We looked at The Forum at Rancho San Antonio. It was nice, but it was very unaffordable for us. While I could figure out what was good and not so good about it, they were not super forthcoming with a lot of the details. But I was able to figure it out. The grounds were really lovely with a wonderful view of the surrounding hills of the area. It was gorgeous. All of the common areas were well furnished. The staff was lovely. They had a lot of hospitality for everyone that walked in. They were kind. I was greeted by the personnel that I needed. They were responsive. I had specifically asked to tour the memory care and they somehow wound me between all the assisted living spaces, which were fairly modern. Some of them were a little bit outdated but quite nice. They were also doing some renovations. They were spacious and they looked nice, but they managed to not show me one certain area that I requested to see, and I never did get to see it. So I only got to see the assisted living portion of it. Overall, they would have been a lovely facility to live in. The staff had sort of evaded some questions but they were nice. It was huge. I only saw one building, so it's more like a community, meaning you would go to where you go to, but you wouldn't go to every part of it all the time. So thinking about it, for what I needed, my mom would likely stay in her building. She wouldn't ever leave that area.

Provider Response

Hi Diana - we appreciate you taking the time to review The Forum. We are sorry that you didn't get answers to all of your questions or tour parts of our community that you wished to see. We'd like to personally invite you back for another tour. Please reach out to our Executive Director, Nancy Kao, to set some time up that best suits your schedule. Thank you again for your review!

The tour at The Forum at Rancho San Antonio was excellent, but the villa was not attached to the main building. You're kind of stuck out on the road, which is if I were incapacitated and couldn't walk, that would be a negative. I'd have somebody pick me up and take me to the main building where the meals are being served and the activities are taking place. The amenities were excellent and there were a lot of activities. The staff I met were excellent.

Provider Response

Hi Jay - thank you for the nice review and we're so glad you enjoyed the tour! Our Villas are for those who prefer having more privacy, but enjoy walking to the main buildings to participate in a variety of programs. If and when the time comes where a resident may need additional support, we provide on demand transportation to all parts of our campus. We know the Villas aren't for everyone and we have 17 different floor plans in various locations to meet every prospect's needs. It was a pleasure meeting with you and we welcome you back anytime!

The Forum is normally a great place to be but especially so when bad things happen be it injury, surgery, illness, or a loss. Here you have the support of many friends. I came back from Scotland with 6 fractured ribs and lung damage due to a freak accident. I had spent 12 days in a hospital in Scotland. When I returned to The Forum I had several hundred cheerleaders and folks willing to help. The residents had previously put together a list of medical equipment people were willing to loan and I was able to borrow a wheelchair. The dining room delivered food until I was ready to be wheeled to the dining room. The Wellness nurse brought me a finger probe to keep check of my oxygen level since I had lung damage. The director called to see if I needed anything. I had everything and everyone I needed to be able to stay in our apartment. If I had needed, more care, skilled nursing and assisted living were right here on campus. It would have been a challenge to duplicate the care here if we had still been in our house and such a relief for our children.

Provider Response

Thank you for your positive review. While we're so sorry for what you went through with your injury, we're glad you were able to receive the care and support you needed here at The Forum. We're glad to have residents like you who call The Forum home. Thank you again.

I'm delighted to provide a heartfelt review of the assisted living community where my dear friend has been residing. The experience has been nothing short of exceptional, thanks to the remarkable staff and employees who work tirelessly to ensure the well-being and happiness of all the residents. First and foremost, the staff here exude warmth, compassion, and professionalism. They've not only met but exceeded every expectation when it comes to caring for my friend. The level of respect, patience, and understanding they exhibit is truly remarkable. It's evident that they approach their roles not merely as a job but as a genuine calling to improve the lives of those they serve. What's equally impressive is the sense of community fostered within this establishment. Residents often engage in various activities and events, creating a tight-knit, supportive environment. My friend has shared countless heartwarming stories about the friendships formed here, and it's clear that the staff plays a pivotal role in nurturing this camaraderie. The employees' dedication to ensuring a high quality of life for the residents is evident in every aspect of their work. From delicious and nutritious meals to engaging activities tailored to residents' interests and abilities, the attention to detail is outstanding. It's also worth mentioning the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, which reflects their commitment to maintaining a comfortable and safe living environment. In conclusion, I can't express enough gratitude for the incredible staff and employees who make this assisted living community more than just a place to stay – they make it a true home. The peace of mind I have knowing my friend is in their capable hands is priceless, and I'm immensely thankful for their unwavering dedication. This community sets a shining example of what compassionate and person-centered care should be, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a caring and vibrant living environment for their loved ones.

Provider Response

We are so appreciative of your review! We work very hard to deliver all of the things that you outlined because our residents deserve the very best. We are so glad that your friend is having a great experience and will work to ensure they continue to feel this sense of community. Thank you again.

My mother moved into the Forum about 9 months after my father passed away. She is currently in independent living in an apartment that she purchased. Everything about the Forum is top notch. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The residents have 2 meals a day (continental breakfast that is complimentary) and lunch or dinner. The food is very good! The residents have weekly cleaning of their apartments which is included. It's a really nice community with activities for the residents. My mother is an avid swimmer and really enjoys the pool and fitness center. It's such as nice place for my mother who is navigating being a widow. It is really nice for me to know that my mother has everything she needs at the Forum. I hope to one day retire at the Forum.

Provider Response

Hello and thank you for the positive review. We're so sorry for the loss of your father. We are so glad that your mother has been enjoying her apartment, the food and activities and has found a home at our community. We will welcome you when the time comes for you to retire as well!

I have lived at the Forum Rancho San Antonio since 1998. Moving here was the second best thing I ever did (marrying my wife and having our children is the first). I can characterize living at the Forum in one word - FREEDOM! Freedom to do the things I like to do and freedom not to do the things I don't want to do.

Great place! We have two bedrooms and two baths with a beautiful view of the Open Space. Rooms are nice-sized and don’t feel small at all. Staff is very supportive and helpful. Good Fitness Center and wonderful 30-yard pool which is great for lap swimming. Open Space is next door so easy access to walks and hikes. Good golf group once a month at Deep Cliff. Trips to Giants games on Forum bus, as well as concerts at Mountain Winery, etc. Food is delicious and varied and available for pick-up and eating in your villa or unit. We highly recommend The Forum!

We have been living here for 8 mos, and feel as though we have been transformed. The number and variety of activities is astounding. There are outings to multiple musicals, theaters, and museums. Also on site performances by amateur and professional musicians and lectures on literary and political topics are frequent. All living units are clean and well maintained, whether they are apartments or "villas". There is weekly housekeeping service. Staff and fellow residents are very friendly. Residents are quite well educated and well traveled, and have wealth of stories to share. There are multiple events to help new residents become acquainted with the facilities and each other. Food is excellent. The library is extensive. There are numerous interest activities..book club, mah jongg, bridge, bocce ball, wood shop, yoga, water aerobics, et al. Rancho San Antonio County Park and Open Space Preserve is our neighbor (a two minute walk from my front door), and affords a chance to walk, hike, or just be in nature and observe wildlife. The pool and fitness center are first rate. We made the right choice, at the right time, for us.

Provider Response

Thank you for your positive review. We are so glad that you have acclimated so quickly and have taken advantage of our numerous activities and amenities. We truly strive to offer something for everyone!

I have lived at the Forum for 25 years. It's like living on a cruise ship that never leaves port, and it has gotten better every year. If I had my life to live over, I wouldn't change a thing including the broken leg when I was 6, because if I did I might not end up here.

The Forum is a wonderful place for people to retire. The community is always so welcoming and friendly (residents and staff both). When walking down the halls people smile and say hello. There is a warm feeling whenever I am on the campus and its so much peace of mind for myself and my family. The resident community in independent living are very active and involved in all areas of The Forum including its governance and going as far as where the shuttle bus takes the residents shopping each week. Residents are able to maintain such a high level of independence throughout their retirement and have a sense of pride in their community. You or a loved one would be lucky to be a resident here. The higher levels of care in assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing are supreme. The care is so high quality and I know for certain that my loved ones will be well cared for without a doubt.

Provider Response

Thank you for your exceptional review of the Forum. We are so appreciative that you have found the warm atmosphere and peace of mind that we pride ourselves in being able to provide, both to our residents, and to family such as yourself. We consider ourselves lucky to have you as a part of our community, and thanks again for the five star review.

The Forum is a "number one" Retirement Community. The location is perfect with the beautiful Rancho San Antonio Park for walks/hikes or just viewing the beautiful surroundings. The residents are friendly /superb neighbors. Services are excellent! Full kitchens if you want to cook but a variety of dining venues from which to choose or order a meal to go...whatever you desire. The apartments/villa's are perfect with excellent housekeeping weekly. The entire staff is so friendly/helpful/delightful. What could be better? Tucked away in the beautiful hillls away from the noise and crowd of a city but with easy access to freeways. Have lived here over 6 years now and without question chose the "best of the best" community. Some of my neighbors who have needed to go to the Health Care Center just rave about the experience. The care is number one and the food excellent. Absolutely no complaints here...just compliments!!

Provider Response

Mabb, thank you for taking the time to leave such a glowing review of The Forum. You, and other 'best of the best' residents, are what makes us a one-of-a-kind place to live. We are so grateful to hear that you have had such a positive experience and appreciate the five-star review.

The Forum at Rancho San Antonio is a continuing care retirement community. The facility was excellent. The only negative thing about The Forum for me was the salesperson, who is a realtor. It's a buy-in place. I thought everything was impeccable, but it was a little too upscale for me. I'm not used to all that posh; all that expensive show of wealth. For me, because of the feel of the place, it wasn't a good fit. For somebody that likes that sort of thing, it was really, really nice. The rooms were very nice. Every apartment has a full kitchen, which for me, is something I don't need. I don't want to cook anymore. If you give me a sink, a refrigerator, and maybe a little microwave, I'm a happy girl. The kitchen takes up a lot of square footage that could be devoted to just living space. That's a personal opinion of how I view things. I don't want a place that gives me a full kitchen. I didn't like the sales realtor that took me around. She didn't return my phone calls. She was hard to work with. I didn't care for the lady just based on that sort of thing. I think it's rude to be looking in a place that you might want to move and not even have the person return your phone calls. It seemed wrong somehow. The only place they showed me was the independent living. They didn't show me their assisted living portion, their memory care unit, nor their skilled nursing unit. The food was quite good. They had everything. They had a beauty salon, a library, a swimming pool, planned activities, hiking groups, and transportation to shopping and medical appointments. They're adjacent to Rancho San Antonio, which is absolutely gorgeous. I hike there quite a bit. It's a wonderful place to hike. The apartments have a view of that side. They have this lovely view of the hills, redwood trees, and that sort of thing. You can see and hear nature just by going out on your balcony.

Provider Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide us feedback and leave a five star review. We are happy you found everything “impeccable” but unfortunately didn’t feel like we were the perfect fit for you. One of the perks of equity ownership is that it makes the Forum a resident-owned and resident-governed community. And as residents are buying a property interest in The Forum, they are able to enjoy the tax benefits and equity preservation associated with home ownership. If you would be willing, we would like to hear more about your experience with a member of our team. We want everyone's experience with The Forum, whether they ultimately decide to move here or not, to be an enjoyable one. And we would appreciate the opportunity to learn how we can improve on that. The Forum at Rancho San Antonio is a lovely full-service facility. It allows people to retain property ownership if that's important to them. It's an equity ownership model. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The food service was excellent. There were many intellectually stimulating activities and transportation to community events. It had more space than most. The food was excellent.

Provider Response

Thank you for your great feedback! The Forum offers complete peace of mind - whether that's our full continuum of care offering the security of knowing you'll always have access to quality healthcare or financial security with our unique equity ownership. And all this amongst the backdrop of a vibrant community with endless activities and amenities. And of course as you mentioned, the fantastic food! We appreciate your five star review.

There are many reasons I love living at the Forum. One of the main things I love is the sense of community. I was asked by a friend, who does not live here, if I have someone to rely on if I need help with something. For example, would someone go to a drugstore and pick up a prescription if I didn't feel well? I realized that almost anyone who drives would do that for me. We take care of each other. It is like having an extended family that lives nearby. When I go to the dining room alone, I know there will be people that I can join even if I don't know them well. People don't sit alone unless they want to. If I want to be cheered up, I go to the lounge. The lounge is a casual place that people come to after an exercise class or just to find people to talk with. I never know who I will have coffee with because once again anyone can join in. I just know there will be people having a good time with each other. The sense of community extends to the staff. They are a fabulous group of people who have our best interests at heart. They had extra duties during covid in addition to worrying about their families. The residents were very aware of the extra effort staff made to keep us safe. We tried to show our deep appreciation by making signs to cheer them up, and helping them whenever we were able, even if it was with just a smile and a thank you. We also had fun making Christmas treat baskets to surprise them. They are much appreciated and definitely part of the extended family. If I want to be alone, which I do at times, I know no one will bother me. But when I want to feel connected to a very giving community, all I need to do is walk out of my apartment and it will be there for me.

Provider Response

Thank you for your feedback and the five star review. What makes The Forum such a special place is the people! Our staff and residents engage in activities that connect us and enrich our community. And staying connected to others has never felt more important.

As the adult child of a resident at the Forum I can say unequivocally that it was the best decision my mother made for herself. After my father passed, I was worried about her increased loneliness, as well as the increased burden of managing her home. I mean, maintaining the garden, the cooking for one, the paperwork of paying bills each month, the grocery shopping, trying to drive out to see her friends or to doc appointment, etc. It started to worry me since I have a family and job to manage as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see that immediately after she moved in, the sense of community and connection was right there for her. And the conveniences and services at the Forum are incredible -- enabling my mom to focus on the things she wants to focus on without the overhead of managing your own household. It's the best of both worlds. Hopefully, I'll be able to move in there when I'm her age.

Provider Response

Emelia, thank you for sharing your mother's experience and for the five star review. At The Forum, we take care of the little things, so our residents have the freedom to pursue the activities and relationships that make life worthwhile. We look forward to having you as a future resident!

The beauty of The Forum’s campus, the spacious and well-designed apartments and villas, the inviting common areas—all these are obvious on a first visit. What’s not obvious, what has to be experienced in order to appreciate it, is the warmth, the intellectual stimulation, and the communal spirit of The Forum’s residential community. We lived in our previous home for five decades, it was perfect for us in every way, and we expected to have a certain amount of nostalgia, looking back. But no, from the very first day we felt so much at home, so welcomed, so busy with Forum activities, that we’ve never looked back. If you move here, you won’t either.

We appreciate the fantastic feedback and are so pleased to hear that you have found your new perfect home with us. At The Forum we are fortunate to have a one-of-a-kind location and one-of-a-kind people, like you!

We initially moved to The Forum for practical reasons: we needed to ensure we had a plan in place for healthcare in the event one or both of us needed additional care. We also had two relatives with happy experiences at The Forum—both in independent and assisted living. We simply could not find a similar facility on a par with The Forum in the area. It was an easy decision. However, after moving to The Forum, we had even more reasons for being happy with our decision. The camaraderie among residents, the friendliness of the staff and management team, and the array of activities for continuing to enjoy life all add up to the best possible situation for us. The WoodShop, the fitness programs, and programs with a wide range of stimulating outings and talks have enriched our lives.

I know The Forum at Rancho San Antonio because I have two friends there. I didn't need a regular tour there because I realized I've been there. One friend is in the assisted care facility and has been there for quite a few years. She likes it, and I think she gets good care. The other one moved in last year, and I think she likes it too. I think you get more for your money there than other places because you buy in and you have equity as a group. When you leave the place or when you die, the money your heirs get back is more in relation to how the whole place has done. It's sort of a non-profit, where you are an owner; I think the financial setup is better here. You pay a lot of money, but you're not losing money unless the economy really goes down. They have a formal, as far as dinner. Of course, you have to reserve your place, say what time you're going, and things like that. I would go there for luncheons, and the food seemed excellent. I know two other women there, and they loved it. They did everything. They wouldn't even come to see their kids because they were so busy. I think they have lots of activities under normal conditions, and the people were very, very happy there. They have so many different facilities, and they have new ones. I have friends that just bought in one of their independent living cottage-type things. If I was going somewhere, I would probably go there. It's beautiful. It's very well kept, and they're building new places.

Thank you Marjorie for sharing your experience.

The Forum at Rancho San Antonio is beautiful. The people we ran into were also very friendly, and the place was beautifully kept up. It's a beautiful place to live under any circumstances, and I think most anybody would like to live there. They have a variety of activities. Almost anything that you would want to participate in was available there. They had exercise, arts, clubs, social activities, and card games. Everything is within walking distance within the structure of the building itself, so that made it much simpler than having to decide to go someplace. For people who are getting ready to retire from a single living or separate living, I think that it's very helpful to have a place like this available for those of us getting older. I did not eat there, but the menu looked tasty. The room was very beautiful. It was very nice.

I have lived at The Forum for 13 years now and I still find joy in life every day here. Even though the pandemic required our Management Team to keep us all in a lockdown situation, every effort was made to keep us well fed, comfortable and safe. We are so proud of the fact that there were no cases of Covid at all in our Independent Living apartments and villas. We (the other residents and I), attribute that outcome to the constant hard work and attention paid by the staff to keeping us well. The residents were happy to comply with the restrictions imposed because we knew it was for our own well being. We are so glad to be opened up more now and to be able to visit with friends and family again. The Forum is a wonderful place to be living!

Provider Response

We're looking forward to getting back to our community activities and events as well. Thank you so much for the kind words, Edith. So thank you.

My husband and I moved to The Forum at Rancho San Antonio, Cupertino in 2000. When we moved here Nancy K. had an Administrator job at the Health Care Center and when a job opening occurred in the Director's office she applied and was hired. Nancy continued her education and received advanced degrees which enabled her to take over the Associate Executive Director job at The Forum. She is now the Executive Director. Nancy K. is very dedicated to all her responsibilites. No matter what time I send a note to Nancy she always responds with an answer of who to contact, or takes care of the matter herself. Even when she goes home she will answer notes, which I feel is exceptional. I am so grateful that we chose The Forum at Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino as our residence and appreciate all that Nancy K. does for us.

My mother was in The Forum at Rancho San Antonio. It's excellent, but a unique one, you have equity in the condominium or villa, or whatever you choose to live there, and most places don't. Mother is in independent living, but my father lived there, I've seen their assisted living, and I've seen they're now putting in a dementia-type facility. They have maid service when you're in an independent living situation, pools, activities. The food is excellent, they actually charge very little for visitors, they had planned, I think to charge outsiders less to eat in their dining room, which is good, I think it brings visitors here. It's a very nice place, it's not cheap, a condo is probably gonna cost you a million bucks.

Provider Response

Hi James! Thank you so much for your feedback. We appreciate you sharing your mother and father's experience.

When we were thinking about living at The Forum, my wife was worried that I wouldn’t have enough to do. Now I’m busier than she is. The Woodshop looked much bigger and better equipped than my own home workshop in our old garage. And it has turned out to be a fabulous resource for me. Some of the signage call it the Hobbyshop. Very accurate. The Open Space Rancho San Antonio Park incorporates an airfield for radio controlled airplanes. I’ve never flown RC but as a teenager I built many models of airplanes, boats and trains. I’ve always wanted to learn to fly RC airplanes but I never had the time. At the Forum, I can make the time. Well, there are many things competing but I can make the time. The third thing I never anticipated at all before we moved in but it turns out to be very true. I have gotten to know and have fun with many more people here that I ever did living in Palo Alto where I knew perhaps 20 neighbors by name . After about eight months at The Forum, I went through the picture book and discovered that I could recall the names of about 180 people. We’ve dined together, worked on projects together, played Trivia, played Bocce Ball, built things in the Woodshop, exercised in the Sierra Room, gone to art show openings, become familiar with the emergency evacuation procedures, and hiked trails in the park.

Provider Response

Wow! 180 people! That's fabulous. We're so happy to hear that you're enjoying all the activities and amenities The Forum has to offer. But hearing how much you continue to enjoy meeting and making new friends here is music to our ears. Thank you so much for sharing!

I am/was a resident of this facility

My husband and I made one of the best decisions of our lives when we came to the Forum at Rancho San Antonio Retirement Community in 2007. We found a very interesting life for ourselves here in a vibrant, talented community of people from different backgrounds. When my husband became ill, an overwhelming number of people were extraordinarily kindly and supportive. My husband received excellent care in the Skilled Nursing Section of the Forum's Health Care Center for three years until his death in 2014. I don't know how I could have endured that time had we been elsewhere. Nurses and staff became family. I visited him daily for meals. Deep and abiding friendships sustain me and volunteer work here give me purpose. Staff care for us nobly during the pandemic; no resident has had Covid-19. At 91 I count myself lucky to be here where I am a proud happy resident. Mim G.

Provider Response

Mim, we appreciate you entrusting us with your well-being through both good times and challenging periods. Your husband was an amazing man and losing a spouse is never easy. Your strength and resilience continue to inspire us. What's special about our community is you can always count on people to be there for you at all times, and we count ourselves lucky to have such a supportive culture. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your positive experience.

We have lived at The Forum for eight years and love it. You do have to purchase a unit but if you live here about eight years you tend to get all your money back when sold. Meals are excellent and lots of activities. A major updating is just starting and occupancy prices will not increase as a resullt of the plan. Skilled nursing and assisted living costs for residents are 50% of the local market rate but you do pay a mothly health care fee to offset the big discount.

The Forum is a beautiful place, we have a friend who lives there, but it was not compatible with us. I felt it was not a good environment. They had a nice exercise room and a small woodworking shop (which I would find very attractive). They had a pool and various kinds of entertainment. We had dinner there and the food was delicious. The apartments were very nice as well.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The Forum was a pretty neat place. It's probably one of the higher priced options for assisted care, but it is really nice overall. The staff was friendly. The place was clean and very engaging. You'd almost think you're going into an upscale hotel.

We picked the Forum for my mom. It was a nice place. The staff was very professional, very caring, and very empathetic. The rooms were very nice. My mom is in the nursing home part, but they had the cottages and other areas. It was well-maintained and we got to see the actual room where my mom would be. The food was excellent and the dining area was very nice. They have exercise, Bingo, crafts and movie nights. They could improve on the wait time to get to the services. The safety and security is excellent.

The forum was very nice. They had small duplexes with small garages. But it was too expensive and the biggest thing was you had to buy your unit. It was real estate transaction so you would have to pay real estate taxes and I didn't like it.

It's in Rancho San Antonio, right up in the hills. There is public transportation, but there are no stores right in the immediate surrounding area. The grounds are very beautiful "“ it's nestled in the foothills. There are outdoor patios and places to sit. The common areas are well kept up and well furnished. They have a library and a computer lab. The residents own or rent their own villas or apartments. I haven't been inside any of them, but it's a very beautiful place and location The staff members that I know are nice. I had one meal there, and it was really delicious. The activities sounded good too.
