What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Training is always on going. There is a minimum requirement that we do adhere to but we continue Dementia, Alzheimer's, CPR, med tech classes, etc.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at The Retreat at Port Orange. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
We have 38 beds on our AL side, each of our residents have some form of Dementia. We have 16 beds on our Advanced Alzheimer's side. We believe in building relationships with our care team, residents, leadership team and families.
What programs or activities does The Retreat at Port Orange offer to enrich residents' well-being?
We have a vast activity schedule throughout the day. We don't just put the calendar in their rooms - we go door to door to bring our residents out to enjoy our fun!

Ritter's Frozen Custard, The Port Orange City Center Park.
What transportation services does The Retreat at Port Orange offer to assisted living residents?
We have a bus that we use to take our residents to outings, lunches, doctors appointments or just for ice cream!
What safety features or security measures does The Retreat at Port Orange offer to assisted living residents?
We are a secure building on both sides (assisted living and advanced memory care). We have motion censures in each room during the night.
How does The Retreat at Port Orange keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
We have a monthly newsletter and we ensure that any changes are communicated to the families.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at The Retreat at Port Orange during daytime and nighttime hours?
There is not an actual requirement for care staff to resident. It is based on an acuity level, but we are well above the minimum.
If The Retreat at Port Orange accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
If a resident or the family can care for the pets, we are happy to have them. We have a lovely garden area.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
We at Grace Manor have the mandatory training, in addition, we have NIDE (National Institute of Dementia Education). This gives us a little more insight into how to best communicate and interact with our dementia residents.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
During the day there may be as many as 15. during the night there is usually at least 6.
What safety features or security measures does The Retreat at Port Orange provide to protect residents who wander?
We are a secure building.
What programs or activities does The Retreat at Port Orange offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our entire goal is to engage, include and keep our residents happy and thriving. We have a calendar of activities that go on and on. Pet therapy, music therapy, exercises, bingo, word search, dancing.........
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our VP of People Experience does the initial assessment, then it is done continually as we see changes in our residents.
What techniques does The Retreat at Port Orange use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
We encourage people to do as much as they can, however, when they need assistance, we are here for them.
How does The Retreat at Port Orange keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
We have continuing communication whenever there is any change in the residents cognitive, physical and medical condition.
Describe the neighborhood around The Retreat at Port Orange. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
We are on Herbert Street across the street from the park and Silver Sands Middle School. There is a large home community around us.
Is The Retreat at Port Orange affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
We are a residential community, just like at your home, if someone needs medical care, they are evac'd to Halifax Port Orange Hospital or Halifax Main in Daytona.

Our objective at The Retreat at Port Orange is to provide specialized memory care services seven days a week to your loved one. Each day, our trained specialists work to develop individual skills and measure residents’ progress. We are staffed with Certified Dementia Practitioner's (CDPs) certified through the National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners.
