I visited this facility

I toured The Lexington Assisted Living. The person I talked to, a guy named Patrick, was very helpful. He answered a lot of questions, and he was very helpful. The least thing I liked about it was that it felt clean, but it was just older. It's older things when you walk through, otherwise, it would have been nice. The room that the staff showed us was a studio, the cheapest one. It was very nice. It had a nice shower and everything. It hadn't been cleaned because somebody had just left, but the staff wanted to show us what room it would be if we decided we wanted to do that. The common areas were nice, but they didn't have too many common areas. They have one area outside that is by a pool and a Jacuzzi, which probably wouldn't be used by a lot of the residents. They have a few places where you could sit, and then they have a nice area where they get together for a meal. It was a nice area. We met the cook, and that was nice. The dining area was a big common area. It had a lot of different tables for people to talk and have their meals and stuff. It was nice but it was just old. It wasn't new or fresh. The stairs and everything were scruffy, and the carpet wasn't the greatest. It was just old.

I toured The Lexington Assisted Living. When you walk in, it feels like a hotel. You see seniors of all different levels of mobility and cognitive health. They are sitting in the waiting room and walking around. I saw a 1-bedroom and a 2-bedroom. They both were unfurnished. I was a little surprised with the outdated sinks and bathtubs. I was also surprised at the condition of them. Otherwise, everything else was in nice condition in the shared areas and common areas. They had a really nice dining room. They had a really fun ice cream parlor with a jukebox. They had insignias on the wall for Army, Navy, and Coast Guard. I know that would be very relevant for my dad, who was in the Army. It would be a positive thing for him. They also have a really big recreation room, where they do bingo and things like that. It was pretty fun. There was not really a kitchen or anything. There was a sink and a counter in the room, and there may have been a microwave oven or something like that. They eat all their meals in the dining hall. The 2-bedroom was just really two rooms. There was not a separate living room, kitchen, or anything like that. Ashley was very professional and efficient. She knew everything really well. She called and followed up later.

I toured The Lexington Assisted Living. The staff was professional and friendly. The facility was clean. The space in the apartment was nice. But I did not like the fact that it only had a small fridge. The place felt more closed in. It had a swimming pool, which was nice. It had laundry rooms, but it did not have a desirable outdoor space. The only place to walk was on the very busy street. They had similar types of menu offerings. It was okay, but compared to the other place, there's quite a difference. It was in the lower end of the price range also. It was nice, but it wasn't great. It didn't feel homey. It didn't have the spacious feeling that the other place had. For example, they have a gathering area where the fireplace was, but it was directly across from the entrance and the counter where people went up and asked questions, so it was busy there. It would be hard to relax in an area that had so much traffic. The staff was good though.

This facility is extremely expensive and I would have thought the care would reflect the cost. It has not. I moved a family member there a week ago and have already arranged to move her. My family member went without medication for over 24 hours, was not bathed and was manhandled by a staff member that did not speak English and therefore couldn’t understand she was twisting my family member’s arm. When these issues were brought to the attention of management, they were rude and dismissive.

I toured all the levels of care offered by The Lexington Assisted Living. I was introduced to several people along the way through the tour and I found them very personable and outgoing. The person giving the tour interacted with the residents by first name as well as with other employees. As we were walking along, she would introduce me to them. So, I found it to be a lively, friendly facility. The facility was great. They had a full range of activities. There's a monthly schedule posted all over the place of what's going on and where it would take place. They have a theater, a game room, a library, a gym, and all kinds of activity areas set up and ready to cater to one's needs.

I did a tour of The Lexington Assisted Living. They were willing to work with me to try to help get my mom to a place. I thought it was OK. The rooms were small. They had a place for people to get their hair done, just minimal stuff. It looked pretty clean. The people didn't really seem that happy there. I said hi to several residents multiple times, and nobody responded back. When I went to view another facility, the residents there were extremely happy. I think that says a lot. I'm still considering placing my mom there because financially, they're willing to work with me. I'm not finding that very much in other places.

My dad moved into The Lexington Assisted Living last Monday. They were very on board, very friendly, accommodating, and very caring. If I had any questions they answered. He seems to be enjoying his first week there, and he's making new friends. It's very clean and has good food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I can't say enough. So far, it's been very good. I know it's only been a week, but it's a nice place for the money too. He's staying in their independent living right now. They have bingo, a movie theater, a game room, a library, a swimming pool, and a spa.

I had an in-person tour of The Lexington Assisted Living. I liked the accommodations that they made. The initial marketing representative was out due to an unforeseen circumstance, so another staff was able to meet, greet, and give us a tour. I thought that the teamwork and collaboration were good, which was important. The rooms were interesting. It seemed like they were older and not quite up to date. Some rooms had been refurbished with new flooring, and other rooms were scheduled for some updates. It was studios and one-bedroom apartments that we were looking at. There was an interesting room that had a long closet. The facility seemed like it had enough room and amenities as far as the dining hall. They had a salon, physical therapy, pool, and library. The staff was kind, well-spoken, hospitable, and friendly.

The Lexington Assisted Living was lovely. I liked that they had a pool (my mom likes to get in one to do some stretches/exercises). The rooms were nice-sized. Everything was meticulously clean. The residents seemed to be very happy, friendly, and motivated. I liked that they were all very busy doing their little thing, excited to go to the lunchroom and visit. It was a very positive place. The staff smiled, greeted you, and made sure you had a seat while you were waiting. They were just as polite and attentive as they could be. I saw some residents' rooms, they had their doors open, and they were clean as well as the empty rooms. My mom could have her own dresser, a TV, and whatever she wanted. They also discussed the availability of the food so that she would have things to get her through the night with her diabetes and everything. It was great.

My mother has moved to The Lexington Assisted Living, and there are a lot of things that I like about the place. The staff members are very helpful, especially in the beginning with how afraid we all were to move her in. We had a lot of support. It's beautiful there, they have a lot of activities, and my mom loves the food there. She's picky about food, she's a food snob, and she loves it. The staff is really good with her. She doesn't speak English very well so they've gone out of their way to be just really supportive and helpful. She loves the activities. They have cooking classed, art classes, movies, and bingo. She's very active and they keep her very busy there. The value for the money is very reasonable there compared to other places.

We toured The Lexington Assisted Living. It was very clean. The staff was friendly. The room that we looked at was a studio. If it had had new carpet and new paint, it would have been perfect for what we would have wanted. The dining room was nice. It had a pool, not that my father would ever use that. It's an older place but it's well kept up, and the people we met were very nice. The staff was very friendly and very thorough.

I went to The Lexington Assisted Living in Ventura and I liked it a lot. We were looking for assisted living. She was able to do a lot of things on her own, but she'd need help with showering and things like that. They just showed me a room, it was a studio apartment. They also told me the different levels, like the entry-level, meaning independent. There were 3 levels, I think. They told me all about assisted living too and how much that would cost. The staff was great and I like him. The tour was good, he showed me around, explained the things I wanted, and took his time. I got the prices and the pricing was pretty good, too. I just wanted to know what the facility looked like, what the room would look like, and the pricing. I know the place is reputable, it's been there for a while and I have never heard anything bad about it. The place appeared nice, both the lobby and the rooms were nice. I saw 2 rooms and I thought it was nice. They had a pool that was a big one too.

I saw the memory care unit of The Lexington Assisted Living and it's not as elaborate as the other facility we went to. It's an older place, but it was clean. The rooms were smaller, but adequate for what would be needed. The dining area was just a small room too. There wasn't a gathering room that I saw unless they went out front. They just had space outside, and there wasn't any room where you could go and sit at a TV. I didn't notice any of that unless it was on the other side. The person who was supposed to tour us was at a meeting, so he had this other lady, who was one of the nurses, that was put on the spot and she did well. Since it's a small place, they don't accommodate as many people, at least in memory care. They could probably take 10 people in there. They had a couple of rooms that people could share and then they had a couple of private rooms.

The Lexington Assisted Living was not clean. All of the guests were being served all their meals in their rooms. They had not reopened the dining room, and they were capable of opening it up to a limited number of people, but they didn't. They were not engaging with guests at all. They're there to collect money. They couldn't care less about who's there. The rooms were not clean. It's just an older place.

I hated The Lexington. It was just depressing and dark. I didn't see anybody walking around. I saw one person sitting outside and the rest of the people were maybe in their rooms. Some of the rooms were open, and I could see stains on the carpet. I couldn't wait to get out of there. The staff member was very nice, but he took me up to a floor to show me a room and he was confused about which direction the room was in. If you've been working there for a while, you would know the room numbers. It didn't jive with me. He gave me a packet, but I stayed for less than 15 minutes. I saw some people in their rooms because the doors were opened and that's when I noticed the dirty carpet. The dining area was dark. The lights were off because it's not being used right now, but there's no good natural light. They had the pool and the spa, which seemed kind of ridiculous for that age group, and nobody was in them. There was one person sitting in a chair in the sun. Other than that, I didn't see anybody other than the people that were in their rooms. On the second level there was an outdoor patio with some chairs, but there were no plants and no color. They need to revamp, and if there are stains in the carpet, they either need to replace them or deep clean them. It's on a busy street, too.

You have to be very independent to live in The Lexington Assisted Living. They don't even have anyone on-staff that can come in and deliver pills to you or any of that. They have shuttles that bring you to mass, to the grocery store, or to your doctors' appointments. It is very large. I met one of the women who was fully walking around without any type of cane or assistance, and she seemed very happy. However, it is very much for someone who is independent.

The actual cost prior to my mother actually moving into the facility. We had a price list of the basic cost based on the kind of room she could afford, however we still did not know what level of care my mother would be afforded at that cost. We got spooked by the assistance cost list and I heard from my sister that the facility required a medical evaluation by my mother's doctor where her doctor would recommend a certain level of care and then my mother would be given an evaluation prior to her moving in by the facility staff. Once again, we were unsure of what impact those medical evaluations would have on the cost of the recommended care that would be required based on the medical evaluations. As my mother's care giver, I got scared that the cost would go up quickly and so we decided not to go in. I actually need to go back and get my concerns answered by the administrators at the facility, because we did like the facility overall based on staff and room.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We understand how stressful it can be when it comes to care costs at assisted livings. The Lexington is actually one of the few that can give you an estimate prior to the resident moving in. We would be happy to sit down with you and learn about your mother’s needs and let you know how the process works here. We also would be happy to meet with your mother and do a free assessment so you will know exactly what the monthly cost will be.

The Lexington was fabulous. It was almost like a resort more than it was an assisted living complex. It had putting green. It had outside barbeque, a swimming pool, and a spa. The rooms were really well outfitted. They were like little apartments. It was just a really nice place. The amenities were top notch. Everything about the interior was extremely well maintained. It was outstanding. However, we could not afford it because my brother was on a fixed income.

I visited one local facility -- Lexington -- and it was very nice and affordable even. They gave me a free lunch and showed me around. There were people my age, and it was very secure, very clean, and very professional. The rooms were very nice. They were furnished, carpeted, air-conditioned, and nice view. It was fairly close to the town, and they had buses to go for group things. The grounds were adequate and were well-kept.

I liked the directness and honesty of the staff at the Lexington. The place seemed happy enough; however, the people in the memory care did not look happy. I noticed that there is nursing care next door.

Provider Response

Our memory care residents at the Lexington are given 24 hour care. Many residents often become agitated or anxious from time to time. He or she may become restless, causing a need to move around or pace or when focused on specific details. Our experienced staff are quite skilled and patient at listening, providing reassurance and diverting his or her attention by using redirection. The skilled nursing facility next door does not provide care for those diagnosed with dementia. One resident who was going through a difficult stage in the progression of Alzheimer’s Disease was soothed by the caregiver gently massaging her shoulders and a nice smile appeared on her face.

We visited The Lexington, and it looked fine. The lady that helped us was very informative. The people seemed to be happy there. It was clean. You would have to get a geriatric psych evaluation to come in. We didn't expect that you would have to do that, and it was nice to gather that kind of information.

I think The Lexington and its assisted living was wonderful. It has a lot of common areas that are beautiful, spacious, and beautifully decorated. You could see people interacting. If my mother was able to do assisted living, I would have her go here as it was wonderful. The staff was good and on top of things. The people that were there appeared to be able to have a lot of independence and seemed happy and engaged. It was very well-kept. They have televisions for movies. It was top-notch. I was not excited about the memory care. It was very small, which can be good for people with memory care because they don’t have a lot of area to have to navigate. It was not that bright in that little area, which wasn’t that great. It smelled a lot like urine in that place. The staff was wonderful. The patient rooms were nice, but the common or gathering area, which I noticed people spent a lot of time in, felt cramped to me as opposed to what I saw in other places. I just didn’t like the memory care.

I visited The Lexington for my father. It was better because it was, like, five minutes from my work, so it would have been convenient. They had different levels of care. They had a nice dining room. We had lunch there with the person when we had the tour. They had a newly renovated movie theater. They had a nice patio up on one of the rooms. It was really nice. The rooms were all nice. They had several different sizes, and they all looked like they would be nice. The staff was very friendly. Actually, I had to wait a little bit for my tour, so I saw the staff interacting with the people going in and out of the building, and everybody seemed very nice and friendly. Everybody knew everybody's name. There were some people doing crafts. They actually had an activity director there, and that was nice. They make sure that everybody was involved in something.

The rooms were nice. They were mainly one big room; some of them had sinks that you could kind of transform into a little kitchenette. I don't think they had balconies though, and that was the one thing I didn't care for. They were so enclosed and didn't have outside space, so you were always inside. I really liked it as far as the atmosphere. Everything was great, and there was nothing wrong with Lexington. The dining area was nice and very clean. It just felt like they were boxed in, but I would recommend it because some people don't care about that. They don't care about being outside or having a place to garden or sit in the balcony or anything like that. It seemed a great deal for the price that they quoted me, so I thought it was very nice. And everyone was very pleasant and very accommodating.

I was there at The Lexington, and they didn't have a spot open. I didn't really tour the place because I had already decided on where my dad is going, but the lady there that I spoke with who maybe is in charge of admission was the best. She was the best I talked to out of everyone. She was so helpful. That was a really nice thing. She really took a lot of time knowing that my dad probably wasn't even going to go there. She spent a lot of time talking me through the process, so that is always a huge thing. She made an appointment and let me come in and talk to her. I was there probably longer than most of the other places I looked at. I didn't see most of the facility. It was nice, but I just saw the lobby, and I didn't really look into any rooms, but the lady there was very nice and helpful. It was nice. It was well taken care of, and the premises were really nice. I just felt she was the best, and knowing that someone like that is there in a place helping my dad made me felt really good.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mom is a current resident of The Lexington. Regarding the facility itself, I really like the idea that it has a pool in the center of it, so that made a huge difference in the sense of it feeling more like a resort living. They also have a couple of different patio areas. She has only been there since October 19th. At that time of the transition, it was very stressful for the family, not just for my mom. However, they helped us and made the move easy. When we had trouble, like something mechanical, they had someone up there to help us. They just made the transition easy even if it was out of their norms. They went the extra mile. They're just wonderful! Everybody from the cook, the chef, the CNAs, etc., they were wonderful and have been helpful. I ate there probably once or twice a week with my mom and I found the food to be very good. They have a very fresh salad bar and residents are given choices. If they don't like the two entrees that are on, they'll bring them a sandwich. If they're in the mood for a hotdog, they'll fix them one and they don't argue with them. If Mom wakes up and just feeling a little overwhelmed, she'll ask that a tray be brought to her room, and they'll go that extra mile and they'll take a tray up to her room. With regards to participating in any activities, since she is still making the adjustment, the answer would be more than not. However, she's gone to bingo and she's eating in the dining room. Also she joined the Halloween thing with all the kids.
