My mother was transferred from Long Beach Memorial Hospital to Catered Manor for rehab after spine fracture in early Mar 2022. She passed away the end of Mar after 3 weeks at that facility. The staff did minimum work during the pandemic locked down, no visitors for about 10 days. My mother had advance dementia therefore she could not talk, request anything. They did not allow my mother family doctor to come to the facility to take care of her but the facility Dr. Doan. She was transferred to Saint Mary hospital in a terrible pneumonia status and passed away. The first 100 days will be paid by social security, please make sure that you visit several facilities prior to make decision, especially old people. This facility value financial interest over patients care

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother-in-law has been unreachable for the past 24 hours. I call and asked if someone could please check on her to make sure that she is ok. Other family members have tried to get in touch with her also. I was just told, that when Melissa gets back from lunch she will phone me. Not me, I’m going to call the state and file a big complaint now. Also I’m all the way in New York! They just gave me an unacceptable answer.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

This is the second time my Mother has been in this facility. The first time was a little over five years ago and the facility was decent so when she broke her arm we had her placed there for rehab. In this age of Covid19 patents are unable to have family visitors which is understandable the problem is that for 85 patents there are only 2 phones available. That's right there are no phones in the rooms only 2 cordless phones that are passed around for everyone to use. On top of that the staff doesn't keep track of phones and its all but impossible to get through. There is NO communication from nurses or rehab staff either. I am sure they are short staffed but even when I insisted on talking to a nurse or therapist about my mothers case I got next to nothing from them. For all I know my mother is getting NO help here at all.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My cousin is currently a patient there right now. She was in the hospital for a while and was sent there for therapy. We were hesitant at first because of all the bad things we hear happening in nursing homes. But the staff is very friendly. She enjoys her rehab sessions too. She goes home this week. I'm so happy she was sent here.

My sister was at this facility for therapy after being hospitalized. She fell at home and needed to get stronger. The therapy staff was excellent. They motivated her to work harder. The nursing staff did good. There were some times she feel like she waited a little to get her light answered, but I get that it gets busy some times especially during the day time. Her dr saw her every day and she felt like she got the care she needed to get home safe. I am happy with the care!

My friend is in Catered Manor. All nursing care is expensive but compared to other places that I have seen, it is clean and neat, and they are also very helpful. The staff people have all been very friendly, particularly the social services staff. The patients themselves are extremely happy to be there. The rooms are adequate, not ostentatious or anything, and there are usually three beds in the unit.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I came here to visit my friend who was sick and needed therapy and IVs. The nurses were very attentive and the rehab therapy staff were very active with my friends care. He went to the dining hall most of the time and the activity lady is amazing! She makes the patients feel like they are family, and not just sick people there for a short time. I highly recommend this place if you really need to go somewhere to get help after being in the hospital. My friend is very happy with the care they provided him and is back at home. Thank you catered staff for your help!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My grandmother came to Catered Manor after knee surgery from Lakewood Regional. Though there were times staffing seemed short, the nursing staff was very attentive and took great care of her. My grandmother was very happy with the rehab department and feels they did what they needed to do to make sure she gets home safely. The environment was clean and had no foul smells, unlike other nursing centers. My grandmothers stay was only for a short while (maybe about 15 days) but I appreciate every thing they did for her recovery. She is happy and safe at home!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was brought after a brief stay in Los Alamitos hospital. We arrived about 30 minutes after she got there and found her wandering in the hall unsupervised, covered in feces and a full trash can from the previous patient at her bedside. The staff was completely unaware and inattentive. The place was filthy and smelled horrible. We proceeded to inform the supervisor we were taking her out of there. He then told me there would be ramifications. I'm about to show them some ramifications! There is no compassion for the care of the elderly and Medicare is a joke!

I am/was a resident of this facility

Of all the nursing homes I've been, Catered Manor was the nicest. The facility is very nice as well as the people running it. Their physical therapy is very good and the staff seemed to be very concerned about the patients. Everybody said they like the food, but personally I didn’t like it. Their activities were awesome. I had been there for only three days, but I would recommend it to anybody.

I visited this facility

I visited the center after being recommended by as hospital case manager from Long Beach Memorial. I visited on a weekend to look around to see if I wanted to bring mom here and was actually very impressed with the visit. The building is older but you can definitely see that staff care about the patients and always smiling. Staff greeted as I was walking around with the nurse supervisor on duty. I went to see two other places but was not impressed as I was with Catered Manor and I saw the other two places during the week when they should be at the top of their game. Mom ended up going to Catered and got the rehab she needed in three weeks. She is home and doing well. I think she got better care there and more attention than she got at the hospital. Her room was always so clean and the experience was very pleasant. From the neighborhood to the staff and care...this is the place to be after hip or knee surgery. Thank you all a Catered Manor!

Visited this facility

The letter I sent to family and friends says it all! Mom is home, Rehab didn't go as planned. We did a jail break. The Medics brought mom to the "rehab" she called me to let me know she was there so I could bring her Jammies and flowers. She told me to leave the flowers, there was no room for them. I arrived and was greeted by a drooling ,rocking old lady (poor lady), in a wheelchair and an incredible smell. I finally found moms room, she was sitting in the middle bed of three. with what seemed to be 2 very ill old ladies on each side. She told me that the medics just brought her to her room and she hadn't seen anyone for 2 hours! I went to the front desk to ask why she hadn't at least been greeted or checked on. The lady behind the desk stated she was processing her orders. I asked if there wasn't a different room she could be in as she isn't ill , just here for rehab. I then asked if this was a nursing home or a rehab facility? I was advised while pointing to a small room with some exercise machines in it that it was indeed a rehab as well. (my mistake) :) I then asked to speak to her doctor, they called the doctor on call (who has never met mom) I spoke with him, explained my concerns. I was told that since he had never met mom if we left it would be against medical advice (AMA). I responded that it might be very well be against medical advice to leave her here and against my better judgment. I was then walking to moms room, when I passed a cna bringing someones dirty diapers and linen , placed it in the receptacle then went straight to moms room to answer the light of the lady in the bed next to mom without washing her hands or even taking off her gloves! She helped the lady onto the bedside commode which was placed about 10 inches from moms bed. !!!!!REALLY!!!!!! Then proceeded to touch all the bedside tables to move them out of the way. (with the same gloves on!) I went back to the front desk and said that we were indeed leaving , and that the chances of mom's surgical site getting infected in this place was almost certain. We got a wheelchair and got her in the car.
