I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother was in Hayward Hills for physical therapy. She was hospitalized twice. She was supposed to be there for exercise, but it took them three days to start exercising her. Right after they started, she was having chest pains. We called 911, and they said her heart had been strained. The second time, nobody was watching her, and she was eating while lying down so she was choking. I had to call 911 again. Once when I visited her, I noticed something wrong and found out she was aspirating because her oxygen was only 71, and she would have been dead if I had not come. I asked them for my mother's medical records, and it has been a month since she was there but I still haven't received them.

I am a past client of this provider

I was only 29 years old at the time and my grandmother's brain was deteriorating quickly. Grandma was often losing her balance and falling down and often onto me. I could no longer care for her in her home or my parents full time anymore. We had to find a nursing home that woud be comfortable and close to our home that would also accept the state's medical plan, all on short notice. Last year at this time, my grandmother was out and about volunteering at the church, gardening in her yard. Her brain degeneration cancer was aggressive and took her mental awareness and normal body functioning away almost overnight. It is a difficult decision to make, when the time comes to put a loved one into a nursing home or hospice care facility. This location was not what we expected. We were not finding much available, as we had such short awareness of her condition. Her cancer was spreading fast and we had to make a choice where to keep her. Apparently Hayward Hills had vacancies for a reason. At our initial visit, it smelled, which we expected, but each time we visited, which was often, it stunk more and more. I would come to visit at least three times a week and I often was startled or scared to see the residents moaning and drooling and almost escaping through the front door. It almost startled me and a friend of mine even got sick and had to wait outside, it was that horrible of a sight. The extra curricular activities were not too eventful and very few people participated. My grandmother almost startved herself to death during the first month. Nobody helped her brush her teeth, as we had to help her do even daily hygiene tasks. She even attempted to take her life, as her disease was aggressive. Her final months with us was not dignified in this facility to say the least. She hadn't been turned in days, as bed sores were always on one side of her body. We understood this was not a "hospital" but her care was less than average. She only lasted three months in that care facility before she passed away The doctor gave her six month to a year, yet only lasted three miserable months. I can still hear the moans and groans of the residents in my head as I entered the home and the stench. I vowed to never put my parents in a place as I saw first hand how awful your last months can be if not planned out well in advance. I would not recommend this facility. Perhaps things have changed since I was a visitor, but I drive by this nursing home every day and I still get a chill when I think about my loving grandmother having to leave this world from that awful place. It makes me sad knowing that was our only option at the time due to the type of medical coverage we had.
