I visited this facility

The Grace Manor at Lake Morton is the place I would have put my husband if I had a choice. I liked everything about it, and I liked the fact that they had a flat fee and I would know exactly what I was paying every month. The facility was very clean and I just love it. I saw rooms where they played bingo and they did crafts. I saw the lunchroom too and basically, the whole facility. I saw a 1-bedroom and it was very large. I toured the memory care and it's a locked facility. I visited this place and was so impressed that I didn't go to any more places after.

I visited this facility

The tour at Grace Manor at Lake Morton was very good, they just didn't have a bed available for my aunt. It was a very nice community, clean, and well-kept. It was number one on our list but they said that they didn't have a bed available for at least a week and then they had to also do an assessment for her in the hospital, but the hospital was releasing her. We just couldn't come to terms on how to get the assessment done and the bed. The director was very, very honest with me and said that it takes them a while to get acclimated to their new surroundings and new people. Of course, in memory care, you get people who may be just wandering or they're just sitting there so the interaction may not be as much as if she would stay in an assisted or independent living. The doors were locked because it's a memory care and they don't want people wandering off, but they do escort them out to the garden area. They also can escort them outside across the street to where they have a little park in the lake. I thought that was a nice feature. The room was a bedroom and then they had a family room, a kitchen area, a dining area, and then a kitchen off to the side. It was much like a home environment. It was very clean.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Things are presented very differently than what happens after your parent moves in. They do not have enough staff on the floor to adequately care for the needs of the residents. They take lots of pictures and make it look like everything is fun times, but when your parent has an individual need, it is often neglected. Choose another facility, but if for some reason you have a parent here, make surprise visits at random hours of the day and night. Check their medicines to be sure they are really getting them. Best to use your own doctor outside of the facility if you want to be the one making the decisions. Beware of outside agencies coming in to give "services" to your loved one. If something feels off with your loved one, check it out. Educate yourself, and don't let the only information you get come from administration. You know what is best for your parent. The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulates ALFs. You can look up reports for this facility and other facilities. I highly recommend it!

I went to Grace Manor at Lake Morton. I really wasn't that impressed with it. The front door stays locked, which is fine, but somebody has to key you in and out. The people were standing there just waiting for somebody to open the door. There was potential for somebody escaping, and I had an uncomfortable feeling about the place because of that. The rooms were smaller, and on the verge of being cramped. I wouldn't recommend that place. The place was small, and the dining area and common room flowed together. It did not have a homey touch to it; it was more clinical.

Provider Response

Thank you for visiting our community. We do provide a secure environment as our residents are here for memory care. This secure environment provides an indoor and outdoor space that our residents can freely walk and move about within the safety of the community. Your experience of having of team member escort you in and out will be what you experience in any secure community. We feel a personal escort in helps our residents have safety as well as a warm greeting to all visitors. You mentioned how our dining and living space flow together, that’s purposeful for a large common area where our residents are always welcome to socialize, join in activities, dine and even rest, when rest is needed. Our rooms are large enough for a bed, large dresser and even a favorite chair. What’s more is the cottage window that is placed for our team members to check on residents regularly without necessarily disturbing them while they rest. We have a vibrant activities program that keeps our residents engaged and provides for companionship, exercise, entertainment, creative self expression and overall, a great time. You might even miss us next time because we might just be on the bus taking one of our weekly outings. it’s difficult to travel the path that you must be in looking for care for a loved one. We are here to listen and help, even if our community wasn’t a fit for your loved one, please consider us a resource in your journey, we are always here to help. Be well.

7/6/17 There is so much I could say about the this facility and the bad care my Mom received in the very short time she was there. I'm asking Please if you are considering this facility make sure you are there everyday at all different times. Yes It is beautiful from 9-5 week days and low price in the being but it is very heartbreaking after hours. I was there everyday after work but that was not even good enough bad thing happen late night ,early morning to my Mom, was in ICU 4 days said she fell out bed, After taking her back two days later she had bleeding arm, worker said hit door going to bathroom said it took 3 workers get her to bathroom, she is a small little lady, I can do it myself, The last thing I came one morning unexpectedly while some were eating breakfast I found my mom still in bed in a fetal position, shaking, naked in wet depend and wed bed, leg & arm bleeding her pajamas across the room, my Mom can't get up without assistance was left that way for at least an hour, worker said she didn't want to get out of bed. They manhandle her. I took my Mom out after just being there a short time. My heart was breaking for all the other patients there that never had love ones come visit. The lack of communication between shifts/workers. Not enough staff or proper training to work with memory care patients, Not just weekends but all week nights also, Big turnovers less than 3 months workers, the ones I talk with and I don't care attitudes. They do what the want to do regardless of what the family members request. There was two specific things we ask please don't do and they did anyway. The facility did not keep there promise for patient care and I was very concerned for her safety. The office people are all smiles and happy make you feel good about the place but Please look around hard at the ones who will be taking care your love one not so much smiles and over worked. Office girls go home at 5 Take notes and get names . ;(

Grace Manor is fine. They have good service and excellent food, and it is very clean. They walk down to Lake Morton and feed the ducks, and they have mystery bus rides. She has a room that has room for several chairs, her dresser, her bed, a cupboard where she hangs her clothes, another big piece of furniture that she brought from home where she keeps her knick-knacks, and her radio, and she has her bathroom off to the side of her room with showers that are easy for her to use. Their brochure says that they have Sunday church services, but they don't. They are not really staffed that well on the weekends; it is kind of a skeleton group, so they don't have the same level of care on the weekends.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My neighbor William is at Grace Manor. He is in a private room, and it is very nice. It is small but very nice. It has a large bath and shower. The food is very good according to William. He really is enjoying the meals very much because he lived by himself for so long and only had the one meal a day, so having three square meals, he thinks he is in heaven. The staff is very nice and very accommodating. They have entertainment every afternoon. They do trips for those who are able. William has his own television, and he watches that. However, he is bothered by the fact that he can't go outside by himself, but that's the way it is when you're in the dementia ward. The door is locked, and anyone of the attendants has a key to let you in and out. We went and visited several facilities, but because Grace Manor has a dementia ward, it seemed like the best place for William, but it is very expensive.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mom is at Grace Manor at Lake Morton. What we like about it is that the cottage itself only holds four to five people as there are only 45 residents in the facility. It is designed like a large home. The facility is well taken care of. The attendants are doing the best that they can to care and to keep the residents engaged. They had different games and projects going on in. My mom is not really happy with it because she wants to go home, but they are going their best to take care of her.

We visited Lake Morton and we liked the facility. We had dinner there and we enjoyed it. We enjoyed the facility. It's just that we are not in the position to move in a facility right now.
