What to Consider About Assisted Living in Westerville

Westerville, Ohio, was the site of the 1875 "Whiskey War," when Prohibitionists actually planted gunpowder bombs in local saloons to protest the selling of "fermented spirits." Today, the saloons are relatively safe in Westerville, and they share the town with 37 assisted living facilities (ALFs). The ALFs are regulated by the Ohio Department of Health’s Office of Health Assurance and Licensing. This state-level body inspects facilities to ensure good health and safety standards and a generally high level of staff training. Assisted living staff provide 24-hour supervision and emergency response for residents, as well as help with bathing, dressing and other common activities of daily living (ADLs).

Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Westerville

  • Weather in Westerville can get cold in the winter, which creates issues for some seniors with COPD or other breathing disorders.
