I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law is at the Resorts at Pooler (Formerly The Place at Pooler). She's been there on and off already for rehab. This is a place that she already was comfortable with because she knew the nurses. I have not been in it since she has been in the nursing home. I don't know how it's changed with the new management. I can't really see any of the changes or what the inside of the room looks like except through the window. She is complaining about everything because she doesn't want to be there, but when I looked through the window, it looks clean, it looks like they were putting new beds in there, and it looks like they already had put new flooring down, so to me it looked pretty nice. Now that she is in the nursing home, they call every three months. We were used to getting a little bit more of a frequent call, but they said that was because of rehab. There are different apartments that I like more than others. I'm not crazy about the business office. They never call me back, but every time I called to speak to the social worker, she lays time aside and talks to me in length, and she's very good. They don't have anything outdoors really. They set up a little visitors' area, but it didn't look like it went off very well. I don't know if it's even still on the building. They were trying to let people visit, but yet they still really weren't able to be outside social distancing. The only one thing that I would say as a complaint is a lot of the grates that go on the air-conditioners outside have been off for many months and they're just hanging off the building or laying down next to the air-conditioning unit. Every room has their own unit, so it gives really a bad appearance. The people are only going to the window, so the only view they're getting to see is how much in disarray the building is. They were refurbishing the kitchen the last few months. There have been things they tore out of the kitchen. The old stove is still sitting there and it's right in the way of walking to the back, where you have to go to the window. They're not bearing in mind that people see that and that they're judging by that. They really need to freshen up the outside look of the building. Now with new owners, they're probably trying to tackle one thing at a time. I noticed they put up new blinds inside the room. The old ones looked broken, and we were trying to have window visits with broken blinds that wouldn't go up. To me, it looks like they're trying to tackle the inside first and the outside maybe later, but it's kind of in disrepair a little on the outside. I like the staff very well. I haven't seen the menu, but she is a very picky eater and she doesn't like anything. She complains about all food. If it's not her cooking, she doesn't like it. She says she doesn't like a lot of what she gets, but there's at least something that she likes on her tray. She complains a lot about the food and that's more of my mother-in-law's problem and not the problem of the nursing home. The nurses are good, but the business office needs to return phone calls. There are oftentimes questions that we have, especially when we went from one insurance to another. If they don't return phone calls and they leave us kind of stranded, and because we can't get in the building, it appears like they don't respect the fact that we have things that we need answered. The inside might be better than the outside. The outside needs work. They need to pressure wash the outside of the building, and they need to fix all of the broken things that are hanging off.

This is a very old facility the air conditioning units are very old and moldy not clean very often my sister was in there for two months and her air conditioner filter was never changed. Most of their staff AIDS are acceptable but the nurses and administrative actions are terrible. It has a bad odor because the bathrooms are not cleaned frequently. I hope I never have to be put in a facility like this one.

The care was substandard to say the least for my family member. They were constantly under staffed and the DON was ALWAYS rude to say the least. Even with the few good days we experienced they were to few and far between with so many horrible ones that we finally had to move our loved one Please be careful and things was even after they changed ownership!!!!

When I first walked in, there was nobodyat the desk. Finally we saw a man that worked there. He brought us to the nursing staff. When I asked them what room my father was in, they didn't even know his name and referred to him as the guy with glasses. They didn't come off as professional. Once I entered my fathers room, there was a cup and a cotton ball with blood on it under his bed along with a lid that looked like it was laying in small pieces of poop, two dirty gloves, and one of his shirts that had stains on it which were all strewn across the floor. I immediately took pictures of the state his room was in and unfortunately I can't upload them to show the filth on hos floor. Once we asked for a nurse to clean it up we found out the the previous nurse had used my fathers shirt to wipe up the tea she spilt. She obviously left everything on the floor and statted that it was "clean". My father had to call my sister to tell her he had been waiting 3 hours for someone to change his soiled diaper. I don't know how this facility could be considered in good conditions.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Very pleased. I went here for rehab and it was more than I expected. The therapy team was great and the staff were so friendly. I would highly recommend this facility for rehabilitation.

My grandfather stayed at Place at Pooler. The experience was not very good. The room was very plain and had nothing, not even a TV. The food and the common dining room were fair. The atmosphere was OK, but they did not really take good care of him. They ignored him for a while, and we had to go down there and make sure that they cleaned up.

My dad was only at The Place at Pooler for a short while, and I would say it was adequate. The sanitation was good; it was an older facility, but it was clean. The staff was pretty much nothing spectacular -- it was alright -- and I think there were better facilities out there, but it’s older and it probably does need some upgrades. Communication must be improved; I never got a chance to speak to a doctor, and I think the doctor is not caring and not as attentive as they should be.

My mother was placed in this facility because she couldn't stay by herself. The staff seemed very efficient and friendly. They were helpful and good with the patients. The food was pretty good and the cleanliness was as good as could be expected. Sometimes I'd smell urine when I walked into the building, but I didn't consider that a negative aspect. There was an incident after Christmas when my mother had some of her Christmas gifts in her closet. One of them was a new robe. Well, we couldn't find it when we went to look for it a couple of days later. My mother couldn't remember where it was. We looked everywhere and never found it. I guess we'll never know what happened to it. When my mother was extremely ill and close to death, the staff had put her in a special room with comforting decor and lighting. It was hard to see my mother in that state, and she didn't remember who I was, but the staff had done everything to make it as possible as possible. One more thing...one day a woman brought some miniature horses to visit and my mother was so amused and happy to see them. So was I!
