My mother stayed in Shelby Ridge Nursing Home for rehab. It is an older facility. It was always clean. I had only walked down to the nursing home side one time. The physical appearance is just outdated. The lobby area is okay; you can just ignore it after a little while. It just needs a modernized update. They were always really, at first, good. I thought they were efficient. The rooms were big but they had more of a 70s or 80s look instead of the modern look.
I think my mother would probably like the food better there. She had a knee replacement so she was there twice. Then she hurt her back so she was in there for 3 times. We had the supposedly 21 days that the insurance was gonna pay. Nearly 2 weeks in to her stay, she hadn't been up. They haven't really rehabbed her because mother didn't do well with pain medications. She stayed in a fog from the pain medication and because of that, they were not gonna get anything out of her, as far as getting her up, getting her moving. She was just like a dishrag. So I had to kind of raise a little Cain about not giving her pain meds and reducing it to Tylenol when needed and that was like pulling teeth. My brother's a pharmacist so between the both of us, we finally got it okay. And then she was able to do what she needed to do as far as her physical exercises but up until that point, she was whether in bed or sitting in a wheelchair majority of the time. That I had a problem with. Right in the situation we are in now, it's not so much they are not doing her physical rehab and the fact that that my mother's kind of refuse it.

My parents went to Shelby Ridge Nursing Home for their first rehab. The services were great, and they took really good care of them. It's a great facility. The nurses and the doctor were attentive. They got the treatment they needed. When you call them, they respond within 3 minutes, which was pretty good. They both said the food was good. They had a very good rehab program, and they had plenty of activities for their patients to do. They're very helpful, they kept me informed with everything going on, and they called and asked questions if needed. The staff was great. Everything was always clean. I would recommend it.

My Mother recently passed away, after being there sis years. This was the week before Thanksgiving, and have yet to hear a word from them. The administration has yet to call, or leave their condolences. It is sad in this day and time that it is all about the money and not the patient. I will say there were several workers that she dearly loved.

This is an awful place. My dad was transferred there after being at Shelby hospital almost 2 months. He had come along way from icu for 3 weeks to finally a reg. room. He was to go to Shelby ridge to help get his mobility back. He was to be there 21 days. He made it 14 days. We had trouble from the start with the facility. They on several occasions left him in the hall for 3 hrs with him telling them he had to use the restroom ( know one likes pooping on there self), We happened to walk in during one of those times. We confronted the people that was supposed to help him they were very rude & acted like they didn't want to help him at all ( behind the desk laughing & cutting up on there phones). Saturday when I visited no one would help him in his bed. He had be asking for hrs. I went to the front desk & again they were all on their phones laughing & cutting up. When I interrupted, if looks could kill I would have been dead. My sister who was there every morning & evening from the start, told the facility he was swollen & they kept saying he was just gaining wait from eating. This morning 7/1/19 he was rushed to the hospital & put back in icu. There is know way they checked on him during the night. He was found not being able to breath & was loaded down with fluid all over him. That's not the worst, the nurse at the hospital had to take a diaper off of him that had been there so long that he had dried poop on him that she actually had to scrub off. If you love your family DO NOT send them there. When your in the medical field you should care about your patients. Its very clear that the people at this facility is only there for a pay check not there patients.

I visited this facility
I recently visited this nursing home as my grandfather was put in the Rehab section. Let me also share that I was a CNA at a long term/Rehab facility for 2 years and also did in home care. With that being said, I know how a nursing home is suppose to look and what is suppose to go on in one. This facility is awful! I wouldn't admit a cockroach. Upon arrival, I noticed around 5 or 6 call lights going off as well as an emergency light. After an hour I walked to the nurses station to get a nurse to come in and look at my grandfather. The same lights were going off plus about 4 more. The same emergency light was going off as well. As I approached the desk, I noticed 2 nurses and about 4 CNAs sitting at the desk. They were joking, laughing, eating, playing on their phones and just having a jolly ole time. All while call lights were going off. We finally got a nurse down to see about my grandfather. His blood sugar was sky high and had been since that morning. She stated that she needed to call his doctor to see what amount of insulin she needed to give him. An hour passed and she still hadn't even attempted to call the doctor. We finally ended up taking my grandfather to a hospital because they refused to take care of him and get him the medicine that he needed. We explained to my grandfathers nurse why we were leaving and she then proceeded to raise her voice and speak very ugly to my family and I. I wouldn't recommend admitting any family member here. It seems as though the nurses and CNA's don't care at all about the residents.

Shelby Ridge is very out dated its oxygen machine is very noisy and you move it around on wheels. The beds are from the 1970 with metal rails. I wouldn't recommend this place.

I think the service at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home is good. I guess the food is okay. He's eating most of it. I don't think they keep the building in great repair. I noticed that there were a lot of painting that needed to be done, and the walls are kind of beat up in his room. I am kind of disappointed with the way things look when I was there. The staff was very nice.
