I visited this facility

I like the proximity of Grand Oaks Assisted Living to my home. I really like the staff I met there. The facility itself didn't have a lot of outdoor space, which I think for my mom is important, so that was a negative. It also kind of felt a little cramped in terms of the space. For us, we really had to be mindful of cost, and so part of the reason that I took Grand Oaks off the list was that it was expensive. We were looking to sort of maximize the number of years that we could pay for care for my mother. So that was really a huge factor, and they were very expensive compared to other places. The rooms were older and not as bright as some of the other facilities I looked at. They were a little less updated, too. However, the staff member who gave the tour was great. He was very informative, very professional, and very transparent. I liked him a lot. I also met the head of the medical staff there and she was great. She was very enthusiastic, very knowledgeable, really easy to talk to, and very approachable. I really like the staff as a whole. The receptionist was nice.

Grand Oaks Assisted Living looked attractive. The apartments, although small, were very nicely done. The staff was very friendly. They showed me some of the community activity areas that looked attractive, too. It was inviting and upscale. The sales rep was very focused on what I was saying and attentive. He just made a good impression on me. I liked the dining area. It felt like a nice upscale restaurant, rather than just kind of a cafeteria feeding place.

I went to Grand Oaks. When I walked in the Alzheimer's facility, I thought it was great. I really liked it. It's more expensive, but I just thought they had a great Alzheimer's facility there. They have too many perks that we can't afford to pay for -- and that my mom won't use. I thought Grand Oaks was the best. Everything I saw there was great. They had two courtyards in the Alzheimer's unit, which I love. I like courtyards, and I like the fact that the patients can walk out of the door. Naturally there's an alarm when an Alzheimer's patient goes out, but they had courtyards, so they can go out and sit, and my mom would love that. They had two different courtyards, and I like that. I felt like it was bright, and they cared about the lighting, which I thought was important. You can tell that they had track lighting, so things just look brighter. The only problem is that their facility is overstuffed with amenities that my mom won't use. When I went down to see the regular people -- not Alzheimer's patients -- they're regular patients eating food, and they were having lobster, crab bombs, and wine at the table. It's like you have to pay $10,000 a year whether you're going to have that wine or not. It's just a little pricey for what my mom would need. They had a person come over and basically give you a menu. They had a menu and it's like a restaurant. They have a menu, a chef, and all that kind of stuff. The food was outstanding. I thought the staff members were good too. I couldn't find anything wrong except the price. The activities director was outstanding. They knew so much about how to get Alzheimer's patients to do what you want them to do.

I was very impressed with Grand Oaks. I liked it best of all in the Washington DC area. The community life seemed very nice. I liked everything about it including the location. The staff was wonderful, very informative, pleasant, and courteous. It was a great overall experience. They're right there with the Johns Hopkins Sibley Hospital, so if anything goes wrong, you can go right into rehab or right into the hospital. The whole place looked wonderful, so as the dining area. They have their own chef. However, it's very expensive.

I liked the apartments at Grand Oaks in Washington. My father-in-law needs to be monitored all the time so we thought that this facility would be really good for him because the facility is connected to a hospital with nurses on-duty 24/7, and his laboratory tests can be easily done there. The facility is new, so the apartments are nice. The bathrooms are completely accessible with grab bars in place. As for the activities, there are chair aerobics and church services. The menu looked good, but I did not try the food. The medical services are what stood out for me at this facility.

The apartments were nice and big, it seemed that they have plenty for them to do, and there is a nice dining area. The staff seemed very nice; they keep the place clean. They have choices all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have different activities such as movies, going out, and going to the shopping centers, and then they have scheduled trips that the residents can take advantage of. My aunt will be going to Grand Oaks in August.

My mother stayed at the Grand Oaks for 30 days after being released from the hospital after a stroke. We are very happy we decided to go to the Grand Oaks. The facility was kept very clean, the staff were professional, the activities were engaging and the food was pleasant. The staff was patient and understanding of my mom's unique needs as a stroke patient. Highly recommended.
