I went to Arbor Rose Senior Care. I was told that they had assisted living. The lady that I was talking to about admitting my mother went along with everything, and everything was great. The day that I was going to move her in, they called and said they couldn't take her. I was flabbergasted. Everything's all set up. That left me in a horrible position. They get one star for everything. With the exception of the manager, it was fine. She was horrible. The rooms were OK. They were painting a different room while I was there, so it made me think the upkeep was continuous. The staff seemed friendly and helpful. The layout was a little confusing. They need to communicate better. They just pulled the rug out from me at the last minute literally. They make promises that they have no intention of keeping. It's frustrating. The situation is bad enough without them doing that.

I toured Arbor Rose Senior Care, and the lady that showed me around was Claudia. She showed me all the bedrooms and everything and did a good job. They had three pods and there were eight people to a pod, so they pretty much stay in their own facilities. Then they also have an enhanced care transition building to go to memory care. They have a secure area for smoking, too. My client is a fanatic of the Game Show Channel, so one of the questions that I asked was, "Do you have cable?" And they said, "Yes, it's Cox Cable," and Cox Cable indeed carries the Game Show Network. That was another major thing. When somebody has dementia, they get hung up on these things. The apartment had a walk-in shower, a bathroom, and a big living room. The living room is 195 square feet of living area. There are others that were bigger than this, but you have all the amenities that you need like 24/7 snacks, bedding, laundry, housekeeping, activities, Cox Cable, a day club, a caregiver, medical team, RN, and a director of health and wellness. It's also a new building as well.

Provider Response

When we got to Arbor Rose Senior Care, there was a big sign that says "Sales this way." We walked in there. The first thing we saw was a high desk/counter with a lady staying behind it. Then off to the side when you went further in, there was a big black iron bar gate. The first thing I thought of was jail, because it looked like one. It was the first impression I got. The lady behind the desk was OK. She wasn't rude or anything. She just appeared to be too busy. There were two places to sit up front, and that was it. We had to stand there and wait probably 15 minutes for the salesperson to come get us. We didn't get a brochure. We didn't tour the whole grounds. We went and saw one room. We didn't see any activity rooms. She gave us her business card and some stuff about VA, and that was it. We kind of felt like we were in their way. It seemed like the level of care that they mostly did was for people that needed a lot more care than what we were looking for as well. They had their apartments setup like cottages where you go in and there's a little kitchen area, a little living room area, and then all those bedrooms. There was another building that was set up the same way and another. I liked the outside. It was kind of a cool concept. They had natural grass, trees, and sidewalk paths that kind of made in a circle between all the buildings. The inside of the buildings that the residents lived in and the little cottages were very dark to me. Nothing spectacular, but it was nice. It just needs some work.

I visited Arbor Rose Senior Care. They have a group center and also an entertainment center where they could go and socialize a little bit. But everything was very secure, too, as well. They have a lot of patios for outside sitting. It wasn't closed, so that was a good thing, because my grandfather has memory issues. I like that there were a lot of windows, and even though it was a closed-off section, they have a lot to offer there. There was outside seating for some fresh air because my grandpa doesn't like to be inside a lot. That was a really big thing, too, that I had to consider. There are similar rooms for people who have memory issues and stuff. They have rooms with at least one roommate. Their staff was really on point, and they did care about and knew a lot about their patients. It's not like they go into it not knowing what to expect. The staff who took us around was genuine and had a lot of empathy for their patients because some of the patients aren't in their right minds. So, having that empathy hand in hand, goes very well with people. Also, being focused on their job, yet taking care of their patients is the number one thing, to take extra care of these patients. But anything that their patients could do for themselves, they let them do it. She answered all questions, and she also reassured us that they also know their family as well. She said, "We know one of their close relatives that come to visit often, or their relatives want them to be cared for in a certain way, or if they want things to be done this way. We'll make every effort to make those conversations, to make you feel that this is the right place for them and that they're safe here." Their staff were really on everything. They have people, one right after another, giving them medication, giving them their breakfast, asking them if they're ready to shower, or something like that. They have an outside seating area, with lots of coverage and bushes, and stuff for them to look at. If they want, they can eat in their room. But if they don't have memory issues, or if they're a little more grounded, there is kind of a dining room area.

I liked Arbor Rose Senior Care. It was the most convenient for us. I also liked the fact that they had showers in the residents' rooms. The rooms themselves were much more spacious, too. They had activities and things I was looking for in memory care. I liked the person that I talked to. They gave me a whole tour around. One side was for memory care, the other side was for assisted living. They have the monthly menu already laid out, as well as the whole activities. The dining area was clean and very open. They have certain parts of the outside where they had gardens for the residents. The staff seemed very interactive with the residents, which is important for memory care residents. They seemed to know all of them by name and I enjoyed seeing that.

The staff at Arbor Rose Senior Care was very good, answered all my questions and everything. What stood out to me was the size of the rooms; they were spacious and they had showers adjacent. The food must be good because he's gaining weight. They do have activities like dancing, which my brother enjoys. The surroundings are very pleasant, the work staff is very good from what I've heard. It sounds like they have a very good curriculum on activities and stuff, and keeping people busy. The value for the money is very good.

Arbor Rose would have been a nice place, but the bedroom was very small. I didn't like it. The girl who interviewed us and told me about it was extremely nice and very helpful, but it didn't quite do it for me. For me, the room was inadequate. Well, this just wasn't for me. I got the impression that my needs were far less than lots of people there. I would give it a 5 though because the look was wonderful and because the girl who interviewed us and told us about it was excellent. That's what did it. They had cottages. There were maybe seven or eight people in each cottage. There was a kitchen in each; it was very nice. The building and the way it looked was beautiful. They had many plants, bushes, trees, and flowers. I was very taken with the appearance.

Provider Response

My dad moved into Arbor Rose Senior Care. I think they're doing really well, and they try to accommodate my dad's needs. I feel that they have a good management staff that work with you. They offer a nice, quiet, and home-like environment. They offer stuff to keep them entertained.

Arbor Rose is very nice. There is a separate cottage for the Alzheimer's patients; there's a lot of activities there. They have a big movie room where they watch movies if they want to. The residents all eat together. The room that I saw was very nice. It was all painted beautifully. I would recommend this place. However, when someone decides to take a room, you have to furnish all the furniture. I'm alone, so I didn't know how to get my furniture there.

WHAT A JOY TO FIND! I have recently been on a search for my Aunt. I have been touring multiple communities and weaving through the differences and price structures. What a relief it was to find Arbor Rose! The pricing is all-inclusive so there are no hidden costs for families to worry about. The Cottages and Suites are very well maintained and spacious. The staff have gone out of their way to make this move easy on us. I know I made the right choice for her. Thank you.

Arbor Rose has senior day care. It’s like six homes built around the courtyard, and it's a very nice situation. My mom is there. The accommodation is like a house with a kitchen, living room and a TV room within the home. The staff seemed to be wonderful, happy and long-term so they have very little turnover. They know everyone by name.

I like the way Arbor Rose is set up based on my mom's situation. The staff keeps in touch with me on an ongoing basis as we're trying to work through my mom's meds. If something happens, they're pretty good about giving me a call and a heads up. Mom appears to be very well-kept. The staff dresses her up every day. The facility also appears to be clean and doesn't smell. The residents have music, plays, arts, and field trips as activities. It has been a positive experience.

This facility has five buildings with private and semi-private rooms. They probably have 40-50 residents. They have a cook on duty and an RN twenty-four hours a day. When I was there, the nurse was passing meds to a few of them, and other staff members were helping other residents. They have a hospice nurse, and they have doctors who come in. They have a huge living room area, and they encourage the residents to go in there to watch TV and play games. The grounds are nice and well kept, but not fancy. They have entertainment that comes in, like people coming in to play music, and they have religious services there. Families of the residents will also often come and take them to church. They have a hairdresser who comes once a week to do their hair. The residents seem to be well kept up and happy.

On more than one visit to Arbor Rose I have been able to freely come and go through outside gates that, according to the signs posted on the latch, were to be locked. Inside the lobby there is a rather oppressive gate separating the front desk from the rest of the community. I have not been given a tour during my visits so I am unable to speak about the care or programming but that gate..... It's demeaning. I can only guess why it's there but surely there are better ways to restrict the residents from the front desk or the front door.

Visited this facility

My mother wanted to visit this facility because a friend of hers had shown her a brochure. I don't even like to call it a facility because Arbor Rose is actually country-style homes. My mother and I toured both the private and semi-private rooms. We both liked the private rooms because it felt more like an apartment or ""place of her own"". The staff was very friendly, greeted us and one nurse even stood telling jokes with my mom. My mother is a retired nurse and so they got to talking about that. There is a recreational room which at Arbor Rose is called a Great Room. Tons of seating, big comfortable chairs, a pool table, television, games and books. About 5 residents were occupying the room when we toured but there was still plenty of room for more. I really liked how right away several of the women sitting in the great room said hello to my mom. My mother was happy to see that they even had a salon. The outside was nice too, a lot of full grown trees and flowers. My mother ended up not staying at this particular home but sometimes she'll still say to me: remember that really nice place we saw in Mesa? I always know she's talking about Arbor Rose.
