Inattentive staff. Staff management at fault, not individual aides. Very sad to see my oldest friend ignored and left in bed for hours or on floor after falling as no one responds to call button.

My 90-year-old dad has lived in independent living at Sterling for almost 10 yrs. He recently commented how friendly everyone at Sterling is, and how helpful they are, "even when the area where they are helping is not even their responsibility.” What a blessing Sterling is to their residents and their families! (He also regularly comments how good the food is!)

Sterling Estates of East Cobb was very inviting and we liked the layout. They didn't have all that many cottages available. I think they had 14, something like that. We were hoping they might have had a few more but they had none available. One would have to go on a waiting list, but frankly, we thought the layout of the place was superb. The staff was very, very helpful and friendly. They answered all of our questions and were very attentive. We did a viewing of the food but we didn't sample it. It certainly looked good and we like the way they organize things. We looked at their independent living cottages. They were very nice and they had all the things that we were hoping they had. We saw people visiting in the lounges, we saw people just talking to each other, and some even came up to talk with us and they were quite friendly.

Sterling Estates of East Cobb is nearest our house, but it's more expensive than the West. The size of the place is only 16 acres. All the facilities are apartment buildings, 3-stories but there are some 2-stories with a garage underneath. They're kind of close together. They call them cottages, but they're apartments. They're large, and well over 2000 square feet. The elevators are relatively old and a little shaky to get up to the third floor. We had a friend who lived in the facility, and we've been into their apartment. It was very nice; however, it was on the third floor. They have since moved in and are now on the ground floor of another apartment within the facility. Another friend lives above them on the second floor of that facility. It's a 2-story and only one of two 2-story facilities in the complex. The tour guide, Laurie, was very enthusiastic. She took us to one of the apartments that were lived in, but the person that lived in it was not at home at the time. She knew that was, and he was amenable to having her show the apartment to customers. It was a large apartment, almost 2400 square feet, 3-bedroom. His wife had passed away three years ago, and he still lives there. The facility came out on the street level, and it had another apartment above it that came down to that entranceway by steps and by elevator from that second level above him. Each of the apartments in that building had an elevator from the garage up to the apartment itself. So, you could take the steps, or you could take the elevator. The facility has a water aerobics pool and a saltwater pool. They had a full exercise facility. But to walk in that area, you'd have to go over into the neighborhood, do a lot of walking because it's a very small, contained facility. When you come into the facility, you turn right and take a drive down the back of the facility's apartments in the main building. Then take a left and go up the hill. There are apartments all around in a circular drive that has parking places on them. Some of the facilities have garages underneath, but not all of them. We did not see any apartment inside the main building. The staff was very enthusiastic, very sure of herself, and knew her business.

My mother is living in Sterling Estates of East Cobb. It's a beautiful place, but it's not run well as far as having enough help, and it was even that way before the pandemic. She's in the assisted living, but if you're independent, they have a lot of activities. They have a pool for aqua aerobics. They have a weight room, they have exercise classes, and they have Bible study classes. They have speakers come. They have a bus that will take people places. I mean, if you're independent, it's probably not a bad place to live. But if you need assistance and also now, they're moving memory care people in there because they need to fill up the rooms and it's not equipped for memory care. They recently had somebody escape from there. It's not secure. They don't have enough help. There's one at the front desk by the front door and she's gone a lot trying to help people. There's nobody standing guard. I wouldn't put my memory care parent there at all. The apartment is nice, with high ceilings, big windows, huge bathroom, which she wanted. She's happy enough with the apartment, it's just you can't get help when you need it. She's moderately satisfied with the meals, but again, with her being in her room and not able to come down to the dining room, they will bring breakfast a lot of times at ten-forty five or 11:00, which I've told them is not acceptable.

My ex-husband is very comfortable at Sterling Estates of East Cobb. Things are going fine, and there are no major complaints. It got awarded the best retirement home of Cobb County. The staff is excellent. It's very upscale for the county. His room is adequate and comfortable. It's a very clean facility. The dining area is exquisite and restaurant type, and he brags that the food is excellent. It has three floors. The entrance and pretty much all sides are brick, and the layout is top notch.
