My husband and I researched dozens and dozens of retirement communities before settling on Oak Hammock. We put our name on the list two years before they opened. It was the best decision we ever made. We joined a community that became a family. The residents are all friendly, intelligent, and active. We have a calendar of university classes, amenities that would astound people looking for an elder home. We offer bee keeping, gardening, wood shop, stained glass. We have an outstanding library, a bank, several beauty parlors and a barber shop. I remember thinking that I had arrived on a stationary cruise ship especially when I discovered cold soup on Thursday’s menu. The staff is absolutely the best part of the experience, and the residents become your friends almost immediately. There are many different sizes of apartments and homes with a price range that can accommodate of different income levels. When I hear we are too expensive, I ask that you make a list of your current expenses including your clubs, your taxes, and your upkeep- long range or short. Be sure you include health care because we have a wonderful health pavilion with doctors, nurses and aides just a few steps away. Don’t leave off our housekeeping, replacement of all appliances as needed, and no monthly bills for electricity, television, and real estate taxes. We get back our homestead allowance, too. And don’t forget “eating out”; we have a fabulous dining program with candlelight dinners in a lovely garden. We love to recruit nice people, so call and schedule an appointment with our dynamic marketing department. Betty K.

I liked the large campus of Oak Hammock, there were lots of areas to walk around, and they have a nature type of setup. They have a lot of classes. They have full service, all the meals, but the service depends on the level of care. They staff was very knowledgeable, very professional, and answered all our questions. They have buses and transportation to places you need to go to.

We have friends living in Oak Hammock. I like the idea of their meal plan; as opposed to having to eat meals, they had a credit system. If you didn't use all your credits, they will carry over, as opposed to saying use it or lose it by the end of the month. The community is in the metropolitan area, so there are a lot more cultural activities to be involved in. They also provide transportation to a lot of these places for the activities. The restaurant staff seemed competent.

Oak Hammock at the University of Florida was an outstanding place, but it also had an outstanding cost. It was comprehensive and first-class all the way, including the cost. They had apartments, and you could cook if you wanted to. They had a full-service dining area, and the food was excellent. We had dinner there and it was very good.

It was a very good experience. We enjoyed our visit at Oak Hammock, and we were very impressed with it. My husband is a grad from the University of Florida, and he presently goes to all of the football games, so that's a big draw right there. We really liked the independent cottages that they had. That was very attractive to us because we have a pretty active lifestyle, and it seems like the independent cottages up there would allow that to continue. Everybody was very nice and answered all of our questions, and we had a chance to view the entire facility. We know about the continuous care program, which was a very nice feature that they had. My daughter has just moved recently up to Ocala, so it just would be a perfect location for us if we decide to do that. Also, everything was new there.

Oak Hammock was a wonderful home and looked very good, but it was quite expensive. It was very nice and very new, and we liked it, but couldn't afford it.
