I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. The facility is beautiful and immaculate. Mom had a one bedroom apartment that was large and had huge windows which made it look very open and inviting. Dining room staff quickly learn the residents preferences for their meals and accommodate them thoughtfully, I was amazed at the caregivers. Everyone was patient and caring. They were responsive to all Mom's needs. The administrative staff was friendly and familiar with all the residents. I saw many activities listed and witnessed many of the celebrations for special occasions. Every holiday is decorated for and celebrated. Guest singers and musicians were there for most holidays. Bingo is played three times a week and residents have access to many other games. A bus is available for outings away from the facility. Trips were offered for dining out, going to movies, (even though movies are available at the facility) I even saw a trip offered to a casino. Every member of the staff makes every effort to meet the residents needs and make them comfortable and happy. Thank you, Caliche for making the last few months of Mom's life safe and pleasant.

I will be moving into Caliche Senior Living. The walkthrough and everything was great, it's local, the price is right, and I received three or four referrals to the place. I saw three staff members and they were excellent. I have a large one-bedroom apartment, and they have a studio and two-bedroom as well. They have a great dining room, a theater, a library, and a workout room. They provide three meals a day.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister has moved into Caliche Senior Living. It's fairly new and well kept up, as far as the rooms and everything are concerned. The memory care unit is called The Gardens. There's also the other regular part of the senior living community. The memory care unit is not big, but it's big enough, and that's what I was concerned with, that she be in a safe, secure, fairly comfortable place. The memory care is built in a circle, so the rooms are around the outside of the perimeter of the circle, and then inside is the dining area and the exercise area, and so on. If the person leaves their room, they're not going to be faced with long hallways and they're not gonna get lost when they go out and take a walk because it's a circle. Eventually, they will just go around the circle and come back to where they were, which I liked. The food seems acceptable. I haven't had a meal there, but my brother and sister-in-law both have and they said the meals are pretty good. I looked at the menu and the menu is varied. There are a lot of different things on it. My sister isn't a picky eater, so it should work out just fine with her because she'll eat everything on there. I talked to the staff on the phone and met them in person. There is a beauty salon there. I talked with the beautician, Joan, there the day that my sister came and I said I wanted her to have manicures, pedicures, and haircuts. She gave me the price list, which is very reasonable. I just established a $100 credit with Joan and I talked to her about what I expected in terms of the frequency of the services. I just told her to send me the receipts on whatever they do for her and when we run short on money, I'll just refresh that account. It works fine for me and Joan seems very nice and very easy to work with. I like Fanny, the sales director. She's the person I dealt with most when I was getting information about the home and getting the paperwork done and she is very nice and very pleasant to deal with and very thorough about what she has to offer. We'll maintain some watchfulness to make sure my sister is getting the kind of care we want her to have, but certainly, initially, I'm very pleased. I haven't seen the staff interact with the residents very much, but they made it a point on the day that I took my sister there to introduce themselves and start her on some activities and kind of steer her away to other residents and other activities so that we had an opportunity to get her room straightened out, make the bed and put the furniture in place. They were very helpful. I was impressed. They seemed friendly, nice, and knowledgeable. I couldn't ask for anything more. As far as the move-in is concerned, I, my brother, and sister-in-law are in our 70s and my brother and I both have mobility issues, so moving a bed and a dresser and that kind of stuff in would've been kind of challenging, but when Fanny found out we were coming, she directed us to the backdoor and there were a couple of maintenance men waiting there for my brother and they unloaded everything for him and brought it up to the room. I consider that indicative of the overall excellence of the facility. Everything seemed very clean. There are activities, trips, games, movies, cards, and some other things that someone like my sister with Alzheimer's would be able to participate in and some things she wouldn't be able to, like a trip, for example. When they take a bus trip, it's visual. They stay on the bus, they drive them around, and they have someone explain what they're seeing and what they're looking at, but they are not allowed to get out off the bus and go anywhere they want for obvious reasons. My sister was involved in putting a puzzle together on the first day she went there. She had met a couple of the other residents and they were working on a puzzle by the time I left.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is living in Caliche. Recently, she celebrated a monumental birthday and the staff were so helpful in setting up and orchestrating her birthday party. They even set up a Zoom call so we could wish her a happy birthday. That was special since we all live in different states and could not be there. When we were looking for a senior living facility, we visited Caliche. It was the first place we looked at and felt the need to look no more. The staff were all so friendly and knew residents by their first name. We met some residents on the way to look at the apartments. They were very happy at Caliche. We were pleased to see that floor plans varied in style giving us an option to pick our favorite. We also toured the facility to see the amenities. They provided a monthly calendar of events and we noticed there were a variety of choices in and out of the facility. We also had the opportunity to have a meal in the dining room. Staff gave us the choice of several items and were willing to adjust the menu for special requests or needs. For us as a family, we feel Caliche was a good choice and the services they provide for my sister are based on her overall needs. We feel she is in a safe place and is well cared for by a caring and dedicated staff.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Caliche Senior Living. She is in memory care now, but she started in the assisted living side. It's a very nice facility, but it's a little expensive. It's Spanish style, it's clean, they've got very friendly people, and they're well-staffed. I've met staff all over the facility. The reception staff was nice, and their manager was very nice and very accommodating. I've met the nursing staff. They have a nice chef. She's a lady chef and she's very good and very friendly to all of the residents. I haven't been able to eat there, but my mom says it's really good. The family can't eat there because of COVID, but they offer lots of activities. They have movies, they bring in music once or twice a month, they have bingo, they have exercise class, arts and crafts, a beauty shop on site, a very nice library, a billiards room, and a woodshop. The rooms were nice, both in the assisted living side and the memory care. They keep them clean. The memory care service is full service. They do their laundry and they clean their room. The staff is very helpful and always willing to assist you. They have activities for everybody to do. My mom seems to be happy there.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother spent the last year of her life at Caliche Assisted Living and the family is very pleased with the care and attention she received. The caregivers and administrators were always friendly and understanding. Mother often said that her only complaint was they weren't giving her anything to complain about and she liked to complain. We are thankful that she was so well cared for and comfortable during her 97th-98th year, and so well protected from Covid-19.

Provider Response

Dear Faseed, Most importantly, I want to offer my condolences to you and your family. She made an incredible impact on our lives and it was an honor to serve your mother. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience. We are honored and delighted to have earned your trust, as our team is dedicated to creating meaningful relationships and an environment for residents to thrive. I will share your review with our team. - Janae Wareing, Executive Director

Caliche Senior Living was a nice place. The people seemed very happy, and the staff was exceptionally nice. I had to wait a few minutes for the director to come, but everyone kept coming and asking would I like something to drink or do I want a magazine. There were lots of smiling people, both staff and residents. The living quarters were very nice and comfortable. Someone goes in and cleans weekly. They've got nice laundry facilities.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Caliche Senior Living is fairly new, so it's really beautiful, and the location is very convenient for me. Everyone there is pretty attentive to my grandmother and they help her out with everything she needs. The food is kind of mediocre. She doesn't like it, but she still eats it because she has to. They provide a lot of activities. We've taken her down to the holiday activities with live music and she enjoys that.

Provider Response

Hi Antwonette, thank you for taking the time to rate Caliche Senior Living four-stars and for writing this review. We are ecstatic to hear that you and your grandmother are enjoying the community so far. We pride ourselves on providing exceptional care to all of our residents. We firmly believe in only hiring those who have a real dedication for taking care of others. We also know that our residents thrive when we provide engaging activities. We are happy to know that the live music we have been offering is highly praised. I am sorry about you and your grandmother's experience with the food. I will send this over to our community and regional leadership team so they can look into it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us either by phone or sending a private message on Facebook. Thank you again, Antwonette, and have a great rest of your day.

The facility itself is beautiful, and there are a few good and caring people here, but it is severely understaffed. My stepfather was placed in memory "care" (I use the term loosely) here and subsequently neglected. His hand became infected, and when I asked them about it I was told the doctor had been called, that he had not called back, and that that was all they could do, followed by a shoulder shrug. Keep in mind that I live across the country and only happened to be in the area at the time. I took him to the doctor myself (who was alarmed at the seriousness of the infection) and got him an antibiotic, or he would have gotten sepsis and died. A few weeks later I came back to find a totally different stepfather. He had gone from someone with memory issues, but who could still have a conversation, to your typical nursing home poster boy, complete with glassy eyes, unshaven face with food on it, unable to even talk. He looked like he was drugged. When I asked what was wrong with him I was told, "What do you mean what's wrong? He's just the same as when he came in!" I then asked if they'd been checking his blood sugar and received this response, "He has diabetes???" When I discussed it with the director, his response was, "At least he's clean and safe!", as though that is enough to keep body and soul together. I went to see my stepfather again two days later, and he pulled me into his bathroom where he indicated he needed water. When I turned on the faucet he immediately thrust his face in it and began rinsing out his mouth. After he did that he could talk to where I could actually understand him, and I realized he was totally parched. I gave him water to drink, then questioned the staff about how much he was getting. I pointed out that his feet were swollen, he had lost a lot of weight, and that I thought his kidneys were failing. They took him to the ER later that day, but of course he passed away shortly after. This is the kind of "care" you can expect if you leave your loved one at Caliche Casa Grande. As long as they can take care of everything by themselves, they'll probably be fine. If they need the least little bit of care, please, for the sake of your family member, look somewhere else.

Provider Response

Hi, I'm Katie, I work at the Milestone Retirement Support Center. First, I am very, very sorry to hear about your stepfather's passing. I've been in close contact with our Executive Leadership team and Caliche's management team regarding your review. Per their report, your family met with Ron, Caliche's Executive Director, and Lisa, Caliche's Director of Health and Wellness to discuss several concerns including your father's skin tear (which he had prior to his residency,) diabetes, and dehydration. Again, per the team's report, they discussed Caliche's hydration & nutritional protocol with your family, along with some of their concerns with your stepfather's doctor, and your family was very understanding. If this report is not correct, or if you would like to speak to a member of our Executive Leadership team directly, PLEASE do not hesitate to reach out. Feel free to send more details or contact information, should you so choose, to Caliche's Facebook page in a private message. Sincerely, Katie - Digital Marketing

I visited this facility

We went to Caliche Senior Living. We ate there and the food was good, but it was not like a fine dining restaurant. The place was new, and their facilities were nice; however, it's more money than what we wanted to pay. I thought the arrangement of the rooms that they showed us was strange with our furniture. For what we were looking for, I think the other place had more to offer. The staff was nice, but we didn't connect with them as well as we did at the other place.

Caliche is brand new and has all of their licenses, but I didn’t care for the way the director was running the place. She didn’t return my phone calls. Their double room facilities were a little bigger and clean, but they didn’t appear to have enough staff and they certainly didn’t have enough residents to warrant being open. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the lady who was running the place; I don’t think she knew what she was doing. They had amenities, and she was very pleased to show them to me, but there was no one there. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my brother-in-law there. The dining area was beautiful and looked like an average hotel. There were soft chairs and round tables, and the whole building was very pleasant to look at, but that was not what I objected to. It is the only senior center here that has memory care that I know of. The rooms were very clean and more spacious than the one my brother-in-law is in now. They were unfurnished, and as his caretaker, I would have to provide him with furniture, beddings, and towels. It costs more. Where he is, I didn’t have to provide any of that. All I had to do was bring him and his clothes for less money.

Provider Response

Julie, I would like to thank you for your input. We value all observations. I am sorry your calls were not returned. That is certainly not the way we do business. I am not certain what woman you are referring to as the director because I, Bob Harwood, am the director. Currently, our Memory Support Community is about half full in only three months. I am concerned that you might be confusing us with another community as our dining room has firm chairs and square tables and not what you described. Different Memory Communities have different philosophies. At Caliche, we feel it is better for our residents to have their own furniture as opposed to some facilities that make all the rooms look the same. We feel that is not the right thing to do to people with memory impairment. We do, however provide linens and towels. I hope this gives you a better feel for us and I welcome you to return for a personal tour from me. Cheers! Bob Harwood, Executive Director
