I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. It's all excellent. We were very impressed. It's very clean. They have a lot of programs that deal with memory care. The food is excellent. I give it two thumbs up. My mom likes listening to music. She's got dementia very badly, so that is pretty much what she does there. Her room is very nice and very clean. She has a room for a bed and some other furniture. There's a big closet, a sink, and a bathroom in there. They baked us an apple pie after we went to visit, and that was very good. But they will prepare anything she wants. If she likes blueberries, they'll go get her blueberries. They're very accommodating. We have had no issues. Their activities are geared toward people with memory loss. The value for money is comparable to everywhere else, but I think it's too much.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

We went to Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. They were very clean and very attentive to my needs. It would have been the perfect fit for my mom with the activities and the care, but she was not ready for that. We decided to take a different route and get her home care, but we were very happy with the staff. Excellent communication. They returned phone calls. They're very helpful with doctors because we did enroll her and she never stayed, but they were very good as far as getting everything prepared for my mom. I would give them an A-plus. The food was very good and very fresh, and they had different varieties. The place was very clean and very sanitized. It was during COVID, so they had everything under the guidelines of COVID. I felt very safe.

Provider Response

Patty, thank you so much for taking time to share your positive experience with us. Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull is committed to excellent communication, a clean and comforting environment, and the highest level of care for all residents, and we are pleased you were able to see this in action. We know the choice of care for a parent can be an arduous one, and while you did not need our services right now, we hope you will keep us in mind for any future needs. Thank you again for your kind words.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. Her experience has been very good. She's secure and she's safe. The staff is wonderful. They love her, and she loves them. All the houses are similar because it's memory care, and they want them to feel comfortable in all different areas of the building. She has activities that she's engaged in. The food is good. I'm happy with where she is. I think it's a wonderful place, especially for memory care people. The other place is just smaller and more like a home, but Bridges is a great facility. There are four different households. They have Shelton, Easton, Fairfield, and Monroe. All four wings are set up the same. It's memory care, so they don't want them to feel disoriented and they want them to feel comfortable wherever they happen to be. That's cool about that place if you have somebody with Alzheimer's or dementia and you don't want to get them dysregulated. There is one activity room on the upper level and one on the lower level, and they're both set up the same. She has a studio, but they have different sizes. She's in one of the smaller ones with a shared bathroom, but they have bigger units where you have your own bathroom. The food is pretty good. They could have a little bit more activity, but they're mostly good.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband is currently at Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. The community is beautiful, but they're short on staff and having a really hard time keeping the place clean. I have no problems with the food. I would give them pretty good marks for that. The place itself is beautiful too, but the administration is very lacking. I've only had one meeting with any kind of medical staff since we've been there. There's no communication and if there is, it's very inadequate. They don't reach out to the family members, and they don't communicate with the family members until there's something wrong. They don't have ongoing conversations with us. When you walk in, it looks clean, but it smells terrible. The smell of urine is very difficult for them to control. I do understand that they're dealing with dementia patients because this is an all-dementia facility, but my husband's unit smells so bad when you're walking in. I don't know why the employees can't smell it. This is a relatively new place. The place looks great, but the upkeep of the rooms and the common areas is not. The urine smell is just really bad. They have carpets for people who are peeing everywhere, and you cannot keep carpets clean. The urine smell is all down the carpet. They may be shampooing it, but I don't know if they're going to be able to get that right. Once you start to urinate in carpets, you will have a problem. The place looks good, but if you really look closely, you'll see that the people who are cleaning them don't know how to clean. They're not employees, they use an outside service for that. I think they're really good at activities. They have live music entertainment, which is great. They have that several times a week. I pay $10,275 a month, and I still frequently clean my husband's bathroom floor. I even have to change his bed sometimes. I have to work too hard to pay that amount. I don't think I should be mopping the floors and paying that amount. The value for money is way out of proportion.

Provider Response

I visited this facility

I went to the Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. I liked that it was exclusively memory care. I liked that the price they offered was all-inclusive, rather than trying to figure out the different levels of care and where my dad would fit in on that scale, so that made it easier. The staff was good.

Provider Response

Hello Greg! Thank you for stopping by Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. Our compassionate team of dementia care experts strives to create meaning and joy in daily life for each and every one of our residents - at any stage of memory loss. We're happy to hear you had a positive experience with our community. Thanks again for the feedback!

There are many good things about Bridges and there really are some fantastic people that work there. For the most part they keep residents engaged and encourage them to do activities. The food seems to generally be good. Here's what I've been disappointed with: The communication between the staff and family is inconsistent. His room hasn't always been very clean, and neither has the clothes he's worn or his bedding. I mentioned that he needed help getting dressed (wearing 7 shirts, anyone noticing?!) also that he's not removing his dentures at night to be disinfected. Do I have to point these things out? Cleaning the rooms once a week is not enough when you're dealing with people who have Alzheimers. They are accommodating when things are mentioned, but why are they not more proactive? Things have improved, and again some staff members are excellent (because of them - like Audra and Jennifer, I'm giving 4 stars instead of 3). However, as a high end facility the communication should be better. Also, sadly all these places have frequent turnover. Everyone's always outstanding, exemplary and a perfect match for the position until they leave either by their choice or they're shown the door. Some maintenance issues, while not critical, haven't been taken care of in over 6 months. I don't expect perfection but for $9k/month I do expect better.

Provider Response

We're sorry your experience at Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull has been anything short of exceptional, on any front. The satisfaction of our residents and their families is our first priority, and it's always our goal to balance a resident's wishes with those of their loved ones. We strive to be empathetic to residents and their experience with memory loss, and sometimes that can mean balancing what we want to do with the resident's will and choice. We would never allow a resident's health or safety to be compromised, but we can occasionally let go of small matters in the interest of the person's mental and emotional well-being, and to support their desire to maintain independence. As you mentioned, we also believe we have a fantastic team of staff, many of whom have been at Bridges by EPOCH since we opened or shortly thereafter. All of that said, we would like to talk with you offline about your concern regarding inconsistent communication between staff and family. We are grateful to count your loved one as a member of our community, and we'd like to collaborate with you to come up with a plan that works for all parties to make sure communication is consistent. Please give us a call — we hope to hear from you soon.

My mother is at Bridges. The staff seems very involved, they know all the clients' first names. I think they have a total of 72 beds, so it's a smaller community. It's a pretty new facility, just two years old, and the rooms are setup into communities of 18 residents. They have a common dining area, living area, and the rooms go around the outside of that. The location is good, pretty close to major roads, and they have a yard for the residents, with walking paths and garden beds. They're a little more expensive, but it's all-inclusive pricing.

Provider Response

We're glad to hear your family's experience at Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull has been a positive one, and we're grateful to count your mother as part of our community. Please don't hesitate to let us know if there's anything we can do to make her experience even better — we'd love to hear from you. Thank you for taking the time to review us!

The quality of services here at the Bridges is personalized, respectful, professional, and implemented with such kindness. Not only are the residents' needs taken into consideration but also the family and/or the caregiver(s). It is a safe, happy, and positive environment that my dad and I are very happy to be a part of. Thank you everyone.

Provider Response

Excellent service with dedicated, caring staff. Mom is well cared for, happy, and safe. Excellent activities are provided for residents which is a bonus for enrichment purposes. Negative -- high turn-over of staff.

Provider Response
