My Father was there and overall it is a wonderful place. The staff is great and the rehab staff was awesome. Food was better than expected and everyone was so accommodating except for the nurse on the rehab unit. Nurse Lori was less than pleasant and was constantly arguing with the patients and talking to them in a demeaning manner. No empathy at all to my family and was more concerned with "chatting" with staff members instead of taking care of the patients.

The food was good, the aides were good. Clothing is habitually missing even though marked with patients' names and rooms. The excuse is the laundry staff does not speak English. Most importantly - It is impossible for the patient and family to get information from the nurses - when they are even available, they are rude and dismissive. Simple questions and requests about patient's condition, expected visits by doctor, treatment go unanswered. They do not listen to what you are asking.

My aunt is currently in Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center for short-term rehab. I know a lot about the place because my uncle was there several years ago, as well as a lot of our family members, and the nursing staff was spot on. My uncle even loved the food, and they responded to anything. Even now with my aunt, whenever I call them, they call me back within that day. I'm going to be having a phone conference on Wednesday, so they keep me abreast of everything every week. They also keep her very clean. Her nails are done and she loves her aides. The staff is very receptive, very caring, very kind, and treats their residents with dignity and compassion. The facility is very clean too. Medicare is paying for it now because she's in short-term rehab, but I think we get the value for the money because they are providing a lot of care with occupational and physical therapy.

I'm am so I pressed with the level of care since moving my mom here. She seems happier and looks so much better since moving her to Candlewood Valley in February. The staff call me and tell me when there is a concern or she has had a check up to let me know how she is doing. When things started going crazy due to Covid 19 they closed to family visiting before the state required it. They started the video chats before the state announced they could do this. I have recieved weekly emails updating me on how things are at the facility. They have not had any Covid casesbor deaths. The state and guard came in to test everyone and the facility recieved a clean bill of health!!

Candlewood Valley Health And Rehab is a very well-managed place. It didn't seem like a nursing home; it seemed more upbeat and positive. No one was crying or screaming, and everybody looked very content and happy. The crew that worked there was fabulous, so I was so taken back. The food is fabulous, and the condition of the building is really in good shape. They try to make it more homey there. The rooms were well put-together and has a personal touch, so I was really happy. The beds looked new, and they had taken all the carpets out, so now there's no carpet in the building and that makes it smell very good. They also have activities, like a lot of different art activities, bingo, and things like that. People come in and play the piano, and they get together to sing. It seemed like a home, not a nursing home, since it's not bleak or sad. Everybody smiles. They were having lunch when we were there, and the food smelled and looked fabulous, and everyone was eating. It was really nice. The community is located in a very beautiful part of Connecticut right across from a physician's building. They had courtyards with bird feeders so that in the spring, summer, and fall you can go out. It was really pleasant.

My mom is in Candlewood. I find the staff to be very caring and give a lot of attention to details. It is a little bit run down and a little bit older, but I think that shall not be a detraction because the staff is excellent. I think the amenities are adequate. In my case, I am looking for security with a door locking system. I find that to be very convenient in the way they can be accessible to loved ones to enter, and very secure for an Alzheimer's patient.
