I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My father was there after a fall, and he has dementia. Some of the nurses and staff are incredibly rude and unfriendly. They frequently yelled at him when he wandered into areas they didn't want him to enter, without understanding wandering is a common aspect of dementia. Although were were told their staff were trained in how to communicate with patients and residents with cognitive impairments, many of the staff clearly did not receive or ignored their training. My father was often agitated and depressed while at Forest Hills. It was awful. Do not send an elderly family member with any sort of cognitive impairments.

I visited this facility

Forest Hills of DC looked old and the aesthetics were not appealing. The staff wanted us to sign over the house. The rooms were nice and the dining room was fine. It seemed like they’re doing fine.

My experience with Forest Hills of DC was great. The lady that helped me was very personable. She gave me some good suggestions, she wasn't at all pushy about the place, and she was very forthcoming with the cost. We got to talk and I told her a lot about my dad, and she was pretty blunt. My dad is only 70 and it seemed like he would be pretty young for that place because most of her clients are in their 80s. The meals are prepared for you. When I got there, there was a guy who was doing folk singing. They have Bingo nights, card nights, and walks. She also notes that if you have any particular interest, you could bring that up to the event coordinator and the would try to get somebody to come and do a speech. They're very open to ideas about your interests and trying to put something together for the group. It just seemed dated compared to the other place I saw. I had to park off the property down on the side street because there's not much parking. The staff has to park there and that leaves very little parking for guests.

I am/was a resident of this facility

This letter is being sent to all of you with my most heart felt thanks for your wonderful, daily services, from July 10th thru Oct 18th 2014. I came to you with a broken spirit, not quite sure if I was ever going to walk again.Your staff left me with no doubt that they were there for me to get on my feet once again. Your physical therapists had a determination to help me, regardless of howI fought the pain, that I have never encountered anywhere before. The therapists determination and positive attitude gave me the confidence I needed to walk on my own. I would personally recommend Methodist Nursing and Rehab for you excellent physical therapy programs and would rate you "above average", as a caregiving facility. My personal daily contact with your warm and friendly staff especially therapist Marta, gave me the opportunity to get my life back in order. Thank you again, and God bless everyone. You are very special people to me. Sincerely Olga

I visited this facility

This is a beautiful facility that has a variety of levels of care from independent to advanced care for those with Alzheimer's disease. I have been there for meetings and was impressed with the pleasant staff and the ambiance. The areas I have been in were immaculately clean and had a classic décor. The facility is located in a wonderful neighborhood with tons of upscale shopping and great parks. There is nothing I can say negatively about this facility.

Methodist Home is in a nice location in upper northwest DC on Connecticut Avenue, where there are plenty of trees and benches outside for residents to enjoy. It offers all levels of care from independent living through skilled nursing care. The entire place appears to be organized and managed very well. The building is a little older, but well maintained. There is an older style of décor, giving it the feeling of an old luxurious place. All residents have their own apartments, complete with microwaves and sinks. And the units are pretty big"”with a sitting area and separate living room, kitchen area and bathroom. One nice feature is a gorgeous dining area with high ceilings and big window. It's very inviting, and family members can come in and have meals there. Lots of options are available for food choices every day. Pets are allowed here, as long as residents take care of them. And some residents say that while their own kids may not come to visit often, they always have their pets"”which is a great comfort. Varied activities are offered, including outings to local cultural events and wine and cheese hours. There is a nurse on staff, and because it's a small place, the caregivers really seem to be knowledgeable and stay on top of residents' care and changing needs. They are also very collaborative in working with outside agencies and family members. Methodist Home has a separate health center where residents can go to get their medications. And the facility also accepts Care Share, so that a number of residents who can live somewhat independently can share the cost of aides who will check in at intervals. This allows them to get more care, but is much more economical than hiring a one-on-one aide. The cost is moderate to high for the area.
