I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Do not walk but run from this place. My father was here for several months and it was horrible. The only reason he was here is at the time this was the only place in Mobile that had any available beds for rehab. That should tell you something. Administration was beyond uncaring. I live in Birmingham and would come down every other week to see dad. His insurance ran out for rehab and we were in the process of getting him on Medicaid and planned on paying for the first month of care out of pocket. When we told them that I was told I needed to pay by the end of the week (nothing was late and all bills had been paid, we had a $0 balance due). No problem, I will be there Friday. The administrator then proceeded to tell me if I was not there by Friday he would put him in an ambulance and drop him off at my door. I tried to explain to him I was in Birmingham and he said he did not care and has delivered “them” as far away as Texas like this was a badge of honor. Another red flag was dealing with the paperwork to get him switched to Medicaid. I was told he did not qualify because of several things which made no sense to me. I contacted Medicaid and learned yes he did qualify. These were not weird things. They had to do with the sale of his house and a car in his name. Very common things. They had very little knowledge or comprehension of Medicaid. The most horrible and unforgivable thing they did was not inform us when dad was dying. My father died around noon. The nurse that called to inform me that they were unable to wake him when they checked on him that morning. He laid there dying for four plus hours without any notification. I could have been there in that amount of time. He has grandchildren in Mobile who could have been there in 30 minutes. We were denied the opportunity to be there to hold his hand, pray over him and say our good byes. I will never forget that. Please save yourself and your loved ones a lot of heartache and go somewhere else!

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad was in this home for 20 days. The first day they put him in a wheelchair, slumped over , not strapped to the chair at all in a common room. He told them he wanted to go to bed. They told my brother he had to sit there until 5:00, it was lunchtime then. My sister in law went and ask the lady her name , she was going to report her and the lady would not give her name. A few minutes later they came and put him in the bed. They didn’t even have on his chart he was a fall risk. The doctor had taken him off a medication and the evening staff gave him this medicine anyway. My sister told her he wasn’t supposed to get the medicine anymore and she said it was on his chart. The nurse the next morning went and got the medicine and put in in the garbage. He was supposed to be getting physical therapy because he had been sick for over a month and had no strength to stand by himself. I don’t think they gave him pt everyday. The evening before he was released, he was happy, talking , glad to be going home the next day. When they released him. He was asleep. They said he didn’t sleep any the night before. My brother had to put him in the car, he stayed asleep the whole trip hone, slept all day and night. I do not recommend this place at all. Unless your just want a clean facility for your loved one to lay up in bed and be ignored all day.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My Mother had been a patient there for five years. They are horrible. The latest administor Elizabeth her assistant Allison have managed to ruin off the majority of the good workers and kept those who are verbally and physically detrimental to the elderly. They cannot be bothered with ensuring that proper maintenance is conducted, such as cleaning out the air conditioning vents or repairing broken doors. They simply don't care. Most recently I was unable to visit my Mom for over 10 days do to a out of town work assignment. I came back to find my Mother weezing and fighting for a breath. Her oxygen had been turned off at doomed point and she had pneumonia. Course I'd the nurses in charge of get care had stopped to speak to her they would have known immediately. To my knowledge there is only two good nurses left, Carolina and Michael. If you are thinking about placing your family member there, than don't. They may not survive their horrible care.

There has got to be a solution

My only sister was a residence here. She is an triple amputee and somehow fell off the "no rail" bed. Perhaps, the administration should spend more time finding qualified staff. Hire individuals who love his/her job and not be overworked. Your income should not delegate the type of service a patient should receive. It takes a lot to send your love to the care of stranger. Your prayer is that he/she is provided a "home away from home atomosphere"Senator Doug Jones, please help"

My father was there for a couple months. While there he missed 5 doctors appointments. Lynwood sent him to the hospital because his leg was infected. While he was in the hospital the staff "lost" all his belongings. So now my father has to replace all his clothes as well as worry about his health. Do not send anyone you love up there.

I visited this facility

My husband is here, and the care is not good. They don't empty the potty chair for hours and even though they were supposed to change the linens when we were gone to an appointment that took three hours, he had to sit in a wheelchair for almost an hour when we returned and he was tired. The nurses do not come when called (except the male nurse) and when they do, they are lazy and don't attend to his needs. We were not told they had transportation to appointments until an ambulance took him once for $800 and we twice had to force his braced leg into my SMALL car. He was not told he could get three snacks a day from the nurse's station, so we bring in snack items but he can't get them himself so he has to wait for a nurse to get them. This morning he called to say that he asked someone to get him ice for a soda which we provide, but after an hour he still didn't have it. The food is okay, barely, but the other day they left his food in another room and it took over an hour for them to get it to him. I live 125 miles away and have animals to care for daily, so I can't go every day and when I do I can't stay as long as I would like, and the staff just seem to not care at all for their patients. There are very few things someone in a full leg brace with a Pic line can do for himself. He didn't even have a bed that he could adjust for two weeks! He was deemed a fall risk in Providence, but his bed has no rails and is so small that he barely has room to sleep. I would move him if it were my choice, but workman's comp is in charge and this was their decision. I don't know if Lynwood is cheaper than others, but I hope that the others are better than here.

I visited this facility

I wasn’t really fond of Lynwood Nursing Home. The memory care unit was basically a big square with the activity area and the dining room in the middle. They need to update a few things because the place seemed kind of dated.

My mother was in the Lighthouse wing of Lynwood for a little over six months. I am so pleased with the care she received. The caregivers are awesome!!

I visited Lynwood Nursing Home a number of times and did not like it. I did not think they paid enough attention to the people there. The facility looked clean, but it had a smell to it. It was more expensive than where my husband lived.

We placed my sister in Lynwood Nursing, and she has been there for quite a while now. It is convenient for us. They have entertainment, rehab, therapy and provide transportation.

I am a friend or relative of resident

A friend of our family was in Lynwood and when I visited him I was so disappointed to see the conditions he was in. He was on a trach but was conscious. He couldn't speak though. Those nurses were the most rude people I had ever encountered. Every time they had to adjust his trach, or bring him a bed pan, etc. they acted like we were interrupting their life. I don't think I saw a smile on one face; no words of encouragement for the patient. His sheets needed changing, but they ignored that. They wouldn't let any family member stay the night with him, so considering what we saw during the day it put more stress on the family. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

This is the second time that we've used the place. My mother had Alzheimer's, and she was at Lynwood Nursing Home for 2 years before she passed away. The staff was just phenomenal, respectful; they really took care of her. So when my dad was in need of extra care, I moved him over to Lynwood. He's there for rehab, and they work to get him a little more mobile. It's basically like being in a hospital where he's receiving an antibiotic drip. They give him the medical care that he needs. He is getting excellent care. Lynwood is an older place. They could use more room. It's clean, and it's well run. There are 2 beds to a room, and the rooms are very small. I think the staff is fantastic. They're helpful, they take care of my dad, and he doesn't have any complaints with them. His only complaint of the whole place is he wishes the food were a little better.

Lynwood Nursing Home was clean and the therapy part, which I used, was really good. The therapists were excellent. People in the office were very helpful. Some of their nurses were very good, and some were not. I was there for only a couple of weeks.

I visited this facility

When i was in CNA school through SAAD's Healthcare, our class was taken to Lynnwood Retirement Home to do our clinicals. At this facility i learned that many horror stories of these places are true. The staff was cruel and cold to the patients, and very lacking in job skills, standards, guidlines, and practices. Many patients went without water, sat in soiled clothing, had gone days without baths, some had bed sores, just an overall unpleasent experience at this facility. The facility itself was kept rather clean, the floor were waxed and kept up, the walls were clean, no mold or grim in damp areas, and the restrooms were well maintaned. After my training was completed the rest of the school got together and talked and all came to the same conclusion that we never wanted anything to do with such place.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Beginning in November of 2010 and ceasing in June 2011 my grandfather was a patient at Lynwood Nursing Facility. I visited my grandfather atleast once a week. I would've went more often but I live an hour away. Lynwood provided an excellent, although not 5 star, living and care facility for my grandfather. The staff was not only friendly, cooperative, and compassionate, but also quite efficient in their duties. I would have to say that 95 percent of the staff fit the above description, save for one unsavory staff member that just seemed to be in a perpetual bad mood. Despite the bad mood, she did uphold her duties and no reflect her bad attitude in her care of my grandfather and other patients. As for amenities, Lynwood provided a comfortable social area for the patients and encouraged socialization and friendship amongst the patients in the wing I visited. Patients had access to games, safe and interactive cooking workshops, arts and crafts, media based entertainment, as well as a staff that coordinated bi-weekly activities for the patients - including holiday themed activities. After tasting the meals for the patients, i attest that they were quite delicious and healthy. A licensed dietition oversaw the meals for each individual, for example she maintained diabetic friendly foods for my grandfather. The facilities were the most negative aspect. The rooms were two patients per room with simply a curtain for privacy. This curtain led to a lack of completely privacy and inconvenient noise pollution from the other patient. My biggest complaint was that the rooms didn't seem to be mopped/swept as much as the should be. The rooms also shared a single bathroom - for four patients, and this could sometimes lead to privacy issues. I would like to give praise to the staff for their particular care of my grandfather, who suffers from Alzheimer's, as well as Dementia. Many nursing homes are not so lenient with the difficult (confused and demanding) demeanor of such patients. Lynwood flew above and beyond, doing their best the comfort the old man and keep him aware of his surroundings and actions. The staff even kept a positive attitude when dealing when him when he became scared and aggressive, and believe me it's tough to do. The patient mentioned is in his late seventies, but retained his seemingly herculean strength, sometimes hurting the staff who responded with phrases such as "Now Mr._____, you know that hurts. You really shouldn't do that. Next time try to be gentle with us, you know we are your friends." Overall, my grandfather was taken care of very well at this facility, socially and medically. The staffs consistent medicine administration even improved, from what my family could tell, his cognitive function.
