Crossroads at Northglenn

My sister-in-law is at Crossroads at Northglenn. The community is fairly small. My aunt was there about six years ago, so I was kind of familiar with it. They seem to be on top of things. They have a lot of activities for the residents there. They're pretty much helpful as far as I can tell. My sister-in-law is very independent. She doesn't rely on anybody at any time, so this is a big change for her, but I think they're doing great. They have chair exercises every morning. They have a working group. They could walk around the whole facility inside. It goes like in a big square, so if the weather is bad outside, they have a place to walk. They have crafts. They go on like a Walmart run. Every once in a while, they'll say, 'If you want to go to Walmart, sign up.' They go out to lunch or dinner once in a while and you have to sign up for that. They have bingo. They have groups that come in to entertain. It's really good. They provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And if my sister-in-law wanted a snack in the afternoon before dinner, she could always go down and get something like yogurt, an apple, or something like that. They give a menu and if there's something on there that the resident doesn't like, they could always order a salad, a soup and sandwich, or something.

Let me tell you about a day in the life of my mom at Crossroads…..she wakes this morning not feeling well and headed for a migraine headache. An aide checks on her in the late morning and takes the time to tease her about being in bed all morning and takes the time to refuse her medications because “she is in and out of it” but doesn’t take the time to notice she is in full migraine mode. She leaves. No one checks on her again. I call and hear the sickness and pain in her voice at about 6 pm so I attempt to reach someone at the facility to get her some help. Management and activities do not work weekends and the staff that is there is insufficient at best. No surprise, no one answers, I call again, and again and again and again, as it is a sort of an emergency. The staff never answers but they take the time to block my phone number. I get in the car and head over. As I arrive someone is finally about to go in her room. The male aide can’t help her go to the bathroom and so he is trying to get a female….but they aren’t coming. I take over, excuse the male and help her myself. My son and I get her to the bathroom, get her something to drink and get her the migraine medicine so she so desperately needs. We stay for a short while, make sure she is resting and leave with a promise to communicate at 9 to make sure she is ok. My mother-in-law moved there a couple years ago. At first it seem nice. She did complain about the food not being good. Then Covid hit and they were in lockdown forever. Everyone was vaccinated and they were finally allowed out. They have no staff everyone has quit. My mother-in-law laid in her own filth for hours bringing the emergency bell for help and no one came to help her. They would leave her medication that she had to take at a regular hour every day on the sink. Not giving it to her in person and making sure she took it. On top of that they gave her someone else’s medication. She ended up with a UTI. Went to the ER where the doctor said there looks like elder abuse here. She was filthy dirty. She said she hadn’t had a bath in three weeks. This is not acceptable. A complaint will be filed. My mother-in-law had people looking in on her every day relatives. I feel sorry for the poor people that have no one to check on them. This place should be closed down

I can say that the staff genuinely care for the people living there. I never had to question whether or not things got done, whether that be from management, or care staff to houskeepers, and kitchen staff. The food was great and the atmosphere was homey. My brother loved it there, and when he got sick they made sure to help coordinate hospice care with a great team. Overall I think they do a great job and are compassionate people.

I couldn’t ask for a better place for my dad. He calls Crossroads home. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Management is very involved. Food and activities are amazing. My dad was not social and now I can never get him to answer his phone. When I visit he’s socializing and participating. Never in his room. Thank you Crossroads

I was at Crossroads at Northglenn. The place was nice, the rooms were nice, but the people weren't nice. I was one of the youngest people there, but the manager didn't like me. It was assisted living, and I paid $4,500 a month, but she wouldn't let anyone help me anymore. At first, they did it when I moved in, but then it kept getting worse and worse. I would ask for help but they would say, "We're not allowed to help you." It was crazy because they literally didn't do anything for me. Also, they weren't allowed to bring me food or anything. The food was absolutely horrible. They got a new cook, and they said that it was supposed to be getting better, but it got worse and worse. I spent money buying food even though I was paying for it there. It was just horrible. However, the activities were wonderful. The man that ran the activities was wonderful. He was totally the polar opposite of everyone else there. He was great. They had exercise classes, and they had people come in to play music. It was very nice. On Monday, we went on a bus to Walmart and that was really fun. Once a month we had lunches out at restaurants, which I always did so that I could get out of there.
