I think Stone River Retirement Community was fantastic. The atmosphere was wonderful, inviting, friendly, and upscale but the pool was the biggest issue. They didn't have a pool anywhere. Their food was fantastic. Their menu was excellent beyond anything I have seen. We tried everything, except for the dessert (although I took a bite of from my daughter). I had prime rib and a little flounder. I started with a breakfast of waffles, whipped cream, and strawberries. It was just fantastic and everybody was very, very accommodating and friendly. Angela was a perfect host and always. We spent time with her and she was just very endearing and lovely.

Provider Response

Thank you, Heidi, for visiting Stone River. We are pleased to have hosted you and your daughter. While we may not have a pool on our property, we do have transportation that can take residents to the YMCA, just down the road. Thank you for your kind words and positive review of our community. Stone River Retirement Community is looking forward to those you may turn our direction.

I thought Stone River Retirement Community was a very nice place. The apartment layouts are leased by the month, so they have a lot of flexibility. The menu is a lot better than the other place. The layout of the apartments are pretty good. I was very pleased by it. Even though it is right near route 75, which is the superhighway that runs down this coast of Florida, you don't hear anything. There's a supermarket within walking distance. There are several more stores right there. If you cross the superhighway, there's a big Walmart and stuff like that, so that's really convenient. Stone River Retirement Community had a very friendly atmosphere, and I think it's a good place. It's only about six years old. There's a regular-sized washer and dryer, a dishwasher, and a range. Everything is fairly new and nicely kept up. It's a very pleasant and very nice, quiet place. It is in a very convenient neighborhood for shopping. They have a bus service that will take you to different places. They have a number of different one-bedrooms, a smaller number of different two-bedrooms, and they even have a three-bedroom that they offer. There's a lot of common areas. There's a seating area where you can just sit down out there and talk to people. It's like a living room area that isn't in your apartment. It's furnished like a living room, and you can sit out there and talk to people who are also sitting. It's nicely done that way. Everything looked very pleasant.

Stone River Retirement Community was lovely and the experience was great, but it's only independent living, and that's the problem. We needed assisted living also. The staff was great. The rooms were nice. The upkeep was well done. We ate there and the food was great. The dining area was a ten out of ten. There wasn't a lot of outdoor spaces.

We liked everything about Stone River Retirement Community, and the people there were very nice. It seems like it's what we're looking for. We were very impressed. They had a very nice dining room, game rooms, arts and crafts room, a little store, and an exercise room. The facility itself was very nice, well maintained, and clean. There was a nice theater with a huge screen TV where they show movies and shows of some sort there. The only thing that they don't have is a pool. They had two-bedroom apartments. However, we just looked at a one-bedroom for now and it seemed very adequate. It had a lot of space, and it was very nice. The staff was very knowledgeable. They recommended that we come back again and try the food.

I toured Stone River Retirement Community. The administrator interviewed me. We sat down and we went about what I was looking for. What I was looking for was more of a community for companionship type of thing where I could do something with the other people. I wasn't getting that where I'm living now. The only apartment they had left was an apartment on the second floor, but it was overlooking another building. And they had like the air conditioning and the heating system up on that roof in both my living room and my bedroom. Then we went through the rest of the tour, but that was what I could afford, and that was the only one available. No wonder nobody wanted it. Others didn't face that building that was within my price range, but that was the only one that was left. The tour was fantastic. They have big pictures on the wall. It was gorgeous. Everything was very, very elaborate, but I would have still felt comfortable. The people were very friendly. A couple of people came over to say hello. I saw all the activities. They didn't have a swimming pool, but they had arts and crafts and different activities, and they did a lot of planned activities outside of the community. The ground was pretty, but it didn't have any gardens type of thing, and there was no place to sit outside. The staff who accommodated me was great.

Stone River Retirement Community was a very nice place. The only thing they didn't have there was a swimming pool. A couple of people I talked to said it was very, very nice there and they love living there. The man that took everybody on tour was very knowledgeable and very nice. He was great. They were extremely helpful. I said hello to people passing in the hall or out the front door, I asked them if they were very happy there and they said, yes, they were. The place was very nice. It's only four years old. It's very well taken care of.

I toured Stone River Retirement Community. It was a lovely experience, and Michael, the man in charge, gave a beautiful tour and was very cordial, and couldn't have done a better job. He was great and the facility is just lovely. And if I was looking for one that was rental only, I think I'd be very tempted to be there. I met some of the staff and the residents. Many came up and said this is a wonderful place to be. The apartments are quite lovely. They had a good selection of studios, one-bedrooms, two bedrooms, and they even had some three bedrooms.

Stone River Retirement Community was amazing. We didn't have an appointment, but we wanted to see if we could get a quick look, and they were so kind. They sat down and they talked to us about my mom's needs there. The residents were having brunch. It was very lively like nice music and great food, and we saw some of that. Everyone was very nice. We loved the tour. It was so beautiful, and it was really nice. They have lots of great activities, and they have a movie theater. If you don't want their lunch, dinner, or breakfast, they have pizza and hamburgers all day that someone will make you at any time, and that was appealing to my mom because she likes to eat light like that instead of the big meals. I loved it; she loved it. Their concierge will pick up your car and bring it to you, so you don't have to worry about parking or anything like that, so they'll help you with that, which we loved. They have medical services there on site. They're really nice people. It's great tour. The room was perfect. Everything was exactly what we expected, and they could not have been more accommodating. They showed us what we were looking for. It was great. They also have room service. Their kitchen staff would deliver food if you wanted it with no extra cost, which was amazing. The shower was senior safe, it had a seat inside, and it had like a walk-in option without the door. But the problem there was the pricing, which was pretty significant. It was more expensive, but I probably would think that it's worth every penny. They have management that are there 24/7 onsite. They have safety alerts in the rooms. If you don't respond by 10:00 or 11:00, they'll come check on you. They have good backup safety where they check on their residents, and they seem to know all the residents very well. It was a really good experience. They invited us back for brunch, so we went for brunch, and the food was amazing. There's soft serve ice cream that you can get anytime, and beautiful coffee service. The kitchen area was amazing. They have a vitamin water machine, which was very good. The coffee was great. They have a soft serve ice cream machine. They have snacks available 24/7, you can go down, and it's just a really nice self-serve option too. I noticed the kids who were cleaning the tables, they all knew them by name, and everyone was socializing with all the staff, too. It was really nice to see. They're a nice group of people that work there. I noticed one of the kitchen staff came out and you could tell he was looking for someone and he found her, and he ran over, and he was like, "Oh Miss Fester, I was looking for you. I just want to let you know we're having pizza and chicken wings tonight. I know it's your favorite," and her whole face lit up. They just had such a little friendship there and they were completely diverse from each other. It was really nice to see. They all knew each other by first names, and they were joking with the staff, so I really felt that was super nice.

We go over at Stone River Retirement Community for Sunday dinner with friends of ours, and so we keep in touch with what's going on over there. It's not for us though. It's too far out. It's too far away from a lot of activities and too far away from the colleges. Most of the staff said they love working there, and I think they're happy. They've got a salon. The facility was nice, well kept, well designed, and had lots of color. The staff that we saw and talked to were pretty up-tempo and so were the people. They seemed happy. It's just kind of expensive for where it's at.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your review. We welcome visitors and are happy you noticed our residents and staff love being here. Although we appreciate honest reviews, we were surprised you felt we were far away from lots of activities. There is a ton of great shopping and restaurants all around in addition to being only 12 minutes to the huge Mall at the University Town Center and 10 minutes to all the restaurants, shopping and activities in downtown Lakewood Ranch. If you enjoy the beach we are only 30 minutes to beautiful Bradenton Beach. We are also a short drive to many other attractions, such as 24 minutes to the John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, 18 minutes to the fun Red Barn Flea Market or 29 mins to the Sarasota Opera House. I could go on and on about all the great activities and fun things to do all around us. Additionally if you need to get out of town, we are only 22 minutes from Sarasota International Airport or 56 minutes to Tampa International Airport. Regarding colleges, State College of Florida has a campus 14 minutes away and New College of Florida is a 23 minute drive. I would love to talk with you next time you visit as I am sure whatever it is you are looking for we likely have it nearby.

I visited Stone River Retirement Community. There were two things that kept us out of there. They didn't have continuation of care, and they didn't have a pool. They had everything else. Their food was excellent. The staff was outstanding, and the activities were probably as good as any you will find. The people that live there were friendly. I like them. If they just had a pool and continuation of care, we would have been there. They didn't have a couple amenities that we were looking for. The food was excellent. I had prime rib. They were like three years old and new. Everything was nice. All of it was clean and very good. The rooms were excellent and comfortable looking. They had several one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and I think they even had three-bedroom, and they were nice.

Provider Response

Jim, Thank you for your nice review. You are correct that we do not have continuation of care but most people age in place well at Stone River because of our attention to fitness, mind and social programs and by being able to hire help as needed. By having an in-house Home Health company and Therapy service, as well as the various medical professionals that make regular visits, we are able to keep most residents from having to ever move into an Assisted Living Community. Our residents also take comfort in knowing that their Emergency pendants or watch connect them instantly to our 24 hour concierge and/or myself and husband that live on site with our residents. Also, some of our residents here that thought a pool would be important, realized they hardly ever use a pool anymore, and there are a few that utilize the YMCA pool not far away. We realize we are not all things to all people but do appreciate the review and hope you find a comfortable home that has everything you are looking for. Thank you for your visit!

I was very, very impressed with Stone River. The people were very professional and friendly. They answer all your questions very honestly. They're truthful. We toured a few of the apartments there. We also toured the facility on the first floor, the eating facility, and the fitness room. I was flabbergasted at the number of people that are living here that would come over and stop. Some were walking, one was in a wheelchair, and another one with a walker was very charming, came over, put her hand on my shoulder, "How are you? Are you planning to come here? You look like a fine gentleman." I was blown away. The apartments were fantastic and very reasonable. The monthly rates were very reasonable in comparison to some of the other places I've seen. They take care of their people, especially their veterans. I met quite a few people who were Army and Navy veterans. I'm a Navy veteran myself and that pleased me very much. You can have a car there, and they have valet service. You don't have to find a parking spot. You just drop it in the front of the place, and they'll park it for you. If you want a garage, the valet will take it to your garage, lock it up, and come back and give you the key. The tour guide was one of the executives there, and he was wonderful, very thorough, and answered all my questions. He's fantastic. They have a pretty extensive library of fiction. You could sit down, and it's quiet in there. They have a side room where you could congregate with a couple of people. When you have family over, you can sit in there quietly. They have other places as well where you can sit down and make more noise and have fun. There's an exercise room. I was surprised at the number of exercise machines that they had in there that were not ultra-strenuous machines. People who have an average age of 80 years old could easily use just to tone up. They also have yoga classes and a Tai chi class. The eating facility is spectacular. There are different sections of the eating facility where people can go to any time during the day, sit down, have coffee, and talk. Then there's a little bit broader area that's reserved for the main meals, where more people are coming in. It's very, very nicely done. I met the head chef, and he's very nice. The menu is very extensive. They have different things each day. They have three meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a preparation area, where you could come in in between meals and have a snack or a sandwich. It's very easy to get around. The hallways are very wide and spacious. There were handrails on both sides of the hallways for people who may have a little bit trouble of moving around or walking. They have more than one elevator. The elevators are big too because they're also used when somebody is moving in or moving out. What they do is they put shrouds inside the elevator with blankets on the wall, so that the walls are not damaged. They're used to transport furniture into or out of the apartment. The apartments were prepared for people who were going to be moving in in three months or so. They were so clean. You could almost literally eat out the floor and parts of it are carpeted. The appliances appear new. I really enjoyed it. The parent company that owns Stone River owns a number around the United States at different places. I could leave Stone River for a short of period of time, get on a plane, go to one of their other facilities, and stay in an apartment in the other facility free of charge. It's like being in my own apartment, and that's fantastic. What made me excited is one of them happens to be in South Windsor, Connecticut, which is within 20 minutes of where my extended family lives up in Springfield, Massachusetts.
