I visited this facility

Dogwood Forest of Acworth is a great location for us. My mom is going to have a full one-bedroom, one-bath type of apartment once she moves in. That means her bedroom has a totally separate door from the rest of her apartment. It doesn't have a full kitchen or anything like that, but it has a sink, a microwave, and a refrigerator. When we visited, we had to wear a mask. We set up an appointment with a sales representative who walked us around and showed us everything. As of right now, everybody we have met has been super friendly, helpful, and has definitely made us feel confident in our decision. They have a variety of different room layouts to choose from for the new person coming in, and they have taken it upon themselves to make everything seem bigger. The hallways are much wider, so you don't really feel like you're walking into a nursing home or a hospital. It's much more open and more welcoming.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The eleven (11) months my mom lived at Dogwood Forest was a terrible experience. We initially chose Dogwood, not because it was the nicest community around, but because of the director. My wife and I could tell he really cared about the residents and my mom. Within eight (8) weeks after my mom moved into Dogwood, the director lost his position. Fortunately he stayed available to us, even though he was no longer an employee, because many times we needed advise and had no other place to turn. The leadership at this place, after he left, could care less. Dogwood went through two (2) more directors there before my mom passed away. I was accosted by the director's replacement on the phone accusing me of having an outstanding balance on our bill. I knew that there was some misunderstanding and told the new director, that I'd look into it and call her back. When I verified with the Dogwood accounting department that my account was paid in full and up to date. I tried calling the new director three (3) different times and didn't receive any return calls. I received no apology and no explanation from her regarding why she confronted me in that way. There wasn't just turn over at the director position, the staff was constantly turning over with new people. We witnessed two (2) different times staff members shouting and raising their voice at memory care residents. Whenever we complained about it to management, we were either told they'd take of the misbehavior or the person was being terminated. Dogwood onsite management took offense to the hospice company I had employed, for giving me critical updates to the substandard care my mother was receiving from the Dogwood staff and the mistreatment they witnessed from the Dogwood staff to memory care residents. Dogwood tried to influence the hospice company to replace the nurse who had been attending to my mother. Lastly, I was threatened by the Dogwood accounting department that our rent would continue until we removed my mothers belongings from her room after she passed away. When I complained to the accountants supervisor that I couldn't get into the building due to the COVID restrictions, they relented on the threat. My wife and I learned so many things about the ownership and management of Dogwood Forest and the senior living community industry in general. It would have been so much worse for us if it wasn't for our friend, the original director, that remained available to use when we were at our wits end. You decide if this is a place you want your loved one to live in their last days.

My mom moved into Dogwood Forest the first month they were open. I cannot say enough to adequately express how much care and love they give my mom. She feels like they really love her. It is obvious that she is special to them. When it gets right down to it...all we want for our parents in this stage of their life is for them to be safe and happy. My mom is safe and VERY happy! Thank you Dogwood.

I did visit Dogwood Forest of Acworth. It was beautiful. It was lovely. The staff there was lovely too. But it was a little too much money for my parents. It was great, but I couldn’t pick it because of the money. They had a lot of stuff. They had an activity coordinator. They had a lot of things going on for it -- e.g., a lot of daytrips, a lot of classes, and therapy -- but it came down to the price.

Dogwood Forest of Acworth is one of the newest ones in the area, and I thought it was very nice but too pricey. The staff was very nice. The rooms were very nice, but a little smaller than what Dad has now. I have nothing bad to say about the place because the whole place is beautiful.

They did not deliver on thier promisses for fun outings. Wallmart is a nessecity not an outing. The food is terrible and not suitable for people with special diets. The activities are not well organized and is some cases on the calendar and yet they are not ongoing. The rooms are only surfaced cleaned. We moved the furniture, which slides very easily and were appalled by the amount of dirt and the number of lost items underneath. Dust bunnies big enough to carry her away!!!! This facility has the potential to be a great place. It is beautiful and nice and new, but that wears thin when you are bored and hungry. Someone really has dropped the ball or they are using the profits to fund their own nice life.

I was looking for a place for my most precious parents I toured and eventually moved them in, that was the best and easiest decision I ever made and since then I and them have been very happy and comfortable. One of my parents did get a infection and was in the hospital the wellness director visited her at least 3 times a week and comm u nicked with me every time. She even came to the discharge planning meeting. I thoroughly appreciate the education I received on not bringing her back to the community until the physician was certain she was clear and safe to return. I would certainly not want to infect others. Most families need to consider that there are other residents there and they are elderly with poor immune systems. Education, listening and consideration made for a smooth transitional return for my parent Thank you to the staff. May God continue to Bless you all

I visited this facility

Dogwood Forest of Acworth was a very nice, clean, top-of-the-line facility. I really liked it a lot, but the only problem I have is that it is way out of our price range. It had an open concept floor plan. There were recliners, and they encouraged the residents to come out of their rooms and interact with each other. There was a big, open space, and they were having a class at the time I was there. They had very nice rooms.

In the beginning this was a wonderful place, but now it is horrible. Staff is rude and most do not speak good english. Things go missing all time, food quality is bad, and they do not want you if you get sick. They will make you jump thru hoops to get your loved one back home. Basically, if they get sick, put them in a nursing home or out on the street, cause Dogwood forest could care less where they go as long as they aren't there.

I do not know how to express my gratitude for all your staff members at facility. From the day one, they have been so helpful at the each step of the way for Amy to moving in to your facility. Every staff member at the facility are unbelievably helpful in many ways and they perform so plesantly. The nurse takes food care of Amy. The care manager does a great job caring Amy. They are very good about letting me know how Amy is doing, they keep very good detailed recoreds of Amy that I really appreciate. The lady in charge of activity is also so helpful to Amy by her inviting every activity she is creating for the residents. I can go on and on but every person in your facility is so great to all the residents and they do their job so efficiently and pleasantly. I spoke with many residents since Amy moved in and I have heard nothing but great thing about your staff, accommodations and the food. It is such a pleasure to see smiling faces among the residents as well as your staff members that shows your great management of the facility. Thank you. K. Leedy

My visit at Dogwood Forest was very nice. It was very friendly. It was brand new. I knew some of the people that work there, so I felt comfortable with it. It was a good facility from what I have seen. My mother-in-law was looking at a one-room, and it was spacious enough. We had lunch there. Food was excellent. We were informed of their activities. They had arts and crafts, movies, and games. The staff looked adequate.

Dogwood has a wonderful staff that does everything they can to care for their residents. My grandfather was there for about a year and they were able to provide the specialized care he needed for his advanced Alzheimer's. The staff is very welcoming and caring. They are also quick to attend to specific requests. Though like many similar facilities it does have a strange odor to it.
