I visited this facility

My brother will be moving into Silvergate San Marcos. We enjoyed the tour guide. David was very open and told us what was going on. He got us to tour some rooms that people said they were OK with us looking into. We felt whatever he said, he was telling us the truth about things. My brother went with us and he was just amazed because we had an experience with my mom and it was not a good one. We were very impressed with it. It's pricey. It's more expensive than most of them that we looked at, but it's worth it. It's a huge facility, but in the memory care, they're all single rooms, which were bedrooms with baths. Then, there's a large one, but there's no sharing. There are no roommates. Some things wouldn't apply to my brother because he's pretty much blind now, so they have a lot of art things that they do. When we got there, they were all doing an exercise in the chair and they said they do that once or twice a week. My brother is a musician, and he really wanted someplace where he could take his guitar and amplifier. He talked to the tour guide, and he said, "Oh, yeah, we'll set it up right here" and that made my brother happy. He's resisting going, but he'll be happy once he gets there. My brother also has problems walking, so there's a walkway on the first floor, right out there, and very pretty gardening things and places to sit. You can walk quite a ways if you want and it ends of course back coming into the facility. It's very convenient and it's concreted, so there are no bumps to trip on. There's nothing wrong with the place. The other thing I liked about Silvergate is that they would transport my brother to a doctor's appointment if that's what he wanted or they had an in-house doctor, so he had a choice.

My Mom has been living at Silvergate for over a year now. We have only experienced great things here. Her home is a beautiful 2 room apartment that she has decorated with her own furniture which makes it more comfortable. I can not say enough good things about the staff here they are so caring and very patient with my Mom. They come and clean her room once a week and do her laundry so nice. The food is very good and served like you would be in eating at a restaurant. They are always keeping the residents busy, exercise classes, outings every week, games every day, parties with entertainment, and the list goes on. You will never be bored at Silvergate. Our family is very happy that we found Silvergate.

My family is so very pleased with SIVERGATE! My parents have a lovely two bedroom apartment, wonderful meals in a beautiful dining room, housekeeping, laundry, fun things going on…and the kindest, most helpful staff! It’s all about the people. My mom always says, “Getting old isn’t for sissy’s”. She’s right, but the staff at SILVERGATE treat them like family, and we all appreciate it!

Provider Response

Our residents ARE FAMILY! Thank you for recognizing that. Being locally owned and operated by a family creates this in ways that other larger corporate run communities can ever emulate.

My mom moved into Silvergate about 4 months ago and I am so glad she did. Silveragate has given my brother and me the peace of mind that Mom is being given all the support she needs. Her apartment is adorable, spacious, and bright. There are plenty of activities at her disposal so she can be as busy as she chooses. In addition with the tiered support options I can rest assured that Mom is getting what she needs, when she needs it. The staff are all amazing and supportive. I haven't met anyone who doesn't make the residents at the Independent/Assisted living community feel welcome and cared for. Plus, I am so grateful for the security offered by Silvergate, knowing that someone cannot just walk up to her door and that the front desk knows when she leaves and returns is such a comforting thing.

Provider Response

This family member is so correct - by their mom moving now she has given her and her brother peace of mind which is such a gift! When children or loved ones are unburdened with serving as caregivers, they can simply continue being loved ones.

Silvergate San Marcos has been my home for 1 year and 5 months. I have been very happy here and I think I made a good choice. The staff is available to hear your concerns and will help if possible. The caregivers, servers in the dining room and medical people call you by name. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining room. This is a good time to socialize and meet new residents. The food is very good and plentiful. There are many activities available along with fun trips outside the residence. I love my spacious one-bedroom apartment. Each room has a large window looking out to the outside. It includes a kitchen area, two bathrooms and three closets. I love living here and would highly recommend Silvergate to anyone looking for great place to spend the rest of their retirement.

Provider Response

We love having this resident here and we know all our residents by name and their personal story. This attention to detail is one of many things that sets Silvergate apart from the other larger corporate run communities in the area.

My Mother has been here since June 2022. I saw a change in her within a few weeks. She is so happy and engaged with the staff and other residents. This facility really succeeds in having activities and social events for the residents. They even had miniature horses come visit. Thank you to all the wonderful staff!

Provider Response

Great feedback Jeannine so happy to hear. And yes those miniature ponies were pretty cool - giddy up!

We recently moved our 96 year old Mother into Silvergate San Marcos. Mom didn’t want to move, but she agreed to. While she was still at her home, she was saying that she was ready ‘to go’. After a week at Silvergate, she is saying she has a new lease on life and thinks she can make it to 100! I stayed with her at Silvergate to help get her settled and I am very impressed. Everyone that works there is very kind and compassionate, it feels like a family. The food is delicious and there are always activities to fill the day. Thanks to Silvergate for creating such a caring, nurturing environment. Debi V.

Silvergate San Marcos was fabulous. It had beautiful rooms, the people were lovely, and it had great accommodations. If I had to go someplace, I'd go there in a heartbeat. The person who gave the tour was lovely, she was very informative, very sweet, and a very nice young lady. I haven't tried the food but the menus looked great. They told us what they do and the features that they have there. They have a wine tasting room which was fabulous. It's near a school and that was one of the downfalls because when you're sitting outside you can hear the noise from the school.

Provider Response

Thank you Patricia for the great review and feedback. Yes we are near a school that you can hear part of the day but not always. Great having you visit with us!

The layout is very different at Silvergate San Marcos. It's more of a neighborhood type of layout, so there are no long hallways. There are general meeting rooms and the bedrooms kind of flank the main section. We really liked that setup because there's no wandering. There's no need for your loved one to wander the halls, wondering where they need to go. Everything is very close to their rooms. We liked that. The staff was very nice. We did not taste the food, but they were having lunch when we were there. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. I did not see any activity going on because it was lunchtime. They have a very full activity calendar that the staff shared with us. I can see they do a lot of things like singing, religious bible chats, and all kinds of things.

Provider Response

Thank you Deborah for visiting and the nice and accurate review. We really do love our neighborhood concept - it's one of a kind here in San Diego!

I visited this facility

Silvergate San Marcos was a nice facility. I liked how they set up the residents in pods, but that means people don't interact too much. I just didn't feel as if there was as much outdoor space for them to interact with each other. I didn't really interact with the staff. I only talked to the sales manager, David. I think we really need to interact with more than just the sales manager, because as soon as you buy something, you don't see the sales guy anymore but all the other people. That's why I want to get to know the other staff first. I only saw a shared room, and my mom seemed a little reluctant about that -- the thought of having someone else moving into her room. There was some furniture already, but it was sort of beat up, which I can understand. It's just a typical room, and it didn't look like any effort had been made to make it homey for the other residents.

Provider Response

Our residents DO interact with the other pods during larger activities but prefer to stay in their own pods during downtime because this is more peaceful for them. I see our families and our Suites Memory Care residents ALL the time - my office is right here in that community. Lastly, families choose to set up their rooms as they see fit and sometimes use older furniture that is cozy and sentimental to their loved ones. Trying to impress others isn't the priority as much as making their mom or dad comfortable. We also offer spacious private rooms if a shared room isn't preferable.

Our friends are very happy that they chose Silvergate San Marcos. They enjoy the gourmet meals, caring and friendly staff and the beautiful facilities. There are many activities to choose from daily. There are lots of meal choices and the holiday buffet table is a wonderful sight with decorations and food. They have a lovely apartment with a separate bedroom and living room with a beautiful garden patio. The staff is friendly and attentive and always helpful. It’s great to have peace of mind to know they are happy and well cared for!

Provider Response

We love having them here and thankful that friends like you swing by and spend time with them and join us on outings like the Padre Game that we all went to! Silvergate is about family and friends - thanks for being an important part of that.

I thought Silvergate San Marcos did a very professional job. It was definitely a facility that we would consider for my mom, if we get to that point. We looked at a 1-bedroom apartment which was spacious and actually had two baths. They have a library, a TV room, a dining room, a big reception area, and an exercise room. The residents seemed to be active and doing activities, so it was very nice.

Provider Response

Thanks again for stopping by - we are currently offering safe guided tours 7 days a week so please feel free to call me anytime to schedule one!

The building's exterior has just been repainted and they replaced the awnings, they are continuing to make improvements to the inside of the building, the staff is very friendly and the community feels like a big family. Because of the correct social distancing precautions the residents have not been locked down and even have live entertainment. We always enjoy visiting.

Provider Response

As a family we have pulled together and are making the most of this challenging season. Thank you for the nice review and your faith in us as a small organization!

Silvergate Memory Care has provided an extremely caring environment for my aged mother who lives there with Advanced Dementia. Staff have closely monitored my mother's physical health and quickly notify me as they see changes or new services required for her health and comfort. We viewed seven other memory care facilities before choosing Silvergate as it best suited our family's need to see our loved one in an environment where she would be comfortable. Recently, she told visitors that she was happy that she "never had to go into a nursing home" so we know we made the right decision.

Provider Response

We too are glad that Mom will never have to go into a nursing home. We can provide all the care that a loved will ever need here at Silvergate!

Silvergate is a wonderful place. Both my father and mother have been or are residents in San Marcos for the past 8 years. The important things (food, care and safety) are great. I guess the only unfavorable comment I’d make is that over the years, the staffing levels have declined causing phone calls and emails to not be returned quite as quickly as they were years ago. But they don’t hesitate to raise the rent every year... All in all, we know it is a business and they need to make a reasonable profit. If I had another parent to place, I would without hesitation consider Silvergate a great option.

Provider Response

This is great feedback and I will bring it to our management and staff’s attention right away it’s definitely fixable thank you so much for the great review!

My mother was a resident at Silvergate for 7 years. We loved that she was there and was able to interact and makes friends in a wonderful environment. She loved the Exercise Classes, Bible Readings, and special events that were scheduled regularly. They have a beautiful center Courtyard so that residents can sit out in the shade and visit with friends and family. Their buffets for all the Holidays were delicious! I have a very good lady friend staying in Silvergate. During this Pandemic time, it is the safest place she can be. I'm so glad she is there. Her rooms and living quarters are lovely and a good fit for her. She has had to ask for half portions since the meals are so good she started to gain weight. A nice problem, eh? The team is doing its best to keep the folks happy and entertained during this awful time in our history. To sum it up, this is the very best place my lady friend can be!

The decision to move our beloved Mom in to an Assisted Living environment was not easy by any measure and moving her to the Memory Care when it was clear that she needed the extra care was not either. However, the wonderful and extraordinary staff and crew at Silvergate San Marcos made that decision easier for us and more importantly gave us all the reassurance that our lovely Mom would be taken care of, loved and watched over with tender, compassionate and professional care. Thank you Silvergate!!

My Dad is a current resident at Silvergate. The staff is very kind, knowledgeable, respectful and caring. They know the names of all the residents and greet them by name. The activities are wonderful as well. Lots of music, dancing, popcorn parties and crafts. There is an outdoor walking path that my Dad and i walk on with well manicured plants and a large gazebo that he likes to sit under. The food there is quite delicious as my dad loves food!! It truly is the best place around!

This is the home that allows you to sleep at night and continue with your normal life feeling at ease and relaxed that your parent are happy and being well cared for. My parents were in assisted and memory care. Finding Silvergate was as exciting as a parent feels when they have found the right school or program for their precious kids. I was now the parent and Silvergate makes me smile and proud to this day to say my parents enjoyed everyday till their last day with me. Because of the actitives and care, I was able to enjoy my time with my parents and Silvergate did the work to care for us with the excellent staff. Before choosing Silvergate I had visited over 20 facilities and Silvergate was #1

We chose Silvergate San Marcos for my mom and myself because several other people where we presently live have gone there and they said they like it a lot. The fellow who represented Silvergate, David Nelson, was very personable. He was the major contributing factor in our decision. The staff was very friendly and personable, so we had a positive experience. The food is very good. The rooms are basically studios that can be adjusted to fit our needs, so we have two studios that are connected by a door in the middle. It would be nice though to have a little more space.

My uncle moved into the memory care unit at Silvergate San Marcos. It’s set up in clusters so each bedroom opens right into the living and dining space, so there's not a whole lot of walking. They offer activities like singing, music, and road trips. They offer three meals a day and snacks. They do the laundry. The caregivers could be a little bit more personable and involved.

Silvergate San Marcos has really wonderful staff, and my visit was great. I like that the place is a little smaller and not too big. It's well-maintained and everyone was super friendly. The 1-bedroom that we were interested in was really great, and it was the biggest one we saw, which is wonderful. The person who showed us around was amazing. It was the best tour we've had. They have the standard activities, someone would come in to exercise, watch movies, there are beauty salon appointments, and they take the residents out shopping and so on. They provide three meals a day, and they have an anytime dining type of thing. So if you want to go with a traditional lunch or dinner they have a menu that you can order off any time of the day.

We just moved mom into Silvergate San Marcos. It's a good place. It's small with 92 people instead of over 100, so that's nice. It's in a really nice location compared to some of the others. The other Silvergate was remote and far away from a lot of the activities, doctors' offices, and shopping. This place is smaller and it just seemed closer to what she was looking for. It's very family oriented, which means the people there kind of adopt each other. They take care of each other, they watch out for each other, and they play with each other. It's just a real close community. She is upstairs in a unit that is far from the elevator and there's only one elevator. She has to walk a long way to get to the elevator and at 92 that's a little tough, but she's doing it. She's on a list to move into a unit downstairs that's closer to everything. The staff is wonderful. The food is absolutely delicious, and even though it's plenty of food, there are only two choices. There's something going on all day every day. It's just a little expensive.

Silvergate San Marcos was OK, but we weren't that impressed with it. It was definitely not on the top of our list. It seemed like an older facility. They didn't really have the amenities that some of the others have and the location wasn't terrific. It didn't appeal to us.

We are an older facility but you have to come and see the newly remodeled lobby, courtyard, movie theatre just to name a few things. Sorry we weren't the best location for them. Others love just how close we are to local shopping - right across the street!

Silvergate San Marcos was a beautiful place. The rooms were nicer than the other rooms we had seen. The low end of the price was within our range, but when we got in there, we learned that they had a lot of added expenses like in medication, and everything was an add on. The facility looked very nice, but it was out of our price range. It looked more like a hotel.

I like Silvergate San Marcos because they are like in a village system. The bedrooms open to a center living room rather than residents walking down the long narrow hallway, which I think would scare Alzheimer's people. This seems more like a home environment. They offer someone there 24 hours, and a nurse is always on duty at night, which is important to me. They are very caring. They organized a piano recital, and it was interesting to watch the nurses work with the patients to get them to agree to go watch it. They're very patient and very caring. My brother has not yet moved in, but we're on the list.

We found Silvergate in San Marcos. I like the way it is run and I like the fact that it is not like a national organization. There are only two or three facilities and the owner is hands-on. They have activities my mom wanted. It is better for independent living than some of the others even though it has the option where you do need more care. It is really good for my mom. As per my mom’s conversation, she said the food is not as good as her old place, but it is getting better. She thinks the people at Silvergate are much friendlier, too.

Silvergate had really good pricing, but they were definitely the oldest facility I've seen. Unfortunately for me, the location did not feel very secure in that area. It looked like an apartment complex. The rooms were on the small size. Their shower was basically an old plastic tub, but they cut down the side so you could step in. It was like four or five inches off the ground, which my mother-in-law could not step up onto at all.

Silvergate had wide, open spaces for people to wander, especially in memory care. The assisted living is separate from memory care, and that’s great. Everything was great. Their rooms were great and spacious. The memory care rooms were shared rooms, which is fine, with a divider at the middle that makes a huge difference. The head nurse of the caregivers really tried to partner up the roommates with someone on the same level of memory care needs. The assisted living facility has small kitchenettes so to speak, and balconies. They had a big laundry room and the services that you wanted.

I have been to Silvergate and liked everything about it except the location. I thought the rooms were very nice, not as modern as some of the others, but very adequate. They didn't have a view. They just looked out on another building and that was disturbing to me. I don't want to live like that. There were very little grounds. There's an extremely small center courtyard, but you just come out the door and you're on the road. Beyond the building, it was just parking lots and other buildings. I liked everything else about it. The people working there seemed to be very caring and gave a really good impression.

Provider Response

Hi Bridgette – thank you for visiting our community here in San Marcos. Yes we might not have the best views – the building is where it is. Yet inside it has been completely remodeled and is very quaint and cozy – our residents love it. We hope you find a community with fantastic view for you!

We looked at Silvergate San Marcos. I’m looking for a smaller place for my mother, and Silvergate was perfect. We had a room and everything, so I brought her down, but she said, “That’s nice but I’m not moving.“ The staff was very nice. I think the marketing manager showed us around; it was very nice. The rooms are very nice. The living room area has a shower and a toilet, and a bedroom has a shower and a toilet. We like the one that has a little patio and my mom likes that because she wants to sit outside. It was very nice, and it was what we were looking for. They have bridge, they have discussion groups, and they are doing exercise with a group. I like the community because it is small, it is very clean, and everybody knows each other.

We visited Silvergate, and it looked fine. The rooms were fine, but it's a little older facility.

Provider Response

Thanks for touring with us. We recognize the age of our quaint community but are always investing back into the building. Be sure to ask about recent renovations and capital improvements!

Silvergate Retirement Residence seems fine. They were certainly very easy to work with. I like the layout that they have which is kind of individual. It makes it smaller and makes it quieter. I didn't choose them because I just didn't get a good feel for the care workers. They seemed nice, and I liked the cost. I think the cost is really nice. I can't tell why; there is just something about the staff that I didn't get a good enough feeling about. They are pretty good. They are just not quite right for me.

Provider Response

Our layout is very unique in this industry. It's unfortunate this reviewer did not get a good feel about our care workers. We have a very low turn over rate here at Silvergate due to the local ownership that holds on to great employees. It's all about the right fit and we hope this reviewer found what they were looking for.

I like Silvergate San Marcos very much. I have been going over there for quite a while with several people from my village. It is a very clean and very friendly community. Everybody there is very friendly. They make you feel welcome. They have all kinds of activities and we were even invited to attend some of them. Just recently, we went to their luau party and I had fun there. We were also invited to some of their trips. I've also tried eating there and food is good.

The administrative staff is cold, and does not take accountability for their mistakes. I have also found the administrator to be condescending. She needs to do her homework before if she feels she needs to tell a pharmaceutical executive what ADLs stand for! The people working with the residents all seem very nice, but that does not make up for the lack of compassion in the administration office....

Provider Response

Thank you for the feedback – this is in regards to one employee that is no longer with us. We apologize for this and we feel we have struck gold with our newest Executive Director – we think you will agree!
