Assisted Living Reviews for Las Villas De Carlsbad

March 01, 2017

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom Linda N. was moved to the skilled section here at Las Villas De Carlsbad from Scripps Memorial Encinitas. When I called my mom she was very impressed and happy on the quality of care she is getting and the attention. We are praying that all goes well and that we will get to move her into the assisted living side of things in a shared apartment with a little extra help to wrap her legs daily ... I think we found a gem here in Carlsbad for my mom...Thank you to the all the staff helping my mom at Las Villas De Carlsbad for taking such great care of her. We look forward to Many years of GREAT care with you

I like that Las Villas de Carlsbad is very warm and welcoming. On the day I visited, it was cold, which was unusual, and they had the fireplace going in the main living room area, so it was very welcoming. The staff is wonderful, but my former husband complains that they’re pretty slow on the uptake. He’s in a wheelchair and has to be pushed to the dining room, and he said that sometimes they take a really long time to get him. I thought their dining room was great; I’ve eaten there three times now. I think they could be quicker with their responses to the residents. We give them a five because they try really hard.

I like the whole facility of Las Villas De Carlsbad, including the activities for their residents, the level of care that they offer, and the people who work there. They have kept up the community very well. I love everything about it and my mother is very happy. I would recommend this facility to others.

I visited this facility

I visited Las Villas De Carlsbad. It was alright. It was OK. Everything was favorable. My only objection, very frankly, is the cost between a home I have and the cost that would require me to be there and the freedom I have in the home I have. The rooms were OK. I think everything was favorable. I had no objection. Everyone was courteous and nice. All seemed very reasonable, pleasant, clean, and favorable. The facility is near the city, utilities, and stores, and so on, so it is in a reasonable locale, and that's one of the favorable things about it.

Las Villas de Carlsbad used to be independently owned and operated, but it was acquired by by Elmcroft, a corporation that runs many similar facilities, shortly after my parent moved in. There has been a large employee turnover, with some of the best staff leaving. There have been large price increases, 11.5% this year alone. Elmcroft has refurbished and made cosmetic changes to the common areas, so the place does look nicer. But quality of care depends on the staff. If we had known about the pending acquisition 2 years ago when my parents first moved in, we would have looked elsewhere. We are now looking at other facilities.

They really have a nice staff at Las Villas De Carlsbad. They were very good about meeting us. My father-in-law requires checks every couple of hours, and we have to remind them of that. He is at the assisted living, and my mother-in-law is in the independent living. One of the reasons why we moved our parents in that facility was so she wouldn’t be doing so much. They do have a lot of activities. They definitely have bingo and exercise, which is really important. They have a nice dining facility, and I was pretty impressed. For improvements, I think probably they need to make sure there's enough staff on hand. The whole experience was very good.

I visited this facility

The food was good at Elmcroft Las Villas de Carlsbad and they had a nice salad bar. It's a large facility. It had three separate buildings and there were walkways in between. You could also walk around in the ground with flowers and green grass. The area is very open and it's very nice. The people were great. The deciding factor was the price and I just feel very comfortable with the facility.

My mother has been a resident for 3 years. Service and care have gone down while the prices have gone up. Started just under $5000 per month and no going to $6,200 for assisted living. We're looking elsewhere!

I've heard wonderful things about Las Villas De Carlsbad. The person that we had made an appointment was not there. She left not too long before we got there and she forgot she had an appointment with us. As far as the place, it's nice but I thought that the person in-charge who forgot our appointment and could not come back turned us off. They do have a very high reputation in the area.

I visited this facility

Las Villas de Carlsbad was too small. Everybody was very nice, but it had a lot of old people, and I don't consider myself that old. The rooms were small, but the staff was very nice and friendly. The schedule of activities is pretty comparable to every place else, and they have a lot of activities. I would just like larger units, but the atmosphere was very nice.

Provider Response

Hi Jean, Thank you for the feedback! Please know that we truly value your comments.

I visited this facility

Las Villas De Carlsbad was very nice, but they were way more expensive. The room that my mother would have occupied was in a different building from the main dining room, which meant she had to walk outdoors when it was cold in order to get to the dining room. They had a small tiny dining room in her main building, but it cut back on the socializing factor, and that was what I wanted her to have. She has a walker, and it is just too far of a walk. The room, amenities, and the people were wonderful. It was a great visit.

By no hospice for me

I visited this facility

Las Villas de Carlsbad is very much like other facilities. They’re very friendly but very expensive. My mom almost went there about a year or so ago, but she wasn’t ready to move in. They were good with cleanliness. I liked the dining area. We ate there and liked it.

About Las Villas De Carlsbad

Las Villas de Carlsbad is an assisted living facility with specialized programs for those who are interested in independent living, multi-level communities, and dedicated Alzheimer's and dementia care. The community’s primary goal is to provide a dignified and respectful approach to residents who need some daily assistance by offering enriching services and experiences. Las Villas de Carlsbad is run by Elmcroft, a national senior living company.

Las Villas de Carlsbad is focused on creating opportunities for residents to connect with one another and their environment. There are large, open common areas for socializing, a community pool, specialized dining areas and a small library of books. They also have several outdoor areas that make it easy to reconnect with nature and take a stroll.

As in all Elmcroft communities, Las Villas de Carlsbad offers three signature programs for engaging residents in activities and events. The Vitality Club gives residents opportunities to learn about other cultures, try new foods, reach personal objectives and make new friends through a fully customized care plan.

Second Wind Dreams is another program that allows residents to share their goals with staff members so that they can work together to make them come true. The program follows a patient-centered, goal-oriented approach meant to encourage and support residents.

Las Villas de Carlsbad wants residents to be comfortable as they transition through the various stages of community living. The facility is built with a multi-level care plan in mind, meaning that each successive stage of care, from independent living to assisted living or memory care entails a smooth transition with familiar and friendly faces.

This community specializes in Alzheimer's and dementia care in its Heartland Village wing. Care providers in Heartland Village have been specially trained to deal with the challenges of dementia and aim to create relationships and care plans based on each patient's life history and background.

Las Villas de Carlsbad is a retirement community known for its dedication to quality care in a dignified manner. Anyone who is looking to move to an independent or assisted living facility would benefit from their care and programs.

Those with cognitive impairments will find a warm and receptive homecoming in Heartland Village. Overall, the community is ideal for anyone who needs assistance with some day-to-day activities, but still has a vital interest in reaching their goals and continuing to learn and build connections.
