Assisted Living Reviews for Watermark of Gulf Breeze

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother and I toured several facilities when searching for a safe, comfortable place for our Mom to live. Watermark was by far the most impressive. Due to circumstances beyond our control, our "move in" date needed to be adjusted with very little notice. The amazing staff did everything possible to accommodate our needs and warmly welcomed our mother. On the evening that we moved in, our mom was greeted by numerous residents who all were happy and proud to have our mom join their special community. Every member of the staff I have met is kind, caring, and appears delighted to be at work. Experiencing such positivity from both residents and staff is a rarity in this very challenging industry, and that Watermark has successfully created this environment speaks volumes. This Thanksgiving, I am so grateful for the staff at Watermark. God bless the staff, residents, and facility!

My family and I sent an Edible Arrangement gift as a present for a friend's 79th birthday. We live out of the local area currently. Our daughter paid him a visit since she had to evacuate the Tampa area. During the visit it was discovered that the staff placed his gift in the community refrigerator. He only got to enjoy the grapes. The staff didn't even have the courtesy to give him the card that came with the arrangement for him to read the message and be aware who sent the gift. What's more frustrating is the fact we called to verify the gift was received and asked the staff member to make sure he received the gift. This resident is very special to our family. I'm a Registered Nurse and it's pretty pathetic when medical staff takes advantage of others.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father has lived at the Watermark for one year. When he moved into one of their assisted living units, he was withdrawn and somewhat depressed-- having recently lost his wife to cancer and having suffered some health setbacks. One year later--he is a new man. He loves his room with the kitchenette, he adores the staff (God bless the front desk staff...he often just hangs out with them and they always make him feel wanted!) and he has a whole new community of friends in the residents. I live in the midwest, and I can't tell you how many times he has brushed me off the phone to watch a movie with friends in their living room or play bingo or some game. The activities director, Shannon, gets them to festivals and restaurants, Ft. Pickens, and Wal-mart and is especially conscious of creating fun outings that don't break the bank. The nursing staff-- day and night-- go out of their way to make sure my dad is taken care of-- he feels so loved! He even has a favorite cook there! In addition, the owners gave a Christmas party that was extraordinary. They came with their own families, and were so warm to all the residents and families in attendance-- it made me happy that we found such a homey, happy place for Dad...that is also recently updated...and so close to the beaches and activities that lure extended family into town for visits. I think the Watermark is just wonderful! (P.S. Their business office is so professional and helpful-- Cathy is awesome! And the director, Tammy, is brilliant-- they are lucky to have such an A team running things!)

Next week, Carolyn will move in to Watermark of Gulf Breeze. My family and I have toured many communities, and this was absolutely our favorite. We watch for things like how the staff greets people, how they treat the residents, how the residents look, and the cleanliness. They were just wonderful and above any place we had looked at. The cost was so much better and definitely lower than anything we found in Pensacola. The grounds are very well kept, and everything is clean. There’s greenery in the back, all trees, and it’s beautiful.

Not the place for someone you love. The lobby is the best part of the facility. From theft of clothing, to TV being the only real entertainment, to not changing dirty briefs, it's no way to live. Tour some other places. You'll see that Watermark is more like a smudge.

Provider Response

We are so sorry you had a bad experience. The Watermark has been recently making positive changes with our new ownership, creating a higher staff to resident ratio in nursing and all departments. The community has been extremely successful with retaining current happy residents and having limited turn over. The Watermark has also revamped the internal and external activities program which has received positive reviews from residents and family members. We strive to create positive living environment and make sure our residents are our number one priority. If there is anything we can do to correct an concerns please feel free to contact Management at 850-934-1061.

The staff was always highly professional friendly. They respected the dignity and rights of of the residents there as well. Whenever my husband tried to refuse to let his father smoke, the staff was quick to point out that, while they frowned up on it, it was his right to do so. The amenities were acceptable and always clean. The rooms felt very homey and private. The grounds were stunningly beautiful and near the beach. On occasion, they would even allow us to bring my father-in-laws dog, Mate, for a visit. It would cheer them both up.It was close to the beach which made outtings particularly pleasurable for him. Everything he needed was provided for. He even had housekeeping coming in to help keep his room neat.Whenever my father-in-law ended up needing more care than they could provide, they quickly arranged for an ambulance to transport him to the emergency room.

I found a place for my Mom just right near my house. The Villa at Gulf Breeze has a lot of area where she can't wander out of the facility. She has a door in her place that crosses right out to a big porch. So she has access right to the outside from her room which is nice. The people there are just amazing. My mother has dementia but the staff there has patience like the saints. They are just the most caring people I've met. My mother loves her room. She loves the food. They can fill out their own menu every month. The food there has just been wonderful. What I like the best is that they take them out at least once a week to have lunch and shopping and stuff. They do bring in a lot of different organizations that would have lunch with them too. I would most definitely recommend this place to others as my Mom has no complaints about the living arrangements there and she is very happy now.

I visited this facility

When it was time to put my grandma in an assisted living facility, we were obviously very picky and had high standard for where she would be placed. When we came to Gulf Breeze, our worries were quickly cast out. The facility was very clean, and well managed. The staff was welcoming, and seemed to be very caring and educated, and truly worked hard to assure us that my grandma would be well taken care of. The rooms for the residents were good sized, and each room had a private bathroom. When we toured the facility, I noticed many health aides and staff persons tending to the needs of the residents that already lived at Gulf Breeze. Basically, my experience there made me and my husband feel confident about our decision to get my grandma the help that she needed.
