So far, Ilima at Leihano has been wonderful. Aside from providing the bed and a few this and that, they gave my husband a free TV, a dining table, and a couple of chairs. I need to provide some more furniture though. He needs a nightstand or something, but they're very helpful and very friendly. He's working with his primary care physician to get physical therapy so he can try to get out of the assisted living section. Other than that, he's doing pretty well and so far I don't have any complaints. They're very competent. The food seems average. They feed him healthy food. He complained about how bland it is, but other than that, he's eating three meals a day and seems to be enjoying them, and it's a facility where they can't add salt because seasoning is unhealthy for a lot of people. So, they're being very careful about that. Unfortunately, that makes it rather tasteless, but it is visually attractive and they do their best given the limitations of the circumstances. They bring it to his room so he doesn't have to go down to the dining room. His only complaint was that the dining room was too cold for him. The facility is gorgeous.

The least I like about Ilima at Leihano is the cost. They had a salon, a nice big courtyard, and a swimming pool. They offer activities throughout the day. The salesperson was very thorough and answered all my questions. The facility was really clean. There are restaurants and parks nearby. What I liked about this place, which was a selling point, was that they allowed pets.

Ilima at Leihano looked like they were doing a good job. I liked the leadership philosophy. They're good. I felt they had the right attitude. The staff was friendly, they were all smiling. I can see that their staff was happily working there. One of the residents came up to me and said that it was a great place. The rooms were nice. The place was nicely decorated. It felt warm. Everybody was gathered in the dining room, and it felt like they were all content and happy there. I had a crab salad and water, and it was good and well-prepared. They had outdoor spaces, but they didn't stand out to me in any way.

I have visited Ilima at Leihano. It was all on one level and all on the ground level for the memory care placement, so that is good. I don't like it when they're housed up in a building on the floor way up above, and they're all looking down on something. I find that very isolating for people. Maybe if they're well into their dementia stage, and they don't pay attention, that could very well be, but for somebody that's still got their act together a little bit, it's not so nice. The young lady that we had a connection with was extremely nice. It was very quiet. It's kind of far-reaching. It's not a comfortable distance from where we live because we're at the other end of the island. For daily visitation, it would be a major event, which was the major downfall. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, and very upbeat. She had a very upbeat personality.

I toured Ilima at Leihano. It just felt comfortable. It was low-key and very clean. People are very personable, I could kind of picture my mom being there. The staff is nice, she explained everything. She was so thorough, to the point where we didn't have any questions. She answered everything, and took us around to all the different floors, showing us what they have to offer. She took us to a unit that would be close to what my mom will get to stay in. She also showed us everything, the outside, the inside, their dining room, activity room, exercise room, and their swimming pool. We didn't stay for lunch. She said maybe you can try and bring your mom because we haven't discussed it with her; that was good. She gave me suggestions about how to go about bringing it up, or what they had to do with other residents. There was even a lady there, a resident; to get her there, they told her it was a senior hotel because she had dementia. They said she still thinks it's a senior hotel, but she loves it there. She was trying to give me little tips on how to ease my mom in, said to bring her for lunch, and let her see what it's like. They have a member there that has been a resident since day one with them, and she's like their ambassador. I guess, whoever is new coming in, she'll take them around, have lunch with them; my mom would like that. My mom needs to socialize constantly, that's how she is. I can see her going to that place. They had an outdoor area. Families can reserve the area to have a small get-together with the residents, it was nice. She says a lot of times people have their lunch out there too. They have a perimeter. What I was impressed with is that each resident has a pendant that they wear, like life alert. It's just for their residents in that area, it'll still work if they walk outside. If they fall or something, they can press the button, and everyone in the building will be notified. That's pretty neat. If she's sitting in the room, they can press it too. I didn't know they would have something like that.

Ilima at Leihano was nice because it's newer. It was just built. The assisted side is totally separate from the other side because they have all the kind of people that live there that don't really need care. They can just live there, but they can move around. The walkways were big, and the rooms were big. When you enter the room, they got like a big glass and each person can put mementos inside the glass, so you know whose room it is. Each person had that right in front of their door. They had their mother, father, and kids' pictures in there, and whatever's important to them. I thought that was awesome. Everything was on that side including the food. It was separate and it was nice. It had its own garden. You could go outside, plant, sit in the sun, and walk around. They actually took the seniors on tours, and they walked them. That place was good. The staff was awesome. Because it's a separate side, they have more than enough nurses to cover. The activities were awesome. They did almost everything like bingo, games, and exercises. We really wanted this place, but there's a waiting list. We would have to wait until somebody came off that list. It was our first choice, but the lady said it would take months, and we really couldn't wait that long. If they had an opening there, my father would be there now. The staff was awesome. You got the kitchen and everything there, and they pretty much serve the food that you want to eat. They talk to you and they ask what your loved one likes to eat. They don't really give them food that they don't like to eat. It was pretty good over there. Overall, that's the best. The hallways were huge for people to move around. They won't bump each other. The rooms were nice, and how they just got them set up was awesome in there. It would've been perfect for us, but they don't have enough rooms in the assisted side. The waiting list for the men was too long.
