I am/was a resident of this facility

This place is run down. The TVs have a mind of their own the rooms have very poor lighting. The beds are old and lop-sided. And very uncomfortable. The staff is divided into 2 factions, Haitians and Jamaicans...So you do not cet any kind of decent attention...Complaining does nothing..I spoke with every head of every dept. at no avail. They protect their own.. The situation gets worse when there are no visitors.. The staff becomes more aggressive and even fight with patients.. Myself included, simply because I requested a new wheelchair because the one I had had a broken leg rest..One aide in particular was the most confrontational and would actually curse at you in her patois. Her name is Sharon...The food orders were never ever correct. Every single day of my 4 month stay I had to call the kitchen 3 times daily to rectify my meals...Physical therapy is staffed with mentally challenged people. So your level of therapy depended on weather they took their meds or not...This place recently had a name change. But it has become progressively worse..The way I see it it needs to be closed down and receive a complete overhaul to bring it up to modern standards. And then staffed with people who actually want to work and help other people.

Stay far away from this place. My mom arrived late in the evening by medical transport with myself and brother with her. She was wheeled into her room without any info given to any of us. First impression was we were a bother. The hallway buzzer was going off non-stop. Bright led overhead lights in the room. Furniture like I had when I was in my first apartment - old broken down junk. Trash on the floor for days. 'Doctor' came in a day later. Had wrong chart - wrong patient. Always a bother when needed help. Push the attendant button and the leaf time is at least 30 minutes. Therapy was a joke. Unless you stand and watch your loved ones and the staff is aware you are watching, they will work otherwise it is a waste. Security is non-existent. The kicker is the day before my mom was released I received the orientation and welcome packet from admissions! 20 days later. This place is a joke - avoid it PLEASE!!

Please Please DO NOT PUT YOUR RELATIVE IN THIS FACILITY IT IS HORRIBLE. It's a neat market; my mom is in this facility at the moment; they pay no attention to the patients. It's horrible if I can move my mom I would but at the moment I can't; they have one nurse and an aid for the 1st floor. Therapy is a joke they all are busy talking and playing it's sickening. Dialysis is a big joke they have the patient sitting in the hallway while the aides speak there language, and the patient screaming that they are cold. Like was said before the patient has to wait forever before anyone shows up to offer help. My mom sat in her wheelchair for hours until her feet were swollen, and she was hungry. I'm now speaking to someone about what I can do. I left a message for administration and she has yet to call. Worse every

This facility is a total nightmare. I came for a tour before my 84 yr old mother arrived. I was shown decent looking rooms on the first floor of the facility and even saw a dining room that didn't look to bad. Well surprise, surprise. It was a classic bait and swItch. The second floor where my mother was sent is the total opposite of what I was shown on the tour. They cram 2 people into a tiny room that would even be small for 1 person. The furniture looks as if it was purchased at a yard sale in a poor neighborhood. The chairs in the room are dirty. There are holes in the walls. None of the furniture matches. My mother's bed was broken and had to be repaired before she arrived. Now for the care. They have this thing called a call button. When you push the button for assistance, someone should come to the room, right ? Even thought her room was about 20 ft from the nurses station, when I pushed the call button for assistance, no one came. I was there for 90 minutes and no one ever came to the room. The health staff does not seem to care about helping patients. They don't like to be interrupted while texting on their phones or chatting with each other while looking at photos on their phones. I just hope those pictures aren't patients or they could face serious law suits. The cell phones should be banned. One time I went to the nurse's station and stood there for 5 minutes, (timed it), before someone finally asked if I needed help. They were too busy on their phones. Whenever you ask a question about care, the usual replies are, I'm busy or thats not my department. THEY JUST DON'T CARE ! The facility us very out dated with old furniture, the old box type televisions in some rooms. It's in need of a total remodel or better yet a tear down. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY, THEY DONT CARE. FOR A SKILLED NURSING FACILITY, THEY HAVE UNSKILLED CARE. IF YOU LOVE YOUR RELATIVES, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ! THEY DONT CARE ! RUN THE OTHER WAY. I would give them a "0" if I could.

I visited this facility

This was my first time visiting Heartland to see my 94 yr old mother in law. When we arrived, we were asked to sign in. My daughter noticed that patients 'room #'s' were in the book next to their names. She voiced her concern about the safety and privacy of patients since their room #'s were open to the public (receptionist rolled her eyes). When we entered my mother-in-laws room, it was dark and she was sitting in a wheelchair blankly starring at the wall. She said she had been waiting a long time for an aid to answer her call button. I pushed the call button and timed it...30 minutes later...NO ONE bothered to acknowledge her call. I went to the desk and no one was at the nurses station. I went there several more times and still no one was there. Her dinner finally arrived around 5:35 and there was NOTHING on the tray she'd eat (she can't have cheese & the sandwich had turkey, cheese and sauerkraut on it). Once again we tried to find someone, ANYONE to no avail so I sent my daughter out to buy her dinner. We asked the food service lady why they didn't have menus for patients to choose from and she said, "We do, didn't she get one?" No, she hasn't had one since she's been here. She said she'd get her one...it never came and again, no one answered the call button. I went to the nurses station and although the call button bell was CLEARLY 'dinging,' the nurse ignored it (she was too busy texting on her cell phone) until I interrupted her. Although they have dinning rooms, my mother-in-law was given her food trays in her room...she ate alone. When I spoke to other patients about this, they said you have to 'ask' to eat there. I did go into the 'activity room' to see if anything was going on, there were 6 or 7 men eating in there who appeared to be having a social hour. Most were long term 'residents' there. I walked around the facility l

Poor care. Call lights stay on forever! I had to keep leaving my mom's side to try and get help for her and each person I asked for help just kept passing the buck to someone else.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I am 57 years old and I had a right full knee replacement in Coral Springs Hospital. I was told by phsycial therpy that I had no choice but go into a rehab skilled nursing facility. The case worker told me that the only place with a bed was Heartland of Tamarac. So I had no choice but to go there. I was transported by amubulace to the facility and I arrived at the center at 5:00 p.m.. They rolled me to my room where the bed wasn't made up for me to get into the bed. So I had to wait until the aid finished the bed. This waiting put a bad taste in my mouth about this place. Finally got into bed. I am a diabete and still didn't have anything to eat or drink yet for dinner and the nurse didn't come into the room to see me about 3 hours later. The nurse said to me that he had to do a full evualation on my body from head to toes. First they had to weigh me with this crane and nets around my male jewels and my stomach and back.. I never been so scared in my life this thing picking me up. to weigh me.That was just the beginning than he and the other aides striped my hospital gown off to examine me of any wounds. They saw the wound on my but and noted in there evaluation papers.. But still nothing down about me sore on my butt. Even after I complain about the pain coming from the sore on my butt. They finally got me something to eat that looked like throwup on the plate. They do a good job of ignoring you and a long job to answer the call bell. I called on the call bell that I needed to go the bathroom to urinate. The nurse finally came and handed me a bottle to stick my penis in a urinate. I had a hard time holding it and the nurse refused to help me so I wet the bed and myself. The nurse finally came to me and kind of got mad with me. Beacause now they had to change the bed linens and wash me up and change my gown. Stayed there at this place for 8 days and no one bath me nor addressed my wounds. This place is no place for someone to get better. I would't send my mouse he to get nursing help.

Wish I didn't have to put even one star. The care in this place is beyond sad. We had no choice but to get a 24/7 private care for my father. The aids do nothing to assist. They do not care at all. They are by far the laziest! They treated my father so poorly. With a private nurse they should have been thankful for the help. Please never ever put a loved one here. They do not receive the proper care. Call lights stay on for a very long time before they will look. I've walked past rooms and helped patients calling out for help. Just a sad pathetic nursing home. DO your research before sending anyone there.. Fight your insurance company before they make you use this please. My fathers cell phone was stolen from his room. They even came back the next day and took the charge. Plus his mimi ipad was taken from his room when he went for treatment.

No care, no consideration for the patient, no answer when you are asking for help, etc... Only here for rehab took over an hour for pain meds and three hours to get help back to bed. Horrible that a person should not get meds and help in a timely manner.

Heartland of Tamarac was good. The facility was clean. It was well staffed. They seemed to treat their residents well. They had lots of activities for them to participate in throughout the day. It seemed very nice.

My husband is there and if I want to be sure he is taking care of, I need to be there as long as possible. The place looks wonderful, sparkling, no bad odor but that is all. No care, no consideration for the patient, no answer when you are asking for help, etc... Please, do not sent people you love there and even the one you do not like. It is ashamed this place is still opened.

Negligent and uncaring staff for the most part. Every day there is a new issue and trying to find someone to help is impossible because no one takes responsibility for anything. If you want the director or director of nursing find them standing outside smoking.

This place is disgusting! First off my mother's room is filthy and things are broken like the wardrobe and bed clips. There are crumbs on the floor and in the drawers which ants are crawling on and eating. Can i attach pics? She was admitted and put in a room and the nurse went on break before giving her any water, meds, food or ice packs to ice her injury. The staff takes forever to come and i have seen some people wet themselves waiting then have to wait even longer to be changed. The nurses move your personal things around, adjust you and your medical apparatuses, and even move you where you ask to go based on there whim. I am so disgusted.

My mother was there for a very miserable few days. I had her transfered. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. I wouldn't send my dog there. The staff showed no compassion to my mother at all. The CNA didn't know how to put my mothers Bi Pap machine on my mom. They also "forgot" to put it on her 2 nights in a row. My mother almost died once before because she went without her Bi Pap machine. Please take my advice and look for ANY other place but Heartland of Tamarac.

My brother is in this facility as I write this. I can not give this facility a favorable rating as there are too many negative experiences to list them all here. (I had to give at least one star to be able to post this review.) From ignoring the patient's cries for help to jerking the nurse's call button from the hand of the patient and throwing it on the floor because the nurse is "too busy to come running every time you want something". The calls are not returned from the social worker, who is "the only person I can get information from", in a timely manner. The patient is asked important questions regarding his care and expected to perform physical therapy while under strong pain medications. But when the patient complains about anything, he is ignored as being not able to accurately identify his needs. The family/care partner is not consulted regarding care or discharge. The nurse in charge only follows orders regardless of the condition of the patient. IE: my brother had a badly inflamed upper arm above the IV port the hospital had installed. He had complained of pain to the nurse who said she couldn't do anything about it because the hospital had ordered it. I showed it to the nurse who said she would have to wait until morning to call the doctor! She ultimately removed it that night, at my insistence, but if I hadn't seen it, my brother would have suffered further injury to his health. I am extremely disappointed in this facility. It is not the first Rehab Center he has been in, and while there are similar, unavoidable occurrences like these at all of them, this one has had an unacceptable amount of negative ones. If you are in the position that we were in, having no other choice but Heartland of Tamarac available to place your loved one into, I recommend that you stay with your family member as much as possible during their stay.

I'm amazed to see positive reviews of this place. My dad had to stay at this facility on 3 or 4 separate times for long term periods. He had personal items stolen. He was non-ambulatory and had to sit in his own filth for hours before being changed. Laundry lost his clothing. The food was usually not edible. I am sorry, but this place is awful and I wouldn't send a relative here unless you can be there to observe the well being of your loved one.

I do not recommend this facility. My father was here on 3 different occasions in the past few years. Most recently the staff was slow to respond and incompetent. The food is terrible as well. Personal items were stolen from my Dad as well. My father is well aware of his health conditions, is alert and doesn't have memory issues. Thank goodness, because he had to help the staff to be sure the care he was getting would not cause adverse effects.

My wife was in Heartland for rehab. It was a very nice facility with nice people working there. She's been there before and she's comfortable there. They have activities like bingo, cards and physical therapy. They could improve on the quality of the food and a quicker response to the needs of the patients.

Heartland of Tamarac is a fabulous. It's very good. The place is immaculately clean. The staff are very helpful and very nice, and they took care of my brother very good. . Everybody is cooperative and kind. I have not encountered anyone that's mean or nasty. I know they have activities for the residents. I am very pleased with them.

Heartland of Tamarac was a clean facility. They had a nursing home upstairs and everyday they had activities like bingo. Everyday I went to see my mother and every 2 in the afternoon, we would go upstairs and participate in those activities. It was very good and very active. They had taken good care of my mother. They had an extremely good rehab. There were physical therapist that help her do rehab every morning. She liked that too.

The staff was knowledgeable yet busy. There was a marked difference between efficacy of the rehabilitation staff and staff tasked with everyday care of guests. Rehab, though hard, was one of the things Grandfather looked forward to. The rest of his time was spent largely alone in his room. His basic needs were met well, but he was lonely when his family wasn't with him. So overall, the experience is neutral, a viable solution for anyone looking for a safe place for relatives.
