If you love your elderly parents do not pick this place. Used to be excellent, but in the last few years gone terribly south. Maybe 3 employees left who actually care about the residents. Dining room is horrible, service stinks, cold food, wrong orders. Trying to get something fixed by maintenance is a nightmare. The activities are child-like.

We chose The Cloisters of Deland assisted living, but they also have a nursing floor. It has a good community feel and lots of activities. The residents are engaged with each other and the activities they provide. When we go to visit my father-in-law, we always eat there, and the food has been really good. It's a gated community, and the grounds area beautiful and nicely kept-up. The place is very conveniently located because it's very easy to get in and out of. He has his own private room, but you provide your own furniture. You also have the option to leave your door open or lock it. It's a very safe place, and they come by to check on him every two hours. It's the least expensive of the places we saw but provides the most bang for your money.

The Cloisters of Deland is where we originally wanted my mother-in-law to get into because it is closer to our house. We put money down on it. However, after they went through her diagnosis, because they're not privately owned and part of a foundation, they were not allowed to accept her. It was our first choice. They had a huge indoor pool. It was like it's own community with houses and apartments. The only thing they didn't have was a shopping center. This place was like a gated community, which we really liked. That way, my mother-in-law couldn't just walk away, but it's not a lockdown place. The staff was really nice. The only thing that we didn't like was that the staff works off of commission. When we first went there, we met with a lady, and then we were scheduled to go in that following week to go ahead and start the paperwork and secure my mother-in-law a spot, but they ended up rescheduling on it twice because we couldn't just talk to anyone there. She had to be the one that we had to meet with to go look at the apartments. That was the only downside. Their apartments, even the studios, were a little bit bigger because they had a full kitchen in every single one of them, which is why we wanted my mother-in-law to get into there because she likes to cook. The rooms were very big, all remodeled, and very spacious. This place also served two meals a day. They only did lunch and dinner.

I'm impressed with The Cloisters. The rooms were outstanding. The two-bedroom apartment was the best I've seen. The dining area was great.

My mother is in The Cloisters. The make each of the residents feel like they are the one there. They make them all feel like they are cared for. The place was beautiful. It is very clean. They will do anything that she needs done. Right now, she is having help with her shower. They do her laundry, dishes, empty the garbage, and the other things that she can’t do right now. The dining room and the food are OK. They are working on it. My mother plays dominoes, lameque, pochino, and bingo.

We were very pleased with The Cloisters of Deland. It had individual villas, some with garages, and towers for assisted living or beyond that. We ate dinner there and it was very nice. They had a beautiful atrium on the upper floor. We talked with quite a few people who were really very happy with all of the activities and stuff there. If there's one thing that can be improved on it would be that I'd like the people in the apartments to go to early stage assisted living before having to move into the towers.

The Cloisters of Deland is an eight-story building with all of the privileges for people who can no longer cook and need nursing care. It's a full-scale facility. The staff seemed efficient and very helpful to our friends. We were visiting our friends who seemed very happy with the facility. The rooms were very good. The food was quite adequate.

I have visited a lot of places, and The Cloisters of DeLand is the best because we don’t make a down payment; we just pay by the month. They have cottages and apartments. They have great food. They have excellent services. It’s a nice place in DeLand, and I would highly recommend it to anybody.

At The Cloisters, they provide meals and so on. However, we didn't approve of the meals at all. The one meal we had was horrible as far as I was concerned. The facility was not bad. They had some apartments that were kind of independent, and those were nice, but they were on the small side. We probably could accommodate ourselves with something like that, but we could not accommodate the food. The staff was nice, except the cooks were pretty bad. Also, my wife was not impressed with this place.

I like the villas and the meals at Cloisters of Deland. It was beautiful. The staff was good, the meals were good, the dining room was clean, and the villas were excellent. They had a swimming pool, and they watch movies.

The Cloisters is a big place, and currently I am in their independent living area. They have 7 or 8 things to do every day. They have movies, exercise, lectures, shopping trips, and all those sorts of things. I like that this facility is peaceful and quiet. The food is pretty good. The staff are very good and very friendly. The only problem here is that their evening meal is from 4:30 to 6, and that seems like eating in the afternoon. I chose this facility because, when the day comes that I need help, I won't have to move again. It's a gated community, and they check the vehicles, so you have to get a pass or a little sticker on your windshield. A lot of their residents don't have cars, so they have several buses that take them to Wal-Mart or to any shopping center.

My mom has been in The Cloisters for a year now. We chose this for her because they were more competitive price-wise. Aside from that, they were the only one that actually didn't try to get your money to move in, like ask for additional one-time fee. It is also considered the best in the area and they have won all kinds of awards. The staff is very friendly, very caring and very informative. Their rooms are better than others I looked at. They have full kitchens which a lot of the others don't have. It depends on the level of assisted living, so if you're in the highest level, then you're in a room with constant nursing care and you don't have a kitchen there, obviously because they'll be serving you three meals a day. Their dining room is very spacious for the residents. Food also is very good and everyone seems to like it. As far as activities, they have all kinds including a swimming pool, which again others don't have. They also have a gym and a library there.

We are just waiting for my mom's background check to clear before she could move in to The Cloisters of Deland. We chose it because of the affordability in combination with the decency of the facility. They were willing to work on my mom's social security disability. I also like the convenience of the fact that they will take them to the doctors if they signed up for the shuttle. They would also take them to the grocery stores which I think is really an awesome feature as well. They also would allow pet with a pet deposit which is fine because that way a lot of elderly folks like my mom likes having a pet around.

The Cloisters was a great choice. The area was clean, it's a nice gated community with many features available for seniors. The rooms were nice, it's very apartment-like, very easy to forget that it's a retirement home. The cost of living is very high, which is one of the reasons my grandmother didn't choose to stay here. The staff seems very friendly and willing to help. Monthly events are put on for the residents of The Cloisters and it seems welcoming. We chose to go with a different living facility due to the price. The events and activities were probably the most welcoming aspect, they keep the seniors busy and that matters a lot.

I toured The Cloisters. When you first go in, it has a place where you stop. Then there are all these villas that are all connected. You can get smaller ones, which have the stove, kitchen, and everything in there. Then you can have the larger one, which has a much better and bigger bathroom. They're very nice, very clean, and really good. If you go into the building itself, there's no smell. It's very clean.
There were some people out in the chairs. They have canes and wheelchairs, and things like that. I didn't see a lot of interaction. It might be because of the pandemic and that they're just not having people out and around.
The marketing director was absolutely wonderful. They have a little gathering that they call a pub. They have activities, an exercise room, a place where doctors come or you can visit the doctor right on site, and things like that. I ate there, too. I would say it's mostly women, and then I saw two men. The food was very good, and I was surprised.
Everything there was great. The only thing that bothered me was that I didn't see people. There was a girl at the desk, but I didn't see anybody that might be interacting with the people that are there. I may be expecting something that you wouldn't have. I didn't see people walking, like a staff member or somebody walking through or a nurse. That was the first one I've ever been in.

The Cloisters had independent and assisted living. They had the outside units as well as the units in the high rise. It was nice, but the rooms were dark and most of the rooms had windows to the hallways, so you have a choice of everyone seeing you or having your room rather dark. The staff during the visit was very accommodating. The place was very nice. I really enjoyed some of it like the downstairs area, which had almost like a Parisian feel. They had a little area with the hairdresser and a little convenience store thing. It was set up like a little avenue with brick flooring, and it was very pleasant. The staff went through a lot of trouble trying to show us everything. We went to several units and looked.

The Cloisters was very nice. We went there to see the independent living. They have smaller and larger rooms; there were about five different models of rooms with different prices. The largest apartment was very nice, but I found it to be on the dark side. It's acceptable, but it's on the dark side because it's facing an atrium, which is in an area that people walk around in, and there's no light coming in. The back of it is also facing the windows of the other bedrooms with no light coming in. They have 15-20 activities like a band and a few other things going on. They also have little houses outside that you can rent. They have a library, a salon, there's a little store where you can buy things on credit, and they charge your room. They also have a service where you can order your food to go to your room, it costs $5 each trip. So if you're not feeling well that's a good option. The staff was very polite and nice. They smile when you ask for something they go get it for you. The place itself is very nice and clean. Other than an atrium, they have birds in the large room on the bottom floor with different kinds of birds that you can look at. They also have outside cottages that are really nice. Some of them have garages and some of them don't.

I was a resident of The Cloisters. They have villages for independent living and their main building has eight floors I lived there for two years. They had a dining room and three meals a day. I lived in a villa, and I moved out because the big rainstorm flooded my apartment. I didn't think the food was good. Breakfast was OK, but the rest of it wasn't good. Their kitchen staff refused to take advice. They had a pool, a salon, a library, a place where you could pick up snacks, and coffee or something to drink available all the time. They had assisted living in the main building and a nursing staff on the second floor. The facility was older but well maintained. They need to redo all their villas outside, which little by little they're doing.

Everything is included in the Cloisters, except her cell phone. They are constantly active with something going on all the time. There are several trips a week and three meals a day. They are very close to town. They can either walk or there’s a van to take them. It is very centrally located and very nice. It is close to other family members, too. For independent living, it is fabulous. It is a villa, and we looked at one that was a two-bedroom and two-bathroom with eat-in kitchen. They have a storage room inside the villa and a garage. It is fantastic.

The Cloisters had little cottages around their property -- about 15 or so of them -- and they were very pleasant and nice. The inside of the building had lots of rooms for hobbies, and they have one room up in honor of the Second World War veterans who were there now and a beauty shop inside. The food I had could use some improving, but everything was really nice about it. It had a lot of nice things, and it was reasonable, too.

The place that I selected is in some ways highly regarded. It is called The Cloisters of Deland. The staff is extremely selfless. They even occasionally voluntarily wear t-shirts that say, "I love my residents." The room is perfect. It includes a full kitchen, a full refrigerator, and a range. It also has a full laundry, washer, and dryer. Plus, there is an excellent bathroom with a shower and tub unlike any other I’ve used before. It has a seat that is built into the wall, and there are plenty of stainless steel hand holds. At this place, it just amazes me how many different activities are available every single day, seven days a week. There are so many that they’re listed every day on a large bulletin board that changes daily.

We saw The Cloisters. My parents love almost everything about that place. They love the villas. It was very nice. Once they felt like that they could get their ducks in a row and sell their house and stuff, that's probably would be their first choice. The apartments were beautiful. There was like a two-bedroom, two-bath. It was very clean. They had just gone in and remodeled one, and it was almost like going into a brand new place. The facility was very nice and very accommodating. My parents like the pool area. They also like the dining room where you can go to, but they all have their own little kitchen and washer-dryer in the unit. My parents don't need the assisted living, but if they need it later, then they have that option there as well. We didn't eat there, but the dining set-up was actually gorgeous. They have a lot of good activities too, like movie nights and cards. My parents really like that place. They have different things going on. They have two or three different days where buses came and took them to the grocery store or shopping. So there was transportation for them as well. They have a doctor onsite as well. Also we like the idea that it was gated. Nobody could just go in and out of the place.

I like the accommodations at Cloisters of Deland. They were absolutely beautiful, much more spacious and for less money. You could have choice of an apartment or a little cottage. But I ate there with my friend, and it was the most horrible food you could ever imagine. They said they've changed food provider. Also, the people looked more disabled, and I didn’t see many activities going on there.
