My mom liked Scottsdale Village Square. It seemed more like a home where she could have her privacy and still be part of the community. It's two levels, but my mom was guaranteed the first level. It has elevators. The staff members were really nice. They had some problems, but they've revamped their old facility. They brought in a new person in charge, and you could tell that they put a nice operation together. The residents could choose from the menu. They do a lot of things. They had a calendar, and they did stuff, but it didn't seem quite as much as some of the other ones that I've been to.

My brother is at Scottsdale Village Square, A Pacifica Senior Living Community. The grounds are very nice. His apartment is rather small, but it's adequate for his needs. He does have a shared area for the kitchen and a little table and chairs and things. So far, the staff seems pretty OK. They have changed the assisted living director and there's also a new nurse who handles the medical side of it, but they seem to be doing a good job. They have exercise classes, and they show movies. They have several things they do, but my brother chooses not to partake in any of those things. He is not a super social guy. They have a comedy act come in, and they have music people come in. They have several different options for things they can do. The dining area is very pretty. I think the food is pretty good. My brother is not crazy about it, but that's because he doesn't like healthy foods, he likes junk foods. Overall, I think it's OK there. It seems to be safe, but they charge for like every little thing. I would like to see my brother have more services, but we can't afford it. We need to have medication management and that's a big chunk every month. I realize they're a pretty reasonable place as far as finances are concerned, but it's taking it out of us because my brother doesn't have any money, so we're having to pay for most of it. They're short-staffed like every place. They need more staff there.

Scottsdale Village Square was nice and well laid out. It's an older facility, and they have some very nice updated parts of it. The rooms are old and kind of small, but everybody seemed very friendly. Their dining facility was awesome. Of course with COVID, we couldn't try anything and only the residents were allowed to eat there. They have facilities close by on hand where you can get medical care, both mental and physical. It looks like they had a lot of activities going on when we were there. There's crafts stuff, card games, and puzzles. They've got a decent sized swimming pool, which I wouldn't mind jumping into. My mom might need a higher level of care, which is also right there; you don't have to go into a new area. The person doing the tour worked her butt off and got my sister and I on a conference call, worked out the finances, and everything we needed to move in. They didn't try to hide anything and laid it all out right in front. The dining area was very nice, clean, large with lots of space. There's a lot of space between tables and big chandeliers. There's a little space off to the side where you can have entertainment when it's allowed. Everything was very clean and the grounds were nicely manicured, including the trees and bushes. Nothing was out of place.

This facility is absolutely the WORST PLACE i have ever lived. First 14 days while in quarantine I contracted Norovirus AND pneumonia. Three times in 30 days staff did not respond to the nurse call button for more than 1 hour. The rooms are dilapidated. No phones allowed in rooms; no calls after 8 p.m. THERE ARE NO ACTIVITIES PLANNED. Bathroom shower floor was so dirty I wouldn't wash my dog in it. All the furniture was scratched and had water damage. Food was awful bad. I could go on and on but suffice to say, Don't recommend to your worst enemy. Never go there. No amenities at all.

DO NOT even start the process with this group. Look elsewhere. Very unprofessional. Told us the day BEFORE we were to move in they were not going to take my dad. Cashed our check - even though contract says cashed on admission - and told me it would be 5 weeks for a refund. Waited until the last minute to complete the evaluation then did not do their due diligence and relied on very old and outdated information. Please be careful. We were left scrambling with 3 days to find alternate arrangements before my dad was discharged.

We had a great experience with the assisted living program, that unfortunately transitioned into hospice care sooner that we were anticipating. The skill and compassion of care was terrific and made the difficult process a little easier to navigate. I would highly recommend SVS for anyone with a loved one that needs more care than you can provide at home. They educate and support you all along the way for a full spectrum of care. My father was very happy in his last few months and SVS was responsible for that.
