As a patient in the rehab unit (skilled nursing, memory care) my Dad was treated with the utmost kindness and care. The facility is not new and fancy, but the workers are attentive and helpful. We felt confident that our Dad was in a safe and caring environment. They often went out if their way to meet his needs with compassion.

I visited this facility

We toured Robertsdale Healthcare Center for my mom. It was pretty average, but it was very crowded. They had a lot of stuff in the hall that I think were not probably safe. In general, most of the people seemed to be pretty happy and well cared for. They had a big fat Covid outbreak down there. I guess it really does not surprise me, since people hang out and gaggle. The rooms were big and bright. The staff was very nice and very accommodating. The people in the hall seemed to know them, and they stop to talk to them. It seemed they're very familiar with the people that are in the facility. They were very accommodating with their touring and showed me everything I wanted to see and look at.

Physical therapy is wonderful, but the facility is chronically understaffed. Residents are not monitored well and are too often “parked” around the nurse station when they would prefer to be in their rooms. Food is terrible, and they don’t follow their own dietary guidelines In addition, meals are served in residents rooms whenever staff is short, at least a third of the time. This is unsanitary and those who need assistance don’t get it.

My brother was a recent patient in Robertsdale Rehab. I have major concerns about the quality and critical thinking skills of their nursing staff. My brother had to be taken to Thomas Hospital ER with complaints of nausea, vomiting, acute abdominal pain, and elevated heart rate. He was immediately treated for severe dehydration, alarming low blood pressure & significant electrolyte imbalance. Scan revealed a large abdominal abscess. He was then ambulanced to Doctor's Hospital where he was admitted to ICU. He received constant treatment over the next 36 hours in attempts to get his electrolytes back in balance, rehydrated, & blood products. How does a patient get in such dire straits without some ability from the nursing staff to recognize & respond to some of these medical triggers. Dehydration, abnormal bps, and unstable oxygen levels are pretty basic triggers. Still don't know why a decision was made to downgrade him to a mechanical soft diet.?. Pretty obvious that his medical condition....a growing abdominal abscess....prevented him from being able to eat anything. Too bad we only have very negative feelings about a facility that came so highly recommended!!

Robertsdale is very attractive. It does not look like an institution. They have dementia care unit, rehab, they have ventilated care, and they also have the regular skilled nursing facility. It's very well decorated and cared for. My husband is undergoing rehabilitation right now to help him walk. They're able to manage his mood swings, his anger outbursts which I just couldn't handle anymore. It's a very nice facility. They have music and they bring people in to entertain residents. Those that are in the dementia wing are taken to some of these if someone has to stay with them either family member or one of the staff. They also play games with them, sometimes watch TV. The food is very good food and they have good assistance at meal time. I've eaten in there a few times. I'm just very impressed. Their office staff is amazing. Everyone has gone out of their way to be good to us. All of the rooms have valences, in bright, pretty colors. They have bedspreads, they each have a bedside table, closet, they can bring in snacks too. They monitor him very well. They have 3 different head nurses and they have numerous CNAs.

My mother is in Robertsdale Healthcare. They have nice rooms. The administration and the nurses are excellent. The overall staff is good. We are very pleased with it. They do have something going on, but she is kind of limited with her activities because she is having her physical, occupational, and speech therapies. Overall, from what I look at, this is the best one I feel like is good for mom. It is clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. However, they can improve in making aides more helpful.

My husband spent two days at Robertsdale and then, he went directly to the hospital. They came and evaluated him and before he was admitted to the hospital, he had been very restless and they had somebody stay with him all night. I was very pleased about that and then, they called me in the morning to tell me that he had been transferred to the hospital. The facility was very clean, light and airy. They were very attentive and I would recommend this facility. They gave me all the information that I needed. The experience was very good.

The staff overall is not caring and compassionate. The admin will not listen to the issues the family is having. My relative cannot chew meat, and we have to constantly remind them of this. One meal they continue to provide for dinner is chopped hot dogs. This is definitely a facility that gives a great first impression and then be prepared to fight for the patient.

Robertsdale didn't have a rule that was in place for TVs; someone can turn the TV up and leave it on all night long, which is wrong. Another thing, instead of allowing them to stay in the rooms -- I don't know if it was because they were shorthanded or because they were lazy -- they just took the people, put them in wheelchairs, and then push them up to the main desk, and that is where they stayed unless they went and participated in an activity. It was clean; the rooms were clean, but they just didn't have any type of rules that were in place, and they should have some rules or they should have another wing to put people that didn't have Alzheimer's. My mother was in there for rehab services and it was going to be for a couple of weeks, but it didn't last. It only lasted for one day and I went picked her up. They should go ahead and impose some rules -- or if they don't have enough manpower -- then hire some more nurses, so the people can have quality while they are there and impose some rules that TVs have to be turned off at certain times of the night -- normally it is at 10 o' clock at night or maybe 11 o' clock would be fine -- but TVs have to be turned off at that time, so that everybody could get a good night's sleep.

I visited this facility

Our family needed a facility to help with hospice care for my aging father who had Alzheimer's and this was the best facility in the area for this type of care. He was unable to remember any of the family, and he had become very difficult about things like taking medicine, eating, or bathing. This facility had the most loving and generous staff, who helped provide excellent care and kindness to both my father and the rest of the family. This was an emotional process and they were wonderful. They had come highly recommended and we certainly know why. Even though it was about 30 minutes away from our home, and there were closer facilities available to us, this is the place we chose. The other patients seemed happy and well cared for, with a variety of activities to participate in. The hospice wing was quiet and appropriate for the type of care my father needed. I am grateful for the experience being a positive one even though this was mostly a sad time for our family.
