were very nice to the patients, despite some of the patients obvious problems. The secretary's were even nice to me and my other classmates. The facility seemed very equipped to handle nursing home activities and emergencies. They offered a "red alert" system just in case a patient was in dire need of help or resuscitation. The halls were wide enough for two or three wheelchairs (the main mode of transportation there) to go side by side down the hall. There was a huge cafeteria at Life Care as well as a large "play room" that the citizens could hang out in. I know I said that the nurses were very nice but there were a few that seemed a little mean or to have a bad attitude. Oh well, I guess there's a few at every facility. The front lobby was being remodeled and the smell of paint was overwhelming in the front. Patients were allowed to hang out in the hallways and lobbies as they pleased. Some of them couldn't even get up out of their bads which was sad. The lighting in there was sort of dim so it had a dreary feel.

I am a past client of this provider

My Mom was in this facility for a month after a hospitalization. The "hands-on" employees were caring and considerate, but the facility was drastically understaffed. While "shopping" for a nursing/rehabilitation facility, this one was suggested bu the hospital. Overpromised and underdelivered sre 2 words that come to mind for this facility. Basically, the patients were fed and rolled back to their room to sit alone, with the exception of a 20 minute physical therapy session every other day. The "management was most definitely NOT hands on! This was a few years ago and I can't imagine that this place is any better. It's costly, but I found that in-home care is far and away the best alternative in our case.
