I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Do Not Send Your Loved Ones!!! The staff there does not readily answer their phones so you can’t talk with your loved ones. They do not ensure that the patients get phone calls and at best simply transfer the calls into the room without ensuring the patients receive the call. My mom was rushed to the hospital and did not have her cell phone and was scheduled to be in transition for several days so she did not have her cell phone with her. The staff is unfamiliar with the special circumstances of the patients (except for the nurse director and doctors) and gives only general information, while not taking accountability of their services. My mom needs to practice walking, they will not even upon her request. My mom needs monitoring of various infections she has contrived In the recent past, when asked how are they doing this I got the answer on several occasions from several People that it is something that just happens after she contracted infections while in their care. They often deflect issues and can become argumentative. They do not follow up on requests that I have made to ensure my mom’s health is well and consistent with other Doctors’s orders. They have so many different people and titles involved with the process who do not communicate with each other well nor have they communicated well with me. It is the most inhospitable and unsafe place to have a loved one transition. Unfortunately, many facilities of this nature have the same customer service. I wish hospitals would take more accountability when referring patients to these facilities and not use them; I know they would not send their own relatives. Please stay away from Baycrest if you value your loved one’s well being.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband had a bad stroke in 2016. He was sent to this facility for physical therapy. The department did not know how to handle a paralyzed stroke patient. The physical therapy he receives was subpar. He is now in their long term care facility due to partial paralysis. He had diabetes type 2. The diet is inadequate for a diabetic. He is suppose to get daily range of motion exercise. That happens about once every two weeks if he is lucky. He isn’t gotten up early enough in the morning and there is very little activity. The ratio of CNA’s and LVN’s is inadequate for proper care of the patient. I have had him rushed to the emergency room because he was being over medicated or he had fallen out of the wheelchair. There are some excellent CNA’s and LVN’s working there however they are overwhelmed and some are burnt out. From what I have seen this is true of most Long Term Care facility’s and the industry as a whole needs to be reformed. One CNA for 13 to 15 patients and one LVN for 38 patients is not a proper ratio. They don’t have time to monitor the patient and make sure they are healthy.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I had my grandmother in this facility for less than a month. I overall cannot complain about the care she recieved. Their rehab department was fantastic and helpful, they were even willing to show me excerises and streches i could do with her while i visited which was great. The nurses were rushed when speaking or seemed like they had other things on their mind but they are handling so many other patients care as well. I'm just glad i was able to find a place that wasnt so bad compared to all the other horror stories i have read.

I visited this facility

Baycrest Care Center provides an average level of care to their patients. This facility is an older facility that features adequate and basic patient rooms. The facility admosphere demonstrates a very busy environment and the staff appear to be consumed with continuous patient care. This facility is clean and overall, appears acceptable and comfortable.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

When I first arrived at this living facility, I was impressed of the number of staff they had on duty. I looked around and it seemed very clean and organized. Once in the room with my grandmother, I asked her how she was holding up in here. She said that it actually wasn't bad, other than at night some of the nurses would take a little long to answer her buzz. I asked her if she'd been fed and bathe on schedule and she said yea. I looked around her room and it looked pretty clean. My grandmother suffers with Alzheimer's disease so, I know a lot of things she may have forgotten to mention. I asked the charge nurse if there had been any issues and she said no. I wrote down a few things to add to her list of food, that she could eat and I went home. Overall, it was a very positive experience and I am glad my grandmother is safe and well taken care of.
