Assisted Living Reviews for Brookdale Citrus

September 29, 2015

By Gary M.1

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My father was at Brookdale-Citrus. He spent 30 days there. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. The environment was a little bit dated and the facility was a little bit old. The overall experience was positive, but it was an expensive. You had to watch the billing very closely. The food was better than adequate. It was good. The menu was good and varied from day-to-day. My father seemed to enjoy it. Activity wise, he was not all that mobile so was not able to participate. He participated on the daily exercise program, but he was not able to go on any of the outings. They had a van that would take you out. They had a very flexible, personalized care service. Once they evaluated you, the would structure a care plan that would be delivered to your specific needs whether they be very few or much more. Of course, the price would be adjusted up or down, depending on the level of care required. We found it to be very good, overall. In our situation, my father got to a point where he was doing really well, and their doctor agreed if he wanted to go home, he could. The people working there were very positive. They were all very friendly, outgoing and very accommodating. One thing that I would mention, which I thought was positive was that when you go to Brookdale, you would have to, in a sense, buy-in. You had a community fee that they charged. It was about a $2,000 fee. They would break it up over multiple months so it wouldn't hurt quite as much. I was told that should you need to have your relative go to another Brookdale facility down the road, they would take that in consideration. In other words, Brookdale was a big organization, and apparently, in a way, they worked together should you need to go from one to another as time went by.

Brookdale Citrus has a little bit narrower halls, but it had a nice area where the people could go out, go for a walk, and would not be able to wander off. It was an area with a locked gate. My impression was it had very caring people. The supervisor had a pleasant personality, and she was very caring and interested in making sure that the people in her unit had the best care possible. The people were just really top-notch people. The apartments were not quite as new, but they were still good and nice. We went to their dining room, and it looked nice. The menu they posted and included in the brochures looked very good. They had a very nice variety of food. They had a wide variety of activities. They had some computer games, and it looked like it would be a lot of fun.

I liked Brookdale Citrus and where it is. It is close to where we live, so we will not be having a lot of time driving back and forth. The girl who gave the interview was very good, and the facility was clean and neat. I met a couple of the ladies who were there, and they said that they enjoy being there. The room looked sufficient.

This was my first experience going into assisted living, and I didn’t know what to expect, but Brookdale was modestly decorated. The exterior portion of the building was not attractive because it was right on the main road, and there’s a parking lot and apartments around it. It was very clean, and the people were very caring. I liked that the employees have all been there a long time; it must be a decent place to work.

This is an older community, but obviously well cared for and clean. The staff seems to enjoy their workplace and I saw a few talking with residents and giving them love and attention. The residents seemed very happy and active. This is the place for my Mom, for sure!

During my visit in Emeritus at Barrington Place, I thought it was very comfortable. I liked the facility. The staff was very friendly. They took us on a tour and answered all of our questions. They even provided information and told us what we needed to do. They let us look at their rooms. For someone that is used to a home, it was not spacious. But looking from a different angle, it was a decent size. We selected one room potentially because we thought we were moving my father right away. The only thing that I didn't like was the distance. It was a little far away. I thought that my father would be isolated although he could have his own world. It was really nice in totality. However, it was just too far for us to go there on a regular basis.

Emeritus at Barrington Place was probably the second best place we saw because the living quarters were larger, and the cost was more reasonable. It was an older facility but the staff was very pleasant. Sanitation seemed to be good. The dining room wasn't as nice as some of the others; however, food was very good.

Every staff I saw at Emeritus at Barrington Place was knowledgable and had good professional ethics, but this place is not at the top of our list because it was not as uplifting as the others.

Emeritus Barrington Place was very nice. However, they did not meet the needs we have for my father-in-law. The staff was very nice and very pleasant from a sales standpoint. The rooms were very clean and very nice.

Emeritus at Barrington Place is a very nice and a wonderful facility. It is very clean. They allowed her to keep her cat which is important to her. The staff is tremendous and they were very helpful and courteous. I was able to ask a lot of questions and they were able to provide the answers. I asked them to do a couple of things to make her feel comfortable and they did that immediately. She got a one room studio and it's quite nice. They had it freshly painted and restored some portions of the room. The've got activities for just about everything they want to do. They've got Bingo, knitting, crocheting, and games.

Emeritus at Barrington Place is a very nice place. It is within two miles from where my mom was staying. She got a one-room studio and it is very nice and clean. They had it freshley painted and freshly re-floored before she moved in. The staff is tremendous. They are very helpful and courteous. I asked them to do a couple of things to make my mom more comfortable and they do them immediately. They also got quite a few activities that you could want, e.g., bingos, knitting and crocheting, games. I also like this place because they allowed my mom to keep her cat, which is important to her.

This community feels like a real home and I didn't realize what an obvious difference from other ALFs there would be. I figured they would all more or less be the same, but this staff was friendly, caring, interacting with all the residents who looked happy and relaxed and engaged. I'm ready to move in, too!!

My wife goes to the Emeritus at Barrington Place for day care and she enjoys the experience. It's an older facility, but well maintained. The most important thing to me is their staff. They've got a very caring and professional staff, so I'm very pleased with it. It's the most reasonable and the best facility for its value. They have an entire wing that's dedicated to memory care patients.

I went to one of the caregiver meetings they were having at Emeritus at Barrington Place. During the meeting, I would hear a very loud buzzer throughout the place. Whenever somebody would call for service or is not where they should be, the buzzer goes off. And I know that's important, but it was just overwhelming to me. I found it very annoying because it was so frequent. Otherwise, it's an excellent place. The staff was lovely and very helpful.

Emeritus at Barrington was very clean and very nice. They showed us a model room. Everyone had their little private room. But the type of structure is not my mother would enjoy at all. It was like you're in a hospital ward.

It's a very nice and clean place. It smelled fine and it looked organized. The lobby there was wide open. It's very big and roomy. It was inviting! We also went into a couple of rooms and they were very nice and very well decorated. Their staff was hospitable and everybody was fine. I really didn't pay that close attention to the residents there, but I didn't see anybody yelling or anything. They seemed really content to where they're at.

I found the staff left much to be desired. The room in which I had toured for my mother was beautiful as well as the outside grounds was clean. I like that the staff pretty much left the residents to their own devices but my worry is that they may be too distant from the relatives. My mother really liked the facility and I usually tend to go with what she feels since it is her life but as a daughter I felt the facility left much to be desired. However, in speaking with some of the current residents they seem to have no complaints about the facility.
