I toured Brookdale Broadmoor for my mom. It was a little dated and was kind of an older facility. The rooms were quite small, too, plus it was a little too far away from where I live. The staff member was fine. She was very nice, very friendly, and very professional, and the dining area looked fine to me.

I checked out the assisted living area of Brookdale Broadmoor. I met with the admissions person, his name was James, and I liked him a lot. He was very informative and very welcoming. The place seemed dark, kind of old, and dingy. Some of the residents sitting around there seemed not interactive. That was the impression that I got. I don't know too much about the staff, but just from what I have seen them, how they interact with the residents there, they seemed kind of not very warm. I think they have activities. I can't tell you what they were, but I think they try to engage their residents.

I went to see the memory care at Brookdale Broadmoor and the tour was wonderful. James was the person that I did the tour with, and he was knowledgeable, informative, thoughtful, caring, and very concerned for my sister's care. He greeted all of the patients that we met during the tour. He greeted them all by name, gave them hugs, and shook their hands. The nurses were kind and sweet, thoughtful, and loving. The place was clean, bright, and airy. I just can go on and on about how absolutely wonderful it is.

We went to Brookdale Broadmoor. The administrator was in a meeting, which I knew coming in, so he had somebody else give us a tour, and that's fine. The dining area was kind of small, and the recreational area was small. Things were not quite as clean and bright as the other facility. As we were touring, we saw a resident and we smiled at him. There were four halls in a square. We've turned a corner, and again, we saw him, and we turned the third corner, and there he was walking with his walker again. My husband said, 'Oh, are you doing laps?' He said, 'No, I'm lost.' The woman said, 'Oh, let me get somebody to help you.' She didn't say, 'What's your room?' She said, 'Wait here,' so she went and got somebody else to help him. I don't understand why she couldn't walk him down the hallway because it was a room just down the hallway from where we were. It might not be fair because this lady was not used to this side, and she was used to the other side, but I was not impressed by her saying, 'Let me get somebody else to help you because I was raised in a profession where somebody needs help, you stop what you're doing and you help them. You don't say, 'Hang on, let me find somebody to help you.' You try to help them first, and if you can't help them, then you get somebody to help you. It just hit me wrong. The dining room was small. The recreational room was small. The room the staff showed us was dark. It had a window, but it was just kind of a dark room. The prices weren't any better or worse than anything else we'd seen. We were just not impressed. It wasn't as big on the inside as it looked on the outside. I would want them to revisit the space they have. It might be an older area and the space that they had to, begin with, was not appropriate to what they need now. I would have them improve the dining area and improve the recreational area. They need to revisit their space allotment. It's very chopped up in there. Those were the two things that we did not like is how small the common areas were.

Brookdale Broadmoor seemed small to medium size, and it's quiet. I like the location and it just seemed comfortable. The staff was very nice, very competent, and very knowledgeable. It was very clean, manicured, and well-groomed. It seemed like a nice place. There was a hospital or a clinic nearby.

Brookdale Broadmoor has been very good about calling me and giving me updates on how my husband is doing, because with COVID I can't go see him. They've been really good about his care as far as calling me and letting me know if he falls or something. It's a very nice facility. He has a nice big private room that I furnished and made real homey, like pictures from home. So, he felt really comfortable and it's really homey, not so institutional like other facilities. It's close to Southgate mall, restaurants and several businesses. It's like 2 to 3 blocks from Brookdale. They have a really big enclosed courtyard with all kinds of trees, and it's very well-landscaped. His room looks out on that courtyard, which is private, and he has access outside when the weather is nice. The staff has been very thoughtful. They don't allow eating in the dining area yet, but from what I've seen, it's very nice and spacious. They have all kinds of activities, and he's been to a live entertainment. Because of COVID, they have eliminated a lot of stuff. It's cheaper than a nursing home, and he has a private room.
